To take more alcohol than allowed to Wilderness Festival?

4 day festival with limit of either 12 beers or 2 bottles of wine.

Would I be unreasonable to take more than this measly limit?

I'd have to be creative in my packing and I guess being caught will depend on how thorough their searches are.

Has anyone been that can say a bit about security searches on entry?

@osbertthesyrianhamster

Quite right, OP. My camping at festival days are long in the past, but I always preferred using drugs at them because they don't usually make you need to loo as much as booze (easier to store, too) Grin.
It's been over 10 years since my last one and I fear my days are behind be me too!

Apparently (I've not tried it) a bottle of wine (or spirits if you really want to go for it Grin ) fits perfectly into a folded camping chair in it's carry bag

mewkins · 11/07/2021 21:26

Put in your tent bag... or rolled up in a sleeping bag.... or at the bottom of a camping trolley with a false bottom. All of those work well Grin

You can buy fake seals on Amazon.

My method of choice was the wet wipes packet. One mini wine bag, one wipes packet and some double sided tape.
Slit wipes down the back with a sharp blade, remove wipes, put wine bag in and then double side tape the seam back down again to the packet.

We are going to Standon calling which has the same limit. I think it’s a bit cheeky as you can’t take any alcohol it into the arena so are forced to spend at the bar anyway. I’m used to festivals where you can take any amount in and drink it anywhere you want so normally take a cool box with frozen cocktails and wine. We still buy drinks there but saves some money and queuing time.
Following for ideas.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 11/07/2021 21:32

I went a few years back and they were checking every bag. But it was quite light touch so you definitely get away with it. The bars are daylight robbery

CherryPieface · 11/07/2021 21:34

Boomtown has had similar rules for years, they just want to make as much money at the bars inside. But I’ve never known anyone to be searched etc. You can probably take in more with no problems.

Branleuse · 11/07/2021 21:34

Youll be able to buy it onsite. The limit is just to take into the campsite but youll be able to buy more there

littlefireseverywhere · 11/07/2021 21:36

Wilderness is also close to a town so you can walk & buy supplies.

NotSonicTheHedgehog · 11/07/2021 21:40

Wear wellies you can get loads miniatures in them.

I think that you may have missed the point of the thread

A few years ago I bought a box of water (this was in Australia but assume you can buy them here as well), opened the box, emptied out 95% of the water, put the bag back in the box with the spout near the bit that opens. Then put a bag of wine on top. Super glue the box back together.
If they're suspicious, you can open it and pour water out Grin

YouLookNiceJackie · 11/07/2021 21:45

A can of beer fits perfectly in a Pringles tube with a fair few Pringles on top 😄.
Go to a queue with a male security guard as they are limited to how much they can search you.
You can get fake sun cream bottles/ice blocks etc on Amazon that are made to hide alcohol.
Put small bottles in your wellies.
In your hood.

YouLookNiceJackie · 11/07/2021 21:46

In tent or sleeping bag too!

TheChosenTwo · 11/07/2021 21:47

I’ve got one of those plastic 1l bottles which are totally flat when empty but can be filled - I’ve put vodka in that before and stuffed it in my bra Grin
Not to this particular festival but unless someone’s touching your boobs you’re not going to get discovered!

TheChosenTwo · 11/07/2021 21:49

A bit like this, foldable collapsible type thing.
Alternatively, decant your chosen spirit into a nearly full soft drink bottle so it’s already diluted and try and glue the seal back together?

TheChosenTwo · 11/07/2021 21:50

But I must say, packing it all inside the tent seems like the absolute best idea really, I’m not a camper nor a festival goer but I can’t see anyone making you unpack your tent just to make sure you’re not smuggling anything in!

Thisisworsethananticpated · 11/07/2021 21:57

Take some weed instead 😬 they can’t cavity search surely

MolyHolyGuacamole · 11/07/2021 21:59

Bottle of wine in a welly boot. X2.

JobHelp123 · 11/07/2021 21:59

Not sure if this approach has been mentioned already but a friend of mine got around rules like this once by opening wine boxes, wrapping the unpackaged bags of wine in tin foil and putting them in sandwich boxes. She's a genius.

Coppercreek1 · 11/07/2021 22:07

Are you or any of your friends of the large breastfed variety?

I have snuck many a spirit into concerts using breast milk storage bags in the bra. I can fit 70cl in mine but my smaller booked sister can only fit 30cl

This is a great thread to read as a member of security staff 😁

Figgygal · 11/07/2021 22:14

Some of these ideas are genius
I have something that looks like an umbrella but the “handle” is just a refillable bottle

😂 Don't be a spoil sport

(disclaimer : DH is security, I know how hideous it can be. )

As for getting alcohol into the main areas, wine pouches (the sort of ones you get in wine boxes) are easy to conceal about your person when they're less full. Or wear loose clothing and gaffer tape hip flasks to places where they won't be obvious - it's entirely reasonable to be taking gaffer tape to a festival in case of emergency tent repairs, right?

Also, in terms of getting it in in the first place, split your stash up. The more it's spread out the less likely they are to find it all Grin And wine pouches are a lot easier to hide than bottles. Experience has taught me that the time they do most of the checks is at the entrance gate to the car park (I once got my car stopped and all bags searched along with the car) so if there's any hidden storage spaces in your car - say, under the back seats or in the spare wheel well - now is the time to investigate the car's handbook!
