My NI number starts with my initials. So I assumed everyone’s did. Just found out it’s a weird coincidence.
What random thing have you recently discovered too?!

I was told as a kid the letter at the end groups you by the government in the event of things like war drafting or if you get chosen for the end of the world apocalypse bunker etc. Grin

BelleClapper · 20/07/2021 10:17

I’ve just checked with my siblings and we have consecutive NINOs. I never knew this!

Batsy · 20/07/2021 10:23

@Babysharkdoodoodood

My NI number is only numbers apart from a letter at the end?
you NI number should be a variation of AB 12 34 56 C if its not, you've either got it wrong, or aren't in the UK.
@starfishmummy your driving licence will be www.drivercheck.co.uk/photocard-driving-licence-explained/
It does include your date of birth.
I dont have a photo licence, but a still legal, old fashioned paper licence.

And yes it does have date of birth on it, but additionally certain digits of the licence number correspond to year and month of birth. Except mine doesn't, although it shows my dob correctly.
There used to be a thing going round that the person's age could be worked out as some of the numbers in the driving licence number are their year of birth. But mine is off as well.

Are you sure?

My UK licence number definitely includes the day/month/year of my birth, with the extra 5 for being female:

Driving licence number format explained.

JONES – Displaying first five letters of your surname. If surname is less than five characters in length, the remaining spaces will comprise of the digit 9.

849339 – First and last numbers are the year of birth. Second and third numbers are month of birth. (Note: in the case of female driving licence holders, ‘5’ is added to the second digit, this means that the second digit will be 5 or 6). The fourth and fifth digits are the day of the month of your birth.

TS – The first two initials of your forenames. If you have only one initial then the second character will be a ‘9’.

8AD – Computer check digits.

** – Licence numbers

Yes. But it has my date if birth correctly displayed as well. And I am assured it is correct.

Herecomesspring1 · 20/07/2021 11:14

So does mine! And until 30 seconds ago, I also thought everyone else's did! So, thanks Smile

Ekofisk · 20/07/2021 11:56

I dont have a photo licence, but a still legal, old fashioned paper licence.

My old paper licence (from 2001 so post introduction of photocards) has the same licence number as my photo card. The only difference is the issue number.

I think Northern Ireland uses random numbers rather than the GB date system though?

MegaCityOne · 20/07/2021 13:31

Ooh thanks!

MegaCityOne · 20/07/2021 13:32

That thanks was for @plodalong12

MrsBobDylan · 20/07/2021 18:23

Mine contains my bra size Grin

OhRene · 20/07/2021 18:27

I would have like my initial on it. My husband and I do share the first handful of digits. Not really that coincidental in the grand scheme though.

MaybeMaybeNotJ · 20/07/2021 18:33

Mine does too (or did until I got married) so I thought the same for ages.

DappledThings · 20/07/2021 20:49

@EndoplasmicReticulum

When I was younger I thought the PO at the beginning of my postcode stood for POstcode.

Nope, PO is Portsmouth. I didn't live in Portsmouth though, otherwise you'd think I'd have twigged.

I had a Northern Irish friend confused that my London postcode started SE and not BT. She thought BT was for Britain so everyone started the same.
