Why is asos selling a fake pregnancy belly?

It's advertised as maternity shapewear, which is bad enough, but it looks like a fake belly to me?

@FrankButchersDickieBow yeah I am- when things are actually hilarious!

Look, I am autistic so maybe I just don’t get the mirth the same as other people do 🤷🏻‍♀️

I won’t lie though I’ve actually never read anything on Mumsnet to induce the wine the dog/baby/DH is looking at my like I’m mad/spat coffee all over my keyboard response don’t posters claim to have.

🤣🤣🤣

To be fair to the OP, the photo looks weird because of the fake belly. Could they not have hired a pregnant model? Or at least blended the colour of the fake belly, I’m sure they photoshop other bits of various photos after all.

Actually ASOS have a policy of zero touch ups.

Which is why a lot of models won't do work for ASOS - you see everything - stretch marks and all.

This means it's not as easy for them as other brands to hire pregnant models.

Good grief! I think you should go and hide in shame op!

iklboo · 11/07/2021 18:22

@DumplingsAndStew - not at all, it's a weird fact.

My favourite is the denture fixative ad where the woman is in a giant gob which is eating carrots, cereal bars etc & it says...

@SmidgenofaPigeon - I think it's funny that the OP thought 'what the bloody hell are they selling in the name of fashion now?' Which, given some crap on the cat walks, might not have been that far out of the realm of possibilities. If that makes any sense?

SmidgenofaPigeon · 11/07/2021 18:33

@iklboo- thanks!

If only this was the most shameful thing that has ever happened to me!

In my defence, it was a Facebook ad and the first photo was padded arse shapewear. That DID have a fake arse in it. The next one was the pregnancy shapewear and I got ahead of myself.

I'm sure we've all said/done stupid things but most of us realise the error of our ways before we post on hereWink

@SmidgenofaPigeon

I’m really not getting where all the tea-spitting comedy is coming from though Confused Im afraid I think some of you have a low bar for ‘hilarity’.
Thanks for joining in

They've also said that it's not ethical to hire heavily pregnant women as modelling is quite physically intense work when shooting for a day, for example.

Hahaha

I like the one where a fiat 500.drives off a cliff into the sea and then swims underwater to Italy, or something.
