I get my cards and customise them on www.moonpig.com

TellusMater · 26/11/2007 10:35

"Season's Greetings" is quite traditional tough isn't it? Not a new thing.

MrsTittleMouse · 26/11/2007 10:40

My GPIL always had a thing about this. My Oxfam ones say "Happy Christmas" on them - I didn't have any problem finding nice ones with a Christmas-type message.

BritTex · 26/11/2007 10:55

I agree, it is Christmas and the tradition of sending Christmas cards has not been outlawed, (yet), so they should say Merry Christmas. All this PC stuff ticks me off!

TellusMater · 26/11/2007 10:59

They should say 'Merry CHristmas'?!

They should say whatever the sender wants to say.

You can buy plenty of cards with 'Merry Christmas' in them if that's what you want to say.

SoupDragon · 26/11/2007 11:00

Oh, the one that p-es me off the most is "happy holidays"

Grrrr

dizietsma · 26/11/2007 13:03

YABU.

Not everyone celebrates the Christian festival of Christmas, but do celebrate other winter festivals or are simply non-religious. This is no reason to exclude them from the friendly winter custom of card sending. It is a nice way to keep in touch with people no matter what your beliefs.

Personally, I think it's much less arrogant to send a "Seasons Greetings" card than a "Merry Christmas" card to someone who may not be Christian.

ruddynorah · 26/11/2007 13:07

there are loads that say merry/happy christmas. where have you looked?

Buda · 26/11/2007 13:08

I always took it that "Seasons Greetings" was to cover New Year as well.

SoupDragon · 26/11/2007 13:10

"the friendly winter custom of card sending"

Yes, the friendly Christmas custom of sending Christmas cards!

The Hindu (I think!) boy in DS1's class sends the class a Diwali card. It say "happy diwali" or something similar, not "Warmest Autumn wishes".

VictorianSqualor · 26/11/2007 13:12

I hardly send any xmas cards, Got some that DD made at school for the VIP's in our life. Everyone else can have whatever, I'm not really too fussed personally.
But I can see your point.

Blu · 26/11/2007 13:19

'season's greetings' has been around since my pre-historic childhood - and goodness knows where you are shopping to be able to work yourself into this lather of 'it's PC Gorn mad', but I have bought 6 or 7 packs of cards because I liked the look of them (unusual) or because they were cheap, and they all say happy christmas or similiar.

snowleopard · 26/11/2007 13:20

Loads of them say Happy Christmas, i really don't think you'll have a problem finding any. And I agree so they should. If you want to send someone a card because it's Christmas, it is not offensive for it to say happy Christmas, whoever they are and whatever their faith. There can hardly be many people who are so religiously extreme they actually would be offended anyway, and if they are they can burn the card. I mean, I'm an atheist and I don't give an arse.

Or why not make your own that say "Happy Christmas, Infidel"?

Blu · 26/11/2007 13:22

'Happy Christmas, yours, Enemy of reason'?

AnAngelWithin · 26/11/2007 13:22

do what i did and make your own!!

snowleopard · 26/11/2007 13:25

While mine will say

Happy Winter Feast (or "Christmas", if you're solstice-robbing johnny-come-lately enemy of reason)

lemonaid · 26/11/2007 13:28

There are ooodles and ooodles of cards that wish Happy or Merry Christmas. Have you really been looking very hard?

Personally I quite like to send people greetings pertaining to an entire season rather than one day ( but to a point true -- I like the idea of the New Year and all that represents as well as Christmas), so I slightly prefer "Season's Greetings" as a text, but I don't get stressed if a card happens to say "Merry Christmas".

LieselVentouse · 27/11/2007 09:24

i have bought my cards and they all say happy christmas or noel or whatever. what i was talking about was people who send cards saying "winter wishes" and pants like that

SoupDragon · 27/11/2007 12:51

Oh, if you're whinging about other people's cards then you are being unreasonable. Count yourself lucky you have friends

LieselVentouse · 27/11/2007 14:39

Of course you could try looking for a pack of cards with a (nice) picture of the nativity on. One that you wuld like to display on the mantelpiece. Harder than you think, and I'm not even all that christian.

EmsMum · 27/11/2007 14:54

I got some PDSA ones because DD liked the cute puppies. The message is 'Wishing you peace at Christmas'. Thats fine by me - I'm an atheist but its a good time to wish people peace, especially when you consider the woes of the unfortunate 'Holy' land.

Quite a few of these have a 'christmas' message.

Theres even one which has a greeting in Welsh. Guess what the picture is...

...a flock of sheep

TellusMater · 27/11/2007 14:55

Oxfam for nativity cards. Got some in there today.
