To love the "feeling" of losing weight

anappleadaykeeps · 08/07/2021 23:50

I am finally managing to lose weight, and I love how it feels. My jeans are looser, and I am actually needing to use a belt now to keep them from falling below my waist. But my FAVOURITE bit is how my skin feels. There are ridges of lumpiness (reducing fat?) under my skin .... first just on my thighs and upper legs, but now on my upper arms too, and tummy and underarms.

I'm 5 ft 3, aged 50, and used to always be around 9 to 9.5 stone. But a really stressful divorce about 5 years ago left me on anti depressants, and the weight just steadily increased up to about 12.5 stone. I tried but got nowhere in trying to lose weight whilst still on the antidepressants (Venlafaxine). But I managed to drop down to a minimal dose (37.5mg/day) in February this year, and a few months later, finally sensible eating and portion control is starting to help shift 1 to 2 pounds a week.

Has anyone else experienced this lumpiness feel? It is really weird, but I am fascinated by it.

I've still got several cases of "size 12" clothes under my bed, which would be amazing to fit again .... although part of me, if I really manage to drop down to a 12 or 14 again (currently a 16), wants to treat myself to a shopping trip for some new styles.

Congratulations. They say nothing tastes as good as slim feels.

readingismycardio · 09/07/2021 05:11

Me too! Trying to lose 5 kg, first one gone! I just went on the scales! Wohoohooo!

cittigirl · 09/07/2021 05:38

The lumpy feel is likely to be stretch marks. Well done on losing weight.

birthdayboris · 09/07/2021 05:52

I'm enjoying this too- my clothes are loose and I've gone down two bra sizes in the back.
I can feel my ribs under my skin. I've been working at it for ages but it only seems obvious to everyone in the last few weeks. It's like you reach a tipping point where it suddenly looks different.
Well done OP

xksismybestletter · 09/07/2021 05:58

How much have you lost @birthdayboris? I've lost nearly 7lb and noone seems to have noticed - even DH!

Worldgonecrazy · 09/07/2021 06:13

Well done!

Feeling healthy can get a bit addictive. I’m over 50 and still love the feeling of strength and muscle. I used to be a size 16/18. Now a fit and strong size 8/10.

Nothing tastes as good as healthy and strong feels Grin

Evergibbon · 09/07/2021 06:34

Ha ha I don't get that feeling but I can always tell on a diet when I'm being good and losing weight. I get a kind of feeling when I'm in bed. Not hunger, but I've labelled it as " eating myself" as if I can feel the fat coming off....

I know its weird .... people are 😱😱😱

StarryNight468 · 09/07/2021 06:47

@Evergibbon I say it's my stomach eating myself.

Emmylou1985 · 09/07/2021 06:58

Yep, I love it. I lost 4.5 stone before getting pregnant in 2011 and then piled it all back on. I finally stuck with my diet again in October last year and have lost 3 stone so far. Down from a 16 to a 10 and I feel fucking fabulous. I still have a bit to lose (I'm currently 5'3" and 10st) because I still have rolls of flab, but I do enjoy prodding them and seeing how much less of my fingers disappear 😂

Lemons1571 · 09/07/2021 06:59

@anappleadaykeeps I have the lumpiness! Rice pudding feeling under my arms in particular. It’s most odd. Sadly my boobs are also disappearing.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 09/07/2021 07:04

It's a good thing, it's the fat breaking down, it goes kind of extra squishy and lumpy.

Drink loads and loads of water as the process of breaking down fat uses water up.

Pitmanshorthand · 09/07/2021 07:29

Yes I love the lumpiness feeling too. I also love feeling my hip bones and soft belly. Well done on your weight loss 👍🙂

Snufkin2 · 09/07/2021 07:30

I know what you mean. I've been celebrating this week because I'm finally overweight rather than obese for the first time in as long as I can remember. Weight crept up over decades but ballooned during lock down and I finally took myself in hand after seeing photos of myself at 50th birthday this year. Portion control, not having 2nds (and 3rds!) for the first time rather than expecting the weight to miraculously fall off by itself, and exercising. I've now lost 17kg (about 37lb) and am loving the feeling of all my clothes fitting / being loose and not being knackered walking up a hill. Also people starting to notice. I've still a long way to go to be in the healthy weight range though - another 14kg.

lifehappened · 09/07/2021 08:41

Literally just felt like this this morning. I felt skinny (I'm not im just average now with a healthy BMI) but when I realised how much I've lost today I suddenly feel tiny. Defo gonna celebrate with a burger now I know how to moderate haha

MorrisZapp · 09/07/2021 08:46

It's just the best thing ever isn't it? I lost weight a couple of years ago and it was the best fun I've ever had. Every Saturday I would try stuff on and realise I could actually wear stuff that I'd written off.

My deflating boobs were hilarious. I went down three bra sizes. Empty bra cups were not something I thought I'd ever experience in this lifetime :)

HaroldTheHare · 09/07/2021 09:12

It's a great feeling! Since last winter I've lost 1.5 stones & have another stone to go though realistically if I lose another 7 or 8 lbs I'll be happy
I've stalled & maintained at 1.5 though for the past 3 or 4 mths.
I haven't gained so that's a plus
I recently lost another 3lbs & am determined to keep going as some clothes are still tight & I want to be able to wear them.

Webbedlife · 09/07/2021 10:00

I was 2st heavier a couple of years ago. Getting Covid and lockdown made me lose about 10lb. The rest was from dieting as I could see my weight starting to rebound after a while and I didn't want to go back there. I'm now overweight after being obese for many years. I do like grabbing my lumpy bit, it's oddly comforting. The best thing of all was that I frequently suffered foot pain after being on my feet for a while and that has almost completely disappeared.

Carboholic · 09/07/2021 10:15

I checked my BMI this morning and I’m back in the “normal” range. Woo-hoo!!

I love that clothes fit and look nice again, and I feel like I’m on a shopping spree in my own closet.

Lost 5.5kg so far since Christmas, would like another 5 which would get me into my pre-pregnancy, pre-Covid clothes. I feel great and so proud.

Need to urgently change my username Grin

AdaFuckingShelby · 09/07/2021 10:20

Completely understand how you feel about weight loss. I'm currently losing weight and can feel my ribs. Also I am getting rid of that feeling if there being a load of padding round my middle when I bend forward. It's fab. I ran up the stairs earlier and felt light not sluggish and heavy. It's liberating!

beigebrownblue · 09/07/2021 10:33

This is inspiring thanks.
I haven't crossed the bridge yet of putting a plan together, but I will.

CoalTit · 09/07/2021 10:48

This fellow explaining where the fat goes when you lose weight is very entertaining and inspiring

znaika · 09/07/2021 10:52

It's that leaner more vital feeling. Running up sets of stairs two at a time and finding it so easy without the weight, like doing it without having to wear a ginormous backpack.

a8mint · 09/07/2021 10:53

Well done you!! Smile

Ponoka7 · 09/07/2021 10:59

I'm 53, lost four stone before lock down and had an appointment with my Consultant. I have complex issues. She felt the lumps that you are describing and said that they are pockets of fat in cells. The body stores them, sometimes for years. Water intake is the key and continuing eating well. Lower carb and dairy is recommended post menopause.

I put weight back on and I've just shifted half a stone. I'm noticing the difference when standing up and walking up the stairs. I can move again.

Pinkycheeks · 09/07/2021 11:00

Inspiring! Thanks for starting this thread! Flowers
