To think my cat is an ungrateful little furry thing

It being so hot I have been changing her water more often today - lovely fresh water on the hour every hour... is she drinking it ... hell no... she'd rather drink the washing up water Confused

Her lovely cosy bed rejected in favour of a cardboard box

Dinner refused and jumps on chopping board to steal chiken when my back's turned for half a second

And I bought her a lovely expensive grooming glove to try to relieve her of some of that horrid moulting fur.. she runs away as soon as she sees it... we've now discovered that what she actually wants is for us to use the lint roller... we tried as an experiment and she just lies there purring occasionally rolling over so we can do her tummy. Well if I'd known that I'd never have wasted my money

YANBU The cat is being utterly ungrateful and catty and does not deserve the effort
YABU I should learn to anticipate my cats needs and accept that the furry one is always right

Mine will only drink from the stone fountain. But only when it's off.
I've removed his etched glass bowl that he used to insist upon.

But he's not spoiled at all really Grin

Supervising my work and enjoying a cold flannel
He wouldn't eat as I forgot to put salmon oil on his food and threw himself on the floor in disgust
He's fucked off to the sheltered housing where they have "tasty meat and treats" Grin

My 3 cats, who all came from a friend’s cat, two females and one male. Best friends with each other, and follow me around whenever I’m downstairs. Not always for food either, my boy likes to watch everything I do!! 🤣

I'm not an advocate for designer pets. There are plenty of mixed breeds that need rehoming and in the past we have had two rescue dogs. However.... I love cats, but I'm very allergic to them. Have discovered the Siberian breed which is hypoallergenic due to low levels of some feline specific protein. Had a face to fur test today and.... nada! No snot! But of course they are pedigree cats, so they don't come cheap. AIBU to be considering paying £1400 for a posh cat??

ThatDamnedDog · 21/07/2021 10:19

Praguemum I don’t think that you abu in this instance because of allergies you couldn’t have a rescue this time. Come and embrace the dark side with your cat overlord GrinGrin

Intercity225 · 21/07/2021 10:20

I am sorry OP, but the words cat and ungrateful don't belong in the same sentence! You have the supreme honour of being chosen to tend to the cat's every want, and that should be enough for you!

The Ancient One has been in the same position on the sofa since I went to bed last night. She is beginning to look a little - rumpled - but is again, still breathing.

The Very Special One decided that, as we removed the pillar fan from its rightful place in front of them to put it at the foot of the bed and there was a fresh, very expensive white basesheet on the mattress, the quilt still draped over the bannister, that the only reasonable action he could take was to stretch himself out in the position of Man of the House. as obviously the actual Human Man of the House had not come to bed yet and there was an unfilled vacancy that enabled him to maximise exposure to the cool night air.

Actual Human Man of the House was not best pleased, but accepted his position and apparently went to sleep at the end of the bed until VSO realised this then blocked the airflow and promptly decided to continue his repose by my feet whilst kindly giving the human's bald unprotected scalp a free acupuncture massage.

Actual Human Man of the House is still in bed as a result.

In this heat, standing instructions to keep the DCats' water bowls filled, and occasionally cooled with an ice cube.

Yesterday evening: DCat2 drinks extensively from the ice cream tub soaking in the sink.

Morning update: it got a bit nippy at 4am with no bed linen, so grabbed the wool duvet off the bannister, much to the delight of the Human Male who only decided to admit he was feeling a little chilly once the duvet had reappeared (wool duvet is brilliant for all but the hottest weather). Overlords were nowhere to be seen. The fan continued running.

By 5.47am, the Overlords had investigated and realised there was additional padding on the bed. I therefore woke up nursing a headache and sweating profusely despite the still cool temperature with two utter bastards warm furry things occupying the 2 foot exclusion zone between the humans, simultaneously enjoying the cushioning, the security and the majority of the cool air being blown over us.

I was up by 5.51am.

