To say that God is a raging misogyinist?

disclaimer - not religious and this is lighthearted.

I don't have periods as badly as many women. I used to struggle a lot in my teens, they'd make me throw up at school and all sorts.

Then I discovered the depo injection and was on it for close on 10 years. No periods at all. Came off as I didn't really think I was the one who should be pumping hormones into my body, then when periods eventually came back, the mess and discomfort was just not something I wanted to deal with, so had one dose before Covid hit and been off it since.

I don't really get PMT, I don't get floods, I don't get javelin arse (any more) so I should count myself lucky really Hmm

BUT I seem to spend my life worrying about my period. I'm either on, and wondering if I'm going to leak. I'm either at or near the end, and wondering whether it's safe to stay off the tampons or if I'll have a 'second wind' (periods now very unpredictable). I have a blissful few days a month when one has finished before the next one is due-ish (they're erratic and no regular cycle) so another week or so of stress worrying I'll be caught short when out and about.

I've just come on today. That's a cycle of 67 days. 67! It's not as good as you think, because I've spent most of that time remembering to shove tissue in my pants on the off chance I'll come on and remembering to pack tampons every single time I leave the house.

So I've decided 'God' is a raging misogynist. He wouldn't make a man bleed (randomly for me) unpredictably and erratically and messily and leave them on tenterhooks for the next one. Surely, in all his infinite wisdom, he could have come up with a better reproductive system??

I don't understand how evolution has not made the woman the superior sex. Pain tolerance, bullshit tolerance and general tiger like instincts when parenting. How can this intellect not be the powerful sex? To be fair, after a few years in India and many years in the middle east, it's clear who rules the family. In many ways the man is the wage earner and is ruled with a rod of iron 😂

Cavalierqueen · 09/07/2021 13:52

I didn't mean superior, I meant stronger

Cavalierqueen · 09/07/2021 13:53

But that all goes out of the window with peri menopause. Who the actual fuck came up with that?

TheMarzipanDildo · 09/07/2021 14:05

@TheVolturi

If God does not exist, how are we here? When you need two full grown humans to reproduce 🤔. I can never get my head around this.
Evolution! We started as micro-organisms, not full grown humans. The mammals that got together to create the first “human” would have been very close to, but not quite, human. And then a mutation happened and a human was born.

Anyway yeah if God does exist I think he’s massively unpleasant

pointythings · 09/07/2021 14:06

And this why I'm an atheist. I mean, when it comes to reproduction, marsupials have it nailed. If God existed and was perfect, we'd be marsupials.

TheMarzipanDildo · 09/07/2021 14:07

I’ve had those thoughts too Sad

Fucking unbearable pain.

TheMarzipanDildo · 09/07/2021 14:07

Sorry meant to quote BashfulClam then

Evolution! We didn't start off as humans, everything started as microscopic organisms that wriggled and jiggled and had lots of microscopic organisms sex which made all sorts of different types of creatures depending on the conditions they were trying to live in.

I think most likely the organisms came from another planet - but I'm not entirely sure how life started in the first place. That's what blows my mind.

@AlternativePerspective

The pain of childbirth and periods was the punishment which God inflicted on womankind because Eve ate from the forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden.

Or so the Old Testament says.

So even if you did believe in a God, you couldn’t not think that he was a misogynist.

I remember reading this when I was about 20, at university. I was studying philosophy, including philosophy of religion. So I started reading the bible. I was gobsmacked that women's pain was described as punishment from God. It explains so much about the denigration of women's rights by religion institutions. The Bible literally says we deserve pain and brought it on ourselves.
IntothePitt · 09/08/2021 18:20

Definitely

ErrolTheDragon · 09/08/2021 18:26

I was gobsmacked that women's pain was described as punishment from God.

And get this, it was punishment for something she'd done before she had any knowledge of good and evil.

Misogynist bastard, that god. Most of them are. Of course they're all man-made.

PastStudentExeterPGCE · 09/08/2021 18:34

Would highly recommend that anybody on this thread who is interested in women’s pain, and how it is handled (and basically how nobody cares about it), should read Pain and Prejudice by Gabrielle Jackson. Fantastic book.

Basically, it all boils down to: women live longer, yes… but they have much poorer quality lives due to pain.

I’m a Christian but periods is one the things I’d like to ask God about when I meet Him. A bit weird and v troublesome! I know other animals have periods too - but it is odd that you don’t seem to notice it that much when you go to a zoo or on nature programs.

I found a really interesting Bbc article on why it might have evolved - trigger warning though (as it does go into miscarriage and things). www.bbc.co.uk/earth/story/20150420-why-do-women-have-periods

You’ll have a long wait!

OhGiveUp · 09/08/2021 19:26

See, if I was God ( which is just dog spelt backwards ) it would work like this......
At the age of 15 we would start our periods. Periods would be completely painless and just consist of a little light spotting once every three months.
They would then stop, painlessly at 45.
Labour would be nothing more than a twinge of pain and would last no more than 3 hours. Pushing would consist of a couple of light pushes and baby would be born effortlessly.
Within 24 hours, everything would snap back into shape and there would be no pain or after effects.
Babies would sleep solidly between the hours of 20.00 and 07.00.

Another controversial zombie thread resurrected by @IntothePitt

ErrolTheDragon · 09/08/2021 19:38

A month old is hardly a zombie thread.Confused

PerseverancePays · 09/08/2021 19:46

It seems a mix up between evolution and God, both quite separate things. From an evolutionary POV women seem to get the short stick. From a religious POV it is entirely designed for the edification of men and the subjugation of women, without fail.

Zelvinka · 09/08/2021 19:58

Sorry I misread @ErrolTheDragon thought it was started in January.

However the poster concerned has restarted two other controversial old threads tonight one regarding David Cameron from 2015.

I can't think of a possible reasonable explanation.

Panickingpavlova · 10/08/2021 12:49

God is a man made construct tweaked to keep women under the kossh.

KeflavikAirport · 10/08/2021 12:54

it must have been like if you were a nomad hunter-gatherer, having to walk miles and miles all the time, and not even a comfy bed at the end of it

millions of women all over the world still live like this today, walking miles and miles for water every day without a memory foam mattress waiting for them at home.

Acarp · 10/08/2021 16:24

@Meraas

Came off as I didn't really think I was the one who should be pumping hormones into my body,

So who should? Confused

If you don't want periods, you deal with it, it's no one else's problem.

Well this was kind of why I took the piss of God

If you don't believe in God then why offend those of us who do?

So sick of the relentless targeting of religious people on MN.

Just because you don't believe in God, doesn't mean you can't criticise the idea of him.
