Do you sit or stand when you have the jab?

Remoulade · 11/07/2021 12:30

Not had my first jab yet and going today. Pregnant and incredibly anxious about it. Want to minimise touching anything with any part of my body (yes I know I am over worried, saying it really won't help) and was wondering if you stood up or sat down when you had yours? The thought of sitting on a possibly covid infested chair is making my skin crawl.

Also, if you're meant to sit, can you ask to stand?😐

YABU - I was sitting down
YANBU - I was standing up

@Hercisback

Yes covid spreads like wildfire through parcels and doorbells.... Jeeeeez.

Now I do think you're not the brightest. You certainly can't evaluate risk very well.

😂

This happened a long time ago when all the rage was to wash our hands as well.
But yes, you are so clearly more intelligent than I am.

A little insulting, I think.

I have witnessed many many intelligent reasonable people become totally obsessed with viral transmission throughout this pandemic.

Just be grateful you have remained reasonable and help the people who haven’t. It’s not like they’re enjoying being so scared.

Nocutenamesleft · 11/07/2021 15:18

*_ Really? You wouldn't freak out if your 80+ year old neighbour took in a parcel for you half an hour ago, and then handed it to you and touched around his mouth and nose with that same hand?

If he did that with his own delivery, okay. But I freaked out because it was my delivery. It could be my fault his wife, kids and grandkids were left without him. I don't think I would ever stop feeling guilty over that._*

But covid isn’t passed from parcels?!?

LIZS · 11/07/2021 15:19

You sit down, and may have to do so afterwards. All chairs are wiped with disinfectant between patients. Hand gel etc available everywhere. You will be handed leaflets though, maybe use disposable gloves if that concerns you. Are you having help with anxiety?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/07/2021 15:20

@GreenFingersWouldBeHandy - I think @Remoulade was shouting because she had tried to explain that she was worried about her elderly neighbour getting ill because he’d handled her parcel, and that she would feel guilty if that happened - and people weren’t understanding her. She was not worried about herself.

OddBoots · 11/07/2021 15:20

No-one will mind if you stand or if you bring your own wipes and gloves and clean the seat yourself before you use it. Smile

Hercisback · 11/07/2021 15:21

I didn't say covid couldn't spread via doorbells/parcels. But the risk is absolutely tiny. We weren't allowed to mark books in September, by December it was allowed again because of new evidence.

I don't know if I'm more intelligent than you. Impossible to test online. However I'm in a majority pointing out your anxiety is outside the bounds of normal and you need to work on that before baby arrives.

Remoulade · 11/07/2021 15:21

@GreenFingersWouldBeHandy

BECAUSE THE AMAZON MAN WHO IS KNOCKING AND RINGING DOORBELLS FOR A LIVING HANDED HIM MY PARCEL WHICH MY NEIGHBOUR THEN HANDED TO ME AND TOUCHED HIS FACE.

Now you're just being rude.

What would you have done if THE AMAZON MAN WHO TOUCHES DOORBELLS FOR A LIVING had actually handed the parcel to you?

You're completely ignoring everyone who is saying your anxiety is not normal.

I would have cleaned my hands. I wouldn't have touched my face.

Some people truly come here just to argue and pick things apart. Failing miserably mind 🤨

It can be.

It can survive on surfaces for hours, and in some cases days.
It remains one of the many transmission paths.

But surely he’d had the parcel for longer than a few mins? Otherwise you’d of taken it? At which point the germ would of died?

Am I missing something here?

diddl · 11/07/2021 15:21

I would have thought that it's easier to relax your arm whilst seated.

Hercisback · 11/07/2021 15:23

It’s not like they’re enjoying being so scared.

I think OP is enjoying it. Or at least refusing to acknowledge she's over reacting.

I think people's attitude has depended on their job. In school/hospital/shop etc all day and you soon stop worrying.

MouldyPotato · 11/07/2021 15:23

What's the whole point of the HANDS in Hands Face Space if you can't spread it by touching things.

Well bloody hell

Learn something new everyday. I didn’t know this. I’m CEV. As is my 7 yr old. We never wiped down a parcel

However. I still won’t. But I’m more aware now. Cheers!

VerticalHorizon · 11/07/2021 15:25

I agree that you will drive yourself crazy if you overthink everything.

Everything is a matter of probability, and there is no chance of getting 'zero' probability. There comes a point where paranoia becomes more dangerous than Covid itself (which, even if you catch it, is still usually manageable for most people).

Personally, I found getting my vaccination utterly inspiring. We aren't such a naff country after all, and we CAN organise things very well. Hundreds of people treated rapidly and respectfully. It's a beautiful thing.

Covid doesn't die in 30 minutes..
OP posts:
Garfunkle · 11/07/2021 15:27

I sat for my first vaccine. That, I think, was because the nurse took a few minutes to check my details on the computer and transfer the details to my vaccine card.

I wasn’t invited to sit for the second vaccine. The nurse asked for my vaccine card, jabbed my arm then wrote the details of vaccine and the date on the card. It took about a minute in all.

You will probably be invited to sit as you’re pregnant. If you really are that scared of picking up covid from the chair you could always ask to stand 🤷🏻‍♀️

DeadButDelicious · 11/07/2021 15:27

Seated. They cleaned each room and every chair in between patients. Definitely not COVID infested.

AnyOldPrion · 11/07/2021 15:28

HRTFT, so probably repeating what others have said, but the chairs were disinfected between each patient.

In addition, they tell you to cough into your elbow because you’re very unlikely to pick up an infection from clothing.

So unless you put your hands on the chair and then on your face, it’s a near certainty you won’t be infected that way.

I literally acknowledged my anxiety in my original post.

What I don't accept is that it's unreasonable to not touch public surfaces when there's literally no need. As I said, I have a husband who can become deathly ill with a common cold.
We also both have high pressure jobs where being ill is pretty much the end of the world. I'm exaggerating but you get the gist.

Does it? Are there any studies that show cases of Covid being caught from surfaces this way?
IllForTooLong · 11/07/2021 15:29

@Remoulade, chairs are cleaned between patients
It’s part of the protocol.

So they won’t be grumpy, infested with Covid or any other germ.

PattyPan · 11/07/2021 15:29

If the neighbour had cared about the vanishingly small chance of catching covid from your parcel I’m sure he wouldn’t have touched his face. As the chance is next to nil, you really don’t need to worry.

Plus I didn't take it when it atrived as I was in a zoom meeting. I've stated on another thread my new role needs to be changed to "professional meeter". It's all I do. It's all we both do.

Oh you're one of those. Too important to have a job that requires leaving the house.
