Hen / Wedding cost

Rubyrecka · 12/07/2021 15:45

A min of £400 for the hen
And a min of £250 for accommodation for the wedding (out of town) this obviously excludes anything else associated with attending such as travel, dinner, wedding present etc etc.

Is a minimum of £650 a bit much to expect guests to pay for hen and wedding?

Oh it was £400 for hen and £250 for wedding

Even so I think you shouldn't expect huge presents and don't ask for money from your guests if that is what you're expecting them to pay.

myfuckingfreezer · 12/07/2021 16:36

I was just booking all the appointments, hair, tan etc and thought hang on this is gonna cost a bomb.

Well hang on, those are extras you are adding on! Not costs demanded or expected? You can hardly complain about them!

Thevoiceofreason2021 · 12/07/2021 16:37

That is an unreasonable amount of money to expect anyone to pay. If you can’t afford it say so. You might not be the only one struggling to justify that kind of money. Maybe arrange an alternative like a nice meal in town?

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 12/07/2021 16:38

I wouldn’t say a minimum of 650 quid was “a bit much” for a hen-do plus a wedding, I’d call that a piss-take

Manista · 12/07/2021 16:40

Personally - I wouldn't go to the hen. I'm simply not prepared to pay more than the cost of a nice meal and a few drinks for a hen do they are completely out of control these days. For the wedding I'd look in booking.com or similar and see if I could find somewhere close enough to stay and drive to the wedding from there. A travel lodge or similar.

readingismycardio · 12/07/2021 16:40

This might be a very unpopular opinion. Our wedding was pretty expensive and I really didn't want a hen do. The girls insisted on organising one so we went for cocktails and dinner. It was amazing.

BobMortimersPetOwl · 12/07/2021 16:43

I don't really understand what your hair and tan appointments have got to do with the cost of your hen do.

I wouldn't pay £400, and wouldn't go to anything which was longer than 24hrs.

£250 for a room depends really on where, what type of room, what's included etc.

tallduckandhandsome · 12/07/2021 16:43

@readingismycardio not unpopular, but irrelevant

Yep and I bet guests are subsidising the cost of the wedding venue. I deffo wouldn’t stay there on principle.

Not irrelevant since the OP was asking if it's too much for a hen do. Yes, yes it is.

DartmoorChef · 12/07/2021 16:47

Ridiculous amount of money. I wouldn't be attending at that price. 650 is a weeks holiday in lanzarote for me.

mindutopia · 12/07/2021 16:47

The hen is optional (just don't go) and I can't imagine accommodation really being that much, just get a cheap Airbnb or a Travelodge. Even if you need to spend two nights, you should be able to find something cheaper than 250.

Rubyrecka · 12/07/2021 16:47

I mean the tan appt etc isn't really going to bump it up THAT much. But yes I could do it myself and save myself £20

Ok so general consensus is it's asking too much. More so for the hen.

The wedding and hen is out of town hence the cost of the accommodation. Hen is one night and wedding is two nights.

OP posts:
Mrgrinch · 12/07/2021 16:49

I wouldn't go. That's taking the piss.

Rubyrecka · 12/07/2021 16:50

@BobMortimersPetOwl becos I am calculating the total cost of outgoings. And its not my hen I've been invited.

OP posts:
CrouchEndTiger12 · 12/07/2021 16:50

What is £400 for on a one night hen do?! That is obscene.

SoddingWeddings · 12/07/2021 16:50

That's obscene. Utterly insane.

Hair and tan should be paid for by the bride / groom if they want it done.

What on earth are you doing for a £400 - 24hr hen do?

Are you the bride or a wedding guest / bridesmaid?

Rubyrecka · 12/07/2021 16:51

I'm a wedding guest

You should have said.

Just decline to go!

OwlinaTree · 12/07/2021 16:51

£400 for one night away on a hen party! Shock

That is ridiculous.

tallduckandhandsome · 12/07/2021 16:51

Not irrelevant since the OP was asking if it's too much for a hen do. Yes, yes it is.

Ok but your post didn’t say that so I couldn’t see the relevance.

Hopdathelf · 12/07/2021 16:52

Grin spot on

Hopdathelf · 12/07/2021 16:54

Hair and tan are totally optional so no sympathy on that front.

£500 or so for three nights is actually not too bad, especially if some of it can be shared with a plus one or friend sharing a room.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 12/07/2021 16:54

@Rubyrecka

I'm a wedding guest
Can you afford it? If you can do you want to spend the money?

I would say no. Make excuses bad year, covid, wage cuts whatever Flowers

Bellyups · 12/07/2021 16:55

Yeah that’s way too much to spend.
