Am I bad for having never downloaded the NHS covid app?

I realise with all this talk of the NHS app that I have never downloaded it - I didnt realise that I should?

I have always provided name and address when asked in restaurants, pubs etc but havent had the app running generally.

I guess I like to think that I'm fairly safe - I have been working from home since Jan and interacting with partner who goes to work and children at school and a few occasions interacting with parents in law and parents. My only interaction with others is at the supermarket several times a week.

Have I been irresponsible or just managed the risk appropriately? If everyone isnt doing it what is the point of anyone doing it?

I guess that's why cases are so high 🤔

FluffMagnet · 09/07/2021 13:58

I've never had it nor wanted it either OP.

Youdiditanyway · 09/07/2021 14:00

DH never bothered. I had it until a few days ago then decided to delete it. Just figured I won’t have to isolate at all in a few weeks so I’m not wasting any of the next 4 weeks isolating because I may have sat sort of near a positive case once in a restaurant or whatever.

TheDinosaurMum · 09/07/2021 14:04

Never had it. Didn't see the point.

Track and trace can call me of I need to isolate.

I have been vaccinated for ages now due to job even though I'm in my early 30's.

Marguerite2000 · 09/07/2021 14:05

I've never had it. I don't go to many places anyway. I do have a smartphone but I really just use it as a landline.

MissyB1 · 09/07/2021 14:05

Nope neither me or dh (a hospital Dr) have it. We give our name and number if we are asked anywhere.

Parttimemostofthetime · 09/07/2021 14:07

I've never had it. I've only been somewhere where they ask you to sign in twice and both times I just pretended to

colourchanginglipstick · 09/07/2021 14:10

I don't have it. I don't go anywhere where I need to give details (or indeed, inside any shops/restaurants/indoor places), and don't want to take the chance of a false alert because it's picked up a neighbour for instance.

Hallyup6 · 09/07/2021 14:13

I never downloaded it. Never given my real phone number either.

FlyingBattie · 09/07/2021 14:14

I had it, brought a new phone and then it didn't work on the brand new phone, so I deleted it.
If they don't want to make it accessible, what can we do?

Blowingagale · 09/07/2021 14:20

I had it but my Bluetooth isn’t on all the time it was pointless. If I put it on phone drained quickly. It’s more important to me to have a phone I can use. I sign in everywhere and have used company scan (I think Costa had one).

newnortherner111 · 09/07/2021 14:23

I haven't, just give phone number if asked at a pub or restaurant or somewhere else. Don't always have my phone with me as it is a work one.

nanbread · 09/07/2021 14:24

I have it to check into venues but have contact tracing paused.

I hear they are changing the app to make it less sensitive so far fewer people get pinged..

TwoLeftElbows · 09/07/2021 14:24

I'm really careful and follow all the rules, always leave my details etc but I don't have the app. I think it's too inclined to generate false positives, when you're within 2m of someone but there's a plastic divider or even a wall in the way. And there usually is now, when you get within 2m of someone for more than a few seconds.

Lamentations · 09/07/2021 14:25

There was no way I was ever downloading it. I saw plenty of people use it as a convenient way of getting repeated paid periods of time off work though.

millymollymoomoo · 09/07/2021 14:25

Never did never will

nanbread · 09/07/2021 14:25

@Parttimemostofthetime

Why?
edwinbear · 09/07/2021 14:25

Never had it, quite deliberately. I 'check in' to places when required and would obviously comply with a self isolation call from T&T, but there was no way I was prepared to be told to self isolate, because my phone had potentially crossed paths with another phone in Sainsburys.

Earwigworries · 09/07/2021 14:26

Didn’t download - phone too old , battery drains too quick and I can’t justify a replacement . I always give accurate details when asked - but I’ve been out a handful of times where that’s been needed. My life is mostly school run and supermarket and doing stuff outside anyway

Lamentations · 09/07/2021 14:26

Imagine if all the NHS and other frontline workers had downloaded it. Who would have worked in the hospitals?

BaronessOfTheNorth · 09/07/2021 14:31

I downloaded it and swiftly deleted it once the barrage of "you have been a close contact you must isolate" followed up by "you do not need to isolate" 10 minutes later messages began.

KurtWilde · 09/07/2021 14:32

I never had it either and I'm not about to get it now.

spinningspaniels · 09/07/2021 14:32

Nope, never intended to download it.

We were contacted by track and trace after 2 colleagues tested positive. We shut our entire business for 2 weeks (at massive cost) and had to stay isolated at home over christmas and new year. And we were frankly hounded by track and trace.

There was no chance I was going to download the app as where we work is on a massive industrial estate and near a large college.

HotelCalifornia88 · 09/07/2021 14:35

@Cavalierqueen

We have a great app where I live. Yes it does drain the battery but just charge more often. Without gold status showing you are vaccinated, or green showing you are clear if you can't be vaccinated, you can't enter shopping malls or any public area. Vaccine refuses have to have a PCR less than 7 days old, also in the app. I don't get the fuss if the app is good, but then I also don't believe I will be a robot when 5g kicks in 😂
This has honestly sent a chill down my spine. We have sleepwalked into a two-tier society for a virus which 98% of the population suffer as a sniffle.
Wanttocry · 09/07/2021 14:37

@HotelCalifornia88 I know, hideous isn’t it.
