My NI number starts with my initials. So I assumed everyone’s did. Just found out it’s a weird coincidence.
What random thing have you recently discovered too?!

OP posts:
cafenoirbiscuit · 19/07/2021 21:43

My bank account no has my entire date of birth in it - dd mm yyyy
V strange!

Awalkintime · 19/07/2021 21:49

Then last 6 digits of my mum's mobile phone was our phone number minus the area code as a child

OldTinHat · 19/07/2021 21:51

Mine doesn't either!

AlCalavicci · 19/07/2021 21:59

Not me but DB
A couple of years ago I have him.my cashline card to get me some money out for me, he asked what the pin was I said it's the same as the last four digits our old land line number.
He said oooh that's a odd coincidence, I said no I reset the number the bank assigned to the card to a number that I could remember more easily.
He was dumbfounded didn't know that it was possible to change your own pin Grin

ThinWomansBrain · 19/07/2021 22:02

For years I had an NI number that started WC - when HMRC started going digital about fifteen years ago, they told me it wasn't a valid number, despite years of correspondence from them quoting that number.
Turned out it was WL - traced it back to somebody's rubbish handwriting on a P45 when I was 17.
Managed to get all the records transferred over.

I'd always thought the "WC" was unfortunate (but easy to remember)

TheNeverEndingOver · 19/07/2021 22:04

Poor OP, no wonder she hasn’t come back.

When I was a kid, if we left the school ground to walk, they’d make the oldest walk on the outside next to road. So a seven year old born in September next to the road, with the seven year old born in April the following year, on the inside. At the time I honestly thought the teachers cared less if we died as we were older and had ‘lived longer’ It wasn't until
I remembered this years later, that I realised how funny that was

Hidehi4 · 19/07/2021 22:05

I have just found out that the percentage on weather apps is the amount of area that will have rain, not the percentage of chance of rain 🙈

6 pages on NI numbers. What a way to celebrate FREEDOM DAY 🎉🎉🎉

SallyOMalley · 19/07/2021 22:09

I found out today that a '?!' to express surprise or disbelief is called an interrobang.

What a wonderful word. I implore everyone to try and fit it into at least one conversation over the next week.

highheeledhattie · 19/07/2021 22:10

I also thought the knights were swathed in yards (have thought it for a long time) of shiny, billowing cloth. Darn!

OhEff · 19/07/2021 22:10

Mine is my initials, date and month of my birth then other significant dates and ends with mother's initial. I knew it was only coincidence, but makes it very easy to remember.

Cartooner · 19/07/2021 22:13

That the numbers on the toaster relate to minutes.

BikeRunSki · 19/07/2021 22:13

Strange coincidence, have tut ever tried to decipher your driving licence number (assuming you have one)?

Horizons83 · 19/07/2021 22:13

Weirdly I only found out about the mass issuance of NI numbers in the early 90s, meaning that my brother and I have a very close one, about 3 days ago.

Anyway... I am in my 40s too and until about a year ago I thought that this symbol meant dishwasher proof. Wonder how many things I ruined?

We already covered that above Grin
Sacredspace · 19/07/2021 22:17

Met someone recently who’s become a good friend. The first five digits of their mobile number is identical to mine. Their first six characters of their postcode is also identical to mine and the seventh is the next letter in the alphabet. Even though they are not on the next street over and live a fair distance away. The first letter of my national insurance number is the same letter as my first name too.

plodalong12 · 19/07/2021 22:18

Re: National Insurance numbers.

In 1993, for that year only, all children under 16 in England (not sure about the UK as a whole) whose parent(s) or guardian(s) were in receipt of child benefit for them were all allocated sequential NI numbers, so two siblings would get AB123456A and AB123456B, oldest getting the first one.

If you weren’t born before 1993 it won’t apply. If you were over 16 by 1993 it won’t apply. If your parents or guardians didn’t apply for child benefit for children under 16 in 1993 it won’t apply.

For everyone that meets this criteria, it does.

12FreeRangeEggs · 19/07/2021 22:18

My DM was a Bond girl extra. The last three digits on one of her bank cards is 007. It is entirely coincidental however my mother never fails to mention it every time she rings the bank or orders something over the phone and has to give our her details.

I’m actually slightly concerned how she will cope when the bank issues her a new card, which is inevitable.

Drivingmeupthewall · 19/07/2021 22:19

@MargeGoesBowling

Why is nobody reading what the OP actually said?
😂
FilthyforFirth · 19/07/2021 22:22

Haha I assumed your NI number started with initials of your first job as mine starts JS and I worked at Sainsburys at 16...!

HopingForABetterYear · 19/07/2021 22:22

@JungleBeats

Can people not read ?

OP I found out via Tick Tock of all things that you shove the plastic parts of a toilet block toilet cleaner up inside the rim and not over the top of it.

No way! I did not know this! Better sort toilets out tomorrow
FlamingoQueen · 19/07/2021 22:23

My NI number is my initials too. It wasn’t until my husband said his number that I realised it was a coincidence!

What does that symbol mean @Horizons83 ?
