To think my cat is an ungrateful little furry thing

It being so hot I have been changing her water more often today - lovely fresh water on the hour every hour... is she drinking it ... hell no... she'd rather drink the washing up water Confused

Her lovely cosy bed rejected in favour of a cardboard box

Dinner refused and jumps on chopping board to steal chiken when my back's turned for half a second

And I bought her a lovely expensive grooming glove to try to relieve her of some of that horrid moulting fur.. she runs away as soon as she sees it... we've now discovered that what she actually wants is for us to use the lint roller... we tried as an experiment and she just lies there purring occasionally rolling over so we can do her tummy. Well if I'd known that I'd never have wasted my money

YANBU The cat is being utterly ungrateful and catty and does not deserve the effort
YABU I should learn to anticipate my cats needs and accept that the furry one is always right

Can’t believe you’re even asking this to be honest.

She rulez the roost - don’t you know your place?!

Sonata13 · 20/07/2021 21:49

These replies are priceless!

cricketmum84 · 20/07/2021 21:53

Erm... is this your first cat?? 😂😂

TiredButDancing · 20/07/2021 22:12

@Livebythecoast

Don't be fooled by my ragdolls cute 'rub my tummy' look. The minute my hand goes near her belly she clamps onto it scratching and biting. Grin
I love this. We had one who did this a LOT. He was notorious for clamping on so that when you lifted your arm he was then just riding along attached with front and back paws! Grin

OP - YABU. Cats obviously should be able to drink whatever lovely water they want, even if it is rancid and will make them vomit. [looks sternly at DCat who just loves a little water from the bloody pot plants].

TiredButDancing · 20/07/2021 22:17

he will contort himself into all the shapes to maximise chances of a behind-the-ear-rub....

YABU OP. Don’t you realise how lucky you are to have a cat grace you with it’s presence. I think you need to try harder to please her furry highness.

My cats having a stand off because one has decided that the hallway is his place to sprawl out to cool down

Ooh I’ll try a lint roller! And my lounge is full of cardboard boxes as they refuse beds made for the purpose.

Water tip: Try keeping the water bowl away from their food bowl if you can. They don’t drink from water sources near food as in the wild water near food might be tainted for them. I moved it and now they drink from it all the time.

Intercity225 · 20/07/2021 23:10

Water tips:

a) put a glass of water on your bedside cabinet, as if you might get thirsty in the night and need a drink

b) put a glass of water on the table at breakfast, as if you were going to take some medicine

c) every time you go in the bathroom, let the cold water tap run slowly for several minutes

All guaranteed to get DCats to have a drink in our house!

Sleep tips:

a) buy a king size bed for DCat 1

b) buy a double bed for DCat 2

c) buy a couple of cat beds for door stops

I cant remember who wrote this story or what it was called but here is a knock about version:-

The great Galactic Council of a thousand worlds is meeting. One elder expresses concern at the emergence of an aggressive young species called “humans” who inhabit a small obscure planet on the edge of the galaxy. They are worried that this warlike species will disturb the Galactic consortium once they emerge into space. The elder proposes that the Earth be destroyed forthwith.

While the council are debating a young member argues that it is some time since anyone did fieldwork among the humans. He offers to journey to the Earth together with his scientific staff to do some research as to whether the species does indeed merit destruction. The elders debate. They agree to the journey, and assure the young alien that if he can find any valid reason why the humans should be allowed to continue to exist, they will consider the arguments.

The alien, together with all his aides and scientists, journeys to earth. The first creature they meet is a cat, which they uplift to their mother ship. They perform many deep level scientific tests (painlessly) on the cat. Having done so they return the creature to its own time frame with no knowledge of what has happened. The cat goes about its business and the aliens return.

The alien reports to the council. Cats are perfect killing machines. They kill ruthlessly and without mercy. They sometimes toy with their prey for hours before killing it and then presenting it to a human. They do not kill for food as they seldom eat the prey. Cats are utterly selfish and self centered. Nevertheless the humans not only tolerate these creatures. They take them into their homes, feed, protect and love them.

The alien argues that any species which will not only tolerate but actually love such a selfish and self centered creature as a cat exhibits a degree of compassion and selflessness which is a redeeming feature. Therefore they should be given another chance.

So its is because of the cat that the human race continues to exist.

My dcats matching socks!!
Lovely matching socks! Hard to find these days. Wink

@memberofthewedding, I was sure the Members of the Galactic council, Masters of The Universe sent to judge the human race in your story would be the natural overlords of all creation, members of the great cat race. I bet I am not the only one. I am not still up at this time waiting for the Great Ginger Fur Lord to come in from his nightly peregrinations, no definitely not. And he is still wearing his full length fur coat in this heat.

Sparklfairy · 21/07/2021 04:28

Mine thinks the tunnel is providing shade in the hot weather. Rather than lie on the bathroom or kitchen tiles which would be cooler!

BarbaraofSeville · 21/07/2021 05:04

I've got one who's pointedly laying next to the cooling mat I bought her, huffing and sighing about how hot she is. Haven't got a picture yet as she gets up for a headscratch every time I go near her.

Here's some of the others plotting revenge of some kind.

My feral cat stores his ‘finds’ in his box. Luckily he is also a super hunter of roaches, but no photos of those !

BarbaraofSeville · 21/07/2021 05:42

At least that's only bits of rubbish. We're on at least one dead thing a day here.

They leave them next to the kitchen bin. I wonder if that's them being helpful or doing a bit of a 'fuck you servant' in the vein of a useless partner.

SnoogyWoo · 21/07/2021 05:46

Haha. Look up Charlie Tuna Bristol Cat on Facebook.

Selttan · 21/07/2021 06:04

@listsandbudgets

She's a cat of great decorum I can't bring myself to be rude about her :)
I made up a swear word for my cats cause I felt bad swearing at my cute fluffy tyrants
Toddlerteaplease · 21/07/2021 06:34

My pair have no idea how to be cats. One of them actually does what's she's told!

Mine has taken to shouting at me to turn the AC off overnight. No chance, not with a fuzzy hotwater bottle sleeping on me.