The Very Special One has just wandered back in from the garden to howl most piteously whilst glaring at the spot where the fan should be and thrown himself to the floor in despair.

And The Ancient One is considering a nap on the sodding windowsill that gets full sun. Yes, the blinds are shut, but it's still the side of the house that stores all the solar energy from full sun from first sparrow fart to about 4pm.

My two have been driving me nuts today!!!

They are like squabbling siblings but actually mother and daughter.

I've tried telling them to stay in separate rooms but of course they don't listen to me. Youd think they were cats or something Wink

I love this thread.

Sorry, OP, YABU. Humans do what cats order us to do. It's the natural order of the universe.

chickensouporwine · 22/07/2021 13:10

My Siamese died a few years ago but I have not forgotten the middle of the night yeowing. She was louder than a baby.

tallduckandhandsome · 22/07/2021 13:16

@listsandbudgets

Here she is.. ungrateful little furry thing Smile
She looks way too innocent to do any of that. You have maligned her unfairly.
MarshmallowSwede · 22/07/2021 13:55

YABU

You are her butler. As my cat once told me. “Learn your place human”.

You probably should learn meowish so there won’t be any miscommunication in the future. Cats are pretty transparent and always tell their human butlers what they expect.

Also, as a fellow human cat butler may I suggest putting ice cubes in her water as well.

It’s only a matter of time before cats develop
thumbs and take over the world. You want to be on their good side.

Frenchlady14 · 22/07/2021 14:47

Mine is a Russian Blue Princess - being very patient with warm furry kitten - especially in this heat. She's not talking to me though because I bought the wrong kind of fish and she's gone off all her other food. Would live on Philadelphia cheese if I let her.

Frenchlady14 · 22/07/2021 14:52

Should have given more detail than that ..

Would live off Philadelphia Cream Cheese - cold from the fridge on a teaspoon held at exactly the right height.

She is Russian Royalty - I am not worthy

My cat has become quite the fucking knob of late. I too have a minion of the anti-Christ who snubs fresh water in favour of literally any other source of water. She has also developed a love of jumping out the kitchen window and coming straight back round to the front door to scratch the living shit out of it until I let her in. Up until a few weeks ago she would just jump back through the kitchen window again. But alas, no more. Now she merely miaows "Jump?!" And tis I who replies "How fucking high?"

CSIblonde · 22/07/2021 18:04

Your cat is indeed being catty ! If it makes you feel better my cat has started to ignore her water bowl & sits in the bath next to the plughole crying & looking really sad, 'til I run the tap. It's prob colder than what's in her bowl in this weather so I'm ok with it. The lint roller is genius! Will try it because she also hates her cute pink brush.

GrolliffetheDragon · 26/07/2021 08:49

My last few cats have been quite appreciative of new beds and so on. None of them like fresh tap water though, unless it's a. filtered or b. they're drinking it straight from the tap. There is going to be grumpiness when I get the dripping tap fixed.

Youngest is terrified of the fans, but has clearly been feeling the heat, as he flops down on random place on the floor and every five minutes moves to a different place, with occasional glares in my direction as I'm not making the world cooler for him. He gets away with a lot because when he misbehaves he does the Puss in Boots big eyes thing at me.

Themadcatparade · 26/07/2021 08:52

Cat is cat Grin

newnortherner111 · 26/07/2021 09:28

Rule number 1- a cat is always right
Rule number 2- if in doubt refer to rule number 1.

Intercity225 · 27/07/2021 11:06

Despite the fact, they are my cats and DH only agreed I could have them, if I did all the looking after; he got up at around 6.30 am to let SisterCat in, as she is generally terrified of the big Out Doors, but refused to come in last night.

Apparently, she was vociferous in her opinions, on him not getting up to let her in at 1 am, when she had had enough of the big Out Doors! As he said, she is very good at expressing her wants and complaints!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 27/07/2021 11:34

You'd have been disappointed if it was anything but YABU wouldn't you OP?
