Why is asos selling a fake pregnancy belly?

It's advertised as maternity shapewear, which is bad enough, but it looks like a fake belly to me?

OP posts:

Brilliant, thanks for the chuckle

RainbowBriteUk · 11/07/2021 16:12

OP I love you!!!

MouldyPotato · 11/07/2021 16:19

Some of them are foam bumps but some of them are pregnant. I saw one that said the model was 6 months pregnant.

Funniest thread I've seen for ages!

I once had a lapse of braincells, picked a hairdryer box up in argos that had an empty blister pack on show and announced to my bf that I was amazed at the see through hairdryer. He never stopped taking the piss after.

@Toottooot

Shapewear was the only underwear I found comfortable in pregnancy. I didn’t wear to conceal my size or look slimmer before anyone accuses me of that. It was the only underwear that felt supportive.
I’m the same @Toottooot, currently pregnant and all my other underwear is driving me loopy, too unsupportive and creeps down or cuts into the bump. Maternity supportwear stays where put, supports my bump and because they come down my thighs I can wear dresses without needing tights for chub rub.
DumplingsAndStew · 11/07/2021 16:52

'Fess up, OP, are you the reason they put warnings on products like 'peanuts, might contain nuts'?

@ouchmyfeet

I'm confused about why maternity Spanx are a thing Hmm
I had some I’m a bit flabby all over and would normally wear shape wear under a dress for a special occasion. I wore this under a dress and it held in and smoothed my bum and thighs whilst letting my pregnant belly hang out free

🤣🤣🤣

To be fair to the OP, the photo looks weird because of the fake belly. Could they not have hired a pregnant model? Or at least blended the colour of the fake belly, I’m sure they photoshop other bits of various photos after all.

noodlezoodle · 11/07/2021 17:07

This thread is comedy gold. Can't stop laughing at "the part that goes over the bump isn't tight and spanky" Grin

Eviethyme · 11/07/2021 17:24

okay this made me laugh XD

Eviethyme · 11/07/2021 17:26

also shapewear isnt really for slimming its for shaping, for example if i wear a certain type of dress or top it makes me look like i have plenty of rolls but shapewear will slim it out to look smooth

blahblahblah321 · 11/07/2021 17:29

OMG this has made my day (better than the football)

I’m really not getting where all the tea-spitting comedy is coming from though Confused
Im afraid I think some of you have a low bar for ‘hilarity’.

iklboo · 11/07/2021 17:49

Fess up, OP, are you the reason they put warnings on products like 'peanuts, might contain nuts'?

Strange but true fact - peanuts aren't nuts. They're legumes. So they put that warning on as they may have come into contact with 'real' nuts in the factory.

Which begs the question why call them bloody peanuts then you weird people in charge of deciding what things are called?

There's always some miserable person on threads where - heaven forbid- posters have a bit of a laugh at something daft.
SmidgenofaPigeon · 11/07/2021 17:56

I’m not miserable I am just missing where the joke is! OP thought ASOS were selling a pregnancy belly…but, they’re not.

DumplingsAndStew · 11/07/2021 17:56

@iklboo

😂 fair enough, bad example.

I did actually save these to my phone the other day to send to my teenager. They may be apt here.

The models are often not act pregnant. I don't mean to take the piss. I didn't know this until recently. So just sharing FYI.
