Somehow one of the photos from this company made it into my Facebook feed this morning, as a couple of friends had commented on it in horror.

They sell very expensive stylish baby stuff including this baby hammock and hammock duvet for newborns. These photos seem to be from their customers using the products and when I saw them I felt so panicked. One of the babies is literally asleep with their chin on their chest.

How is a company selling these and sharing photos like this in this day and age? Almost every post on their page has loads of angry reactions and links to safe sleep guidelines.

AIBU to think that sharing photos like this (and selling the items obviously) is so irresponsible? It normalises what is clearly unsafe sleep for those seeing them and many won’t know how dangerous this is.

Shock YANBU How on earth are they able to be sold as safe for newborns and babies?
Splendo · 17/07/2021 10:06

Oh god I've just looked at their page and can't believe it's real. There's a photo of one of their baby hammocks with fairy lights wrapped all over it, and the baby inside swamped in a duvet. So dangerous Sad

Twickerhun · 17/07/2021 10:11

That’s horrifying

SinkGirl · 17/07/2021 10:14

I’ve honestly never seen anything like it in my life. And of course the fact that the babies are asleep on their backs, but that photo of the baby with their chin on their chest is really got to me.

I expect they’re on of those companies that puts a disclaimer on the listing saying “not suitable for sleeping” and think that’s enough.

Clearly there’s no law against selling dangerous things like this otherwise cot bumpers wouldn’t exist, but this is a whole new level.

Funny that when you go to the contact oage on their website a '404 error' message comes up.

The founders message seems fake too and the picture is probably a stock image.

The whole business needs to be shut down. So much misinformation and suspected lies on their website.

Whinge · 17/07/2021 10:18

I expect they’re on of those companies that puts a disclaimer on the listing saying “not suitable for sleeping” and think that’s enough.

Actually they do the complete opposite, this is taken from their hammock listing

An elegant wooden cross pin made of dark walnut, a mattress filled with kapok, a 100% natural, hypoallergenic fiber, and sides made of soft organic cotton. There is no need for anything else for your child to sleep safely. The baby hammock is GOTS certified.

Hammock

They have the audacity to actually include the words sleep safely!!!!

Shock

On the plus side - almost every comment below each picture points out how dangerous it is and gives a link to the Lullaby trust. Agree that it is a very dangerous product.

In their FAQs they actually say that baby should sleep on a firm surface and that parents should follow sleep guidelines of their country. It’s very mixed messaging.

Thebookswereherfriends · 17/07/2021 10:23

Cross post

Ohmych · 17/07/2021 10:23

That is horrific!

Divebar2021 · 17/07/2021 10:24

That’s freaked me out. It goes against all common sense. I know of a case where a baby suffocated in a soft sling being worn by the mother… these things are wonderful in theory but you have to know what you’re doing with them. I wonder what the safety standards are for products for newborns?

Faranth · 17/07/2021 10:24

From the website - I am proud that midwives recommend Moonboon’s baby hammock for newborns and children who weigh up to 15 kg.

Get to fuck do they!

grey12 · 17/07/2021 10:27

Soooo many soft furnishings for the baby to suffocate Shock

Rubyupbeat · 17/07/2021 10:38

Goodness, have to admit, I didn't know about the head on the chest bit, mind you at my age I won't be having any more sprogs, I hope all new parents are told about this danger, I did know about all those soft pillow things round the babies face, even back in my babies days (80s) we were told about the dangers of cot bumpers.
It seems this company either has no idea, or doesn't care!

HyggeTygge · 17/07/2021 10:44

Oh my god, that first picture with thick padding all around him!
Hopefully the comments will alert anyone who didn't already know.
Clearly the 'safe sleep' message has gone in deep with a lot of us hence being so shocked at these pictures...

HyggeTygge · 17/07/2021 10:49

It's not just their Facebook page either- the 3rd pic is from their actual website, selling a duvet for babies, designed because babies "were getting too hot under an adult duvet"!! Shock

Sirzy · 17/07/2021 10:49

The GOTS certified that they claim is to do with the fabrics being organic. Hardly surprising their is no certification of them being safe

MrCoulsonRocksMyWorld · 17/07/2021 10:49

If enough people comment on the reviews and FB photos, hopefully that will help alert new or prospective parents to the sheer lunacy of these products. It’s honestly terrifying. Does a baby actually have to die for them to be removed from sale??

SinkGirl · 17/07/2021 13:21

@Sirzy

The GOTS certified that they claim is to do with the fabrics being organic. Hardly surprising their is no certification of them being safe
Definitely not surprising.

And yes, no midwife anywhere would ever be okay with this.

Sure, some of the photos of them in nurseries look lovely but who could look at those in use photos and think it’s a good idea?

They are a tragedy waiting to happen.

That's disgusting! All for what... Aesthetic? Stupid

girlmom21 · 17/07/2021 13:45

The sad thing is that so many people choose to purchase these items and ignore safe sleeping advice and babies lose their lives. They should 100% be illegal.

LittleRed53 · 17/07/2021 13:47

Looks like it's a Danish company, so I don't know who they could be reported to...

Very dodgy that the GOTS certificate is for organic products and sustainability, and they sidestep the question of safety testing Confused

What an evil company
