People with coughs shouldn’t be allowed in restaurants?

AIBU to think people with continual coughs shouldn’t be allowed in a restaurant at the moment and to be annoyed a restaurant allowed someone with a very obvious cough dine there?

OP posts:
NeonDreams · 15/07/2021 07:02

My mum was born with bad lungs and has (non-smoking related) COPD, as well as Chronic Asthma. OP, you would have her go no where (when she is mainly home/bedroom bound as it is), through something that is by no fault of your own. OP, people like you are selfish, ignorant and disgusting.

@Andrewsgirl

I’m not trying to wind anyone up. I am interested in what other peoples thoughts are. When I made the booking the email confirmation clearly says you should not attend if you have Covid symptoms. A continual cough is a Covid symptom. I was shocked to sit at a table next to a diner who spent most of the night continually coughing.
If is not a new cough, it's not a Covid symptom!

Stay home and stop trying to ruin other people's lives!

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 15/07/2021 07:06

Give me a break! I have seasonal asthma brought on by pollen . About a month ago I was coughing and clearing my throat constantly, it wasn't covid!

greenzeppelin · 15/07/2021 07:08

I cough a lot at this tim rod year - seems it's pollen and not COVID as it happens every year. If you had your way I should stay home all the time?

@Andrewsgirl

Bit of a difficult thing to establish though, whether it’s new or old cough !
Well luckily you don’t have to. It’s for the actual person with the cough to know and none of your business,
BountyIsUnderrated · 15/07/2021 07:13

Are you serious? I'm asthmatic and have coughing fits daily so by your definition I would never be allowed to go out.
What a discrimination against people with respiratory issues.

lightand · 15/07/2021 07:14

I cough in cold air.
Air conditioning makes me cough.

Will even sneeze as well, if cold and hot air combines.

I take your point though.

sst1234 · 15/07/2021 07:14

Looks like OP didn’t return. Probably because they got asked to tidy up their room by their Mum.

Kokosrieksts · 15/07/2021 07:14

Get a grip

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. It’s difficult for YOU to establish if someone else’s cough is a new continuous cough. Therefore for YOU to feel safe and protected the best thing for YOU to do is remove YOU from the situation.

Hope that helps

Bettysnow · 15/07/2021 07:17

I know people who were diagnosed with covid and a cough was not one of their symptoms. I also know people who had a cough and they did not have covid

Strugglingtodomybest · 15/07/2021 07:24

You are being so unreasonable that I'm struggling to believe this is real.

Bit of a difficult thing to establish though, whether it’s new or old cough !

Think about what you've just said.

HeavenHotel · 15/07/2021 07:26

I'm reporting this post! How fucking dare you.

How can one person be so ignorant.

I'm an asthmatic, so I'm supposed to stay inside forever!!

How to stir up hate and discrimination, in one post!

Sadly I think they'll be a lot of self appointed Covid Marshall's!

Why they can't just stay indoors I don't know, let others get on with their lives.

WhateverHappenedToMe · 15/07/2021 07:29

I have chronic cough. I guess I'm not allowed to eat in a restaurant ever again.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 15/07/2021 07:32

What!!! I have a permanent cough because I'm on ramipril and that's one of the side effects for some people. There are a 1000 other reasons why people have a cough. But lets just ban everyone who coughs shall we?
Hmm

Thisismyname77463 · 15/07/2021 07:39

@Biancadelrioisback

Smoker here, I've been coughing continually for about 2 years.
Maybe you shouldn’t smoke, that doesn’t sound pleasant.
Motherofmonsters · 15/07/2021 07:40

My kids have had a cough for 3 weeks now from having a cold, coughs can take forever to go

Sadiecow · 15/07/2021 07:41

Seriously?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 15/07/2021 07:41

Fucking ridiculous. I said last night it's like going back in time to April 2020 on here.

I have hay fever and acid reflux and both make me cough. Masks also make me cough and so does stress. I'm not staying at home to pander to the likes of the OP and their stupid ideas!

Imnothereforthedrama · 15/07/2021 07:44

You should no by now that not everyone with Covid has a cough so yabu .

I know this has almost certainly been mentioned by now but just in case it hasn't...

A continuous cough is ONLY a covid symptom if it is a NEW continuous cough. You have no way of knowing whether the cough is new or not so you have no idea whether the other diner had a covid sympton. Just worry about yourself and stop meddling in other people's lives.

Peace43 · 15/07/2021 07:46

My DD and I both suffer from hay fever and cough all bloody summer. It annoys both of us but we don’t have Covid! We’ve had clear PCR tests (not prompted by the cough but whilst we were coughing).

Yellow85 · 15/07/2021 07:46

@MalingeringMary

I coughed for two hours yesterday cos I got a bit of crisp stuck in my throat. Continually.
Hope you did a test 🤣🤣🤣 lol
Feelingoktoday · 15/07/2021 07:48

My partner had a new cough. Also swollen glands. He was tested twice - negative. We can only assume it was a summer cold that we all get. Was he expected to stay in and isolate. The official advice was that he didn’t need to stay in once he got the results.
