To take more alcohol than allowed to Wilderness Festival?

4 day festival with limit of either 12 beers or 2 bottles of wine.

Would I be unreasonable to take more than this measly limit?

I'd have to be creative in my packing and I guess being caught will depend on how thorough their searches are.

Has anyone been that can say a bit about security searches on entry?

@WomanStanleyWoman

I’ll say one thing: baby food pouches.
This is just the type of creativity I was looking for.

@FunnyInjury

Why is this? Is it a family type festival? Seems quite bizarre Confused
I've never come across a limit before. Appreciate the main arena is usually restricted but usually have what you like at camp, albeit with no glass bottles which I fully understand.

Families do go but it is not classified as a family festival.

Roll one up inside your tent, or get those hidden hairbrush/tampon hip flasks. Haven't been to that specific festival but in my experience they aren't that thorough with checking, if it isn't right in front of them they won't find it.

RJnomore1 · 11/07/2021 18:36

Capri sun refilled with spirits and stuffed in your bra

That’s what the kids do at TRNSMT

But seriously if you can buy on site it’s fine if not id be rethinking going

DragonMamma · 11/07/2021 18:37

Always boxes of wine that have been decanted and just stash the inner bag somewhere - inside your tent or strapped to you 👍🏻

Window1 · 11/07/2021 18:37

@AnUnoriginalUsername

Put it inside your tent before you roll it up, they're not gonna open your tent out to look for a bit of booze.
This is a good one.

get 2 bottles of wine, empty them out (into your mouth 😁) fill them with vodka and put the corks back in or glue the seals back round 😁

@HeddaGarbled

Is Wilderness one of the ones struggling financially? If so, you ought to support them properly if you want them to survive.
This has been their policy for years so it's not as a result of COVID.

It's to make you spend there nit control drunkenness.

When I lived in the ME my country wasn't dry, expats used to visit and fill shampoo / body lotion / sun cream bottles and stick them through the dishwasher to get rid of residue.

Or can you go off site to restock and renter?

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 11/07/2021 18:40

It seems a bit desperate/tight to me to go to the lengths of decanting alcohol into plastic bottles/baby food pouchesJust bring the amount you are allowed and buy whatever else you need! It will probably taste better nice and cold that from a Luke warm bottle anyway.....

DearTeddyRobinson · 11/07/2021 18:41

@ghostyslovesheets tit bacardi!! GrinGrinGrin

SW1amp · 11/07/2021 18:49

You’re allowed to take a picnic, right..?

Go to the site a few days beforehand and bury your stash.

LubaLuca · 11/07/2021 18:50

Is boozing perhaps not 'entering into the spirit' of the festival? I've never heard of this event, but is there a health or spiritual theme that they would like to promote and the limited alcohol is part of that?

I dunno, but presumably you can buy more alcohol there to avoid being marked out as a troublemaker if your tit Bacardi leaks before you get to the entry point.

Festival bars oft run out of ice/fridges break so can be horribly warm too, plus £6/7 for a v rank plastic cup of wine 🤢
MichelleScarn · 11/07/2021 18:53

@SW1amp love that is Glen's! Grin

TitsInAbsentia · 11/07/2021 18:55

They're pretty tight on checking when you go in to the arena, so it's only worth taking what you'll drink in the campsite (and will that go nice and warm in the tent!). I always thing a bag of red wine fits nicely in to your clothing rucksack though...

TigersandTeddybears · 11/07/2021 18:55

Empty out the wine bottles, refill with spirits

21Bee · 11/07/2021 18:56

I went (although in 2018) and they were checking peoples bags. We were early 20s and has filled up a few hip flasks and stashed them on us (pockets, bras etc…).

It wasn’t a big drunken festival in the way something like Reading and Leeds are. It was a great time though and you could get a few hours sleep too.

KarlMaldensNose · 11/07/2021 18:56

@MichelleScarn
That’s exactly what I was thinking
No ice, horrible plastic single use cup and 125ml of really cheap wine £6.00 -£7.00
There’s being supportive which is fine, nobody minds paying a fair price for the product but it is normally an absolute swizz

suggestionsplease1 · 11/07/2021 18:56

I remember going to concerts years ago with vodka in mini shampoo / conditioner bottles, but despite rinsing them thoroughly the vodka always picked up some residue and tasted rank! A friend who was a dental nurse used the mini mouthwash bottles and didn't have the same problem.

Maybe a final rinse with a splash of spirits before filling up would sort that?

hullaballoo19 · 11/07/2021 18:57

My suggestions are hidden in with the tent (already mentioned), those bendy flask pouch things (can easily get a few of these hidden amongst clothes in a rucksack and a few in the tent as well) and emptying and refilling large juice bottles (I'm a whiskey drinker so have previously used apple juice bottles - risk them opening for a sniff but I haven't had that happen before). In my experience they tend to only have a brief look in the tops of bags and feel the outsides of bags to check for what feels like bottles of alcohol. Have fun 😊

Imapotato · 11/07/2021 18:58

Vodka in sun cream or shower gel bottles. Pillow case stuffed with bags of wine up your top and pretend to be pregnant. They’ll be less likely to do a thorough search. Take a water melon which has been pre injected with vodka. There are many options.

I’ve been to festivals with similar rules. Ive always just relied on luck, they don’t search everybody and they don’t always search that thoroughly so I’ve usually just hidden my alcohol in it’s packaging deep in my bags and spread it out across all my things as they don’t always search every bag. If you’re going as a big group arriving together spread the alcohol out as they’re very unlikely to pick out everybody in the group to search at the same time. If you have any friends going who won’t use their allocation obviously make sure they carry some for you!

I’ve never bothered getting creative to hide it but I have friends who have, the bags from in a wine box hidden in a pillow case are good as they won’t be felt if they just pat the bag down. Decanting into innocuous items is also a good idea, generally my experience is security are looking for drugs more than drink and aren’t too strict on opening up juice cartons etc but can’t comment on this particular festival.

Buy some extra alcohol which will keep if you don’t use it and leave it in the car as the chances of being searched every time you re-enter the festival are slim.
