To not want to go to London?

Day trip booked for London for a special occasion this week. I don't want to go with cases rising. Husband and I are double jabbed but I'm still really concerned. Friends say it's fine and we should all go and stop panicking. AIBU to feel so anxious?

I’m not sure honestly! The stations and trains were packed but my husband said it wasn’t as busy on the street. What I did notice was how few people were wearing masks indoors. It seemed that freedom day might have been taken very seriously and a vast majority had given up.

@GrandDuchessRomanov

DH and I will be taking our 4 Dnephew next week for an over night stay, his first time in London. He is 14 and couldn't be more excited.

Having had his DB suddenly drop dead at the same age, we as a family firmly believe that life is for the living.

I reckon the odds of getting hit by a big red bus are higher than contracting and dying of covid.

Yeah, because 150,000 people have been hit by red buses in the last 18 months haven't they. Halfwit.

We just got back from London this afternoon. I was reluctant to go.
The tube was only packed at rush hour. Lots more space and room to move about and distance from what I could tell. I was quite comfortable with it all. Way too hot and muggy though and hard to sleep in the hotel.

I think it’s ok if you try and do outdoor activities and avoid busy areas. I was going to take my daughter this weekend but now we have Covid instead. Double jabbed and it’s been awful. So please do take care out there people.

Well, we went! Had a lovely day. Anxiety eased somewhat on arrival, kept our masks on at all times and sanitised regularly. Appreciate all the comments and support.”

So glad you enjoyed it Smile

Was it quieter than a typical July day?

I work in central London, and it's a lot quieter than usual.

@MoonlightFancy

Thanks for the input, all. We're going to the Tower of London. I know it's not entirely reasonable, I just feel so anxious! Some of my family have bad asthma and it makes me worry more I suppose! The news doesn't help, that's for sure.
I would say that is low risk. Lots of the tower of London is outside and there really aren't many tourists at the moment. In a weird way central London is quieter than the zone 3-6 areas where people actually live and have to get on with life/travel to work etc. (My area!)

One thing I would say is try and avoid peak times on the tube and if it is busy, get the bus instead (sit upstairs!! It's much better distanced) or get an user

My elderly parents live in London too and are vulnerable but have had no choice but to get on with life...you can avoid the worst of it, you just have to be a bit more flexible, be willing to alter your routes if they look a bit crowded
