Very dated. They've had their moment and now look all 2017. Especially with the crisp white render killing all the house's character.

Our original windows were painted dark brown and, at one point, dark green, as it's yellow brick. Long gone, sadly, replaced with dirt-cheap 1980s upvc. New windows, rosewood brown. Timeless and close to the originals.

TalkingOutYerArse · 21/07/2021 23:12

Looks stunning on the old houses round here. Much better than the white.

brokenbiscuitsx · 21/07/2021 23:15

It don’t be long before grey windows are as dated as brown PVC with the fake leading.

JackGrealishIsMyNewManCrush · 21/07/2021 23:16

Never seen any grey windows tbh. But EWWWW. no!

BackforGood · 21/07/2021 23:27

I've not seen any grey, but can only imagine them looking like a primer waiting for the top coat.

Sacredspace · 21/07/2021 23:28

If it is that or white, I would say grey. If you are talking upvc, the white is so stark and well, plastic looking! Whatever colour you go for you can always get them sprayed if they start to look dated. What colour style is your house?

TheBullfinch · 21/07/2021 23:31

No. Very faddy. Almost institutional/correctional facility vibes.

As others have said, like the fake oak ones from 15 years ago, they'll look old very quickly. Stick to white and maybe paint your render a slightly different colour.

My neighbours have grey window frames plus matching dark grey fencing. It looks like a barracks or holding facility.

EastWestWhosBest · 21/07/2021 23:32

I love that some people are saying they are super common and some people are saying they’ve never seen them.

MrsFlinch · 21/07/2021 23:41

Some of the new builds on the outskirts of town have grey. Theres one estate that has a mix of grey, green and a sand colour. The grey looks a bit odd on the style of the houses there, sort of country cottage.

And the other estate has a more contemporary style so the grey does look really nice.
I do think it totally depends on the style of house. As to whether they’d date or not.

They’d look totally crap on my house so am happy to stick to white!

MySecretHistory · 21/07/2021 23:46

Already dated. Says 2015.

Lincslady53 · 21/07/2021 23:46

We live in a Tudor house, built in 1999, with light oak windows. All the tudory wooden bits on the house are also light oak. The brickwork has bits if herringbone pattern, so I don't think we have any option but to stick to light oak. Some of other house built at the same time but not in the mock tudor style, have white windows, so far one has changed to grey. The windows are all nearly ready to be changed, so it will be interesting to see if any one in a similar style house to ours go the grey route. I actually think the light oak suit our style of house, and brick colour, very well.

Is everyone talking about the dark grey frames? I think they can look fantastic on the right house.

I'm about to get some new windows and have been playing this out in my mind for three years...I think white is almost dated now too. If I'm going to spend thousands, I want to be able to tell they've been done Blush as shallow as that is.

I'm almost sold on the agate grey which is a pale green-grey. It's a rural sandy coloured brick house. Fugly to be honest and hoping to pretty it up.

Now this thread is making me doubt my decision...

LST · 22/07/2021 08:00

I have a lightish brown outside and they're white on the inside then the extension at the back has the bluey gray bifold doors on it. I quite like windows different to white.

jj5175 · 22/07/2021 08:14

I think I prefer black, especially against white or cream rendering.

Grey windows give me the ice, they will look so dated as well. The I think greys well on its way out already.

ineedanewnameplease · 22/07/2021 08:16

I like the grey but as with the brown frames 20 years ago they were all the rage but look very dated and old now. Personally I'd go for white frames as they never date.

PandasCatsWolves · 22/07/2021 08:17

Passing fad, and already dating.

Houses around me who've done it it, look a bit odd. The try hards I call them.

A whole new development with grey or black frames might be different ? Dunno I'm not keen

I love black too, looks great against red brick as well for an industrial sort of look.

We're not allowed white on our street. Just outside conservation area. Stone houses built originally with dark brown window frames. Most people (including us!) have replaced with either black or grey. The grey looks nicer - but it's not a fashionable looking road so I think it will be fine here for another 10-20 years.

PandasCatsWolves · 22/07/2021 08:22

@brokenbiscuitsx those look great.

Very different to run of the mill semis randomLy having grey windows!

PaperMonster · 22/07/2021 08:48

I’ve seen very few houses that look good with the anthracite doors/windows. We’ve a neighbour who’s gone for the anthracite door but the windows are mahogany coloured and it just looks bizarre! But I saw an old house, with white windows and a painted feather-grey door and that looked so lovely.

I think they’d look so much better with a traditional painted wooden sash window!

Rollergirl1980 · 22/07/2021 18:40

I like them. I don't think they'll necessarily date. It's not like most people are going to replace them quickly due to fashion.
I live in a plain 50's semi. Grey windows would only be an improvement.
I looked at my street off the back of this thread and the majority of houses are light coloured with white uPVC windows. It looks so dull. Some houses (especially plain ones) need something to make them stand out.
Our last house was a period property. I would have stuck to traditional frames there.
I don't like it when something popular is rubbished when the masses start doing it.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 22/07/2021 18:51

I’ve seen some grey frames that look great and some that look naff. I think because grey is in style for everything, you’re always going to get some naff looking ones. We replaced our dark wood ones with a sage green. They might date, like the old windows did but I do think they suit our style of house (rural, old, brick cottage that has painted cream). I prefer colour frames to white if the frames match the style of the house, rather than being out in because they’re a popular colour.

TerritorialPissings · 22/07/2021 19:00

I don’t like anthracite grey personally; it’s too modern for my taste, but I do love agate grey on a cottage-style house (with astragal bars in any design).

You can always have them sprayed in the future (any RAL colour)…lots of companies offer this now.

Plump82 · 22/07/2021 19:05

I was just about to say the same. My area are all Georgian houses and a couple have grey windows and they look stunning. We don't need new ones but I really wish we did!
