To ask how much you pay for Gas & electric combined

As the title says really.

Taken back by the fact our estimated gas & electric usage and therefore recommended monthly payment actually turns out to be a quarter of what we're using.

Either the energy company have really underestimated - deliberately?! To make it seem cheap? OR something we're doing is going really very wrong!

4 bed house in the SE (if that makes any difference?)

According to our usage it's around £200 a month combined for gas and electric?

The people paying more don't have cold houses in winter, have worse insulation, a boiler that is more expensive to run, use the tumble dryer a lot, the variables are endless.

Meruem it is likely that the same amount of fuel will cost less if you switch to normal bills, and you'll have the advantage of smoothing your energy cost across the year, but there's a risk that you'll use more because you can put the heating on without having to see the money get used up before your eyes on your prepay meter.

£56 per month 3 bed bungalow just me

3 bed semi detached in Scotland - about £50 a month. Pay £73 DD and always in about £200-£250 credit at end of year. Use Octopus energy and have always stuck with them for years now as they are always cheapest and very easy to withdraw any extra credit in account if I wanted to. You can get £50 credit by switching to them using the below link if you’d like.

4bed semi south west. £120a month for electricity but we have an EV and a hybrid. No gas and about £60-80 a month oil except in the depths of winter when it's more.

exybusiness · 09/07/2021 10:54

2 adults, £85 a month.
We don't use the heating a lot which keeps our bills down.

I live in a three bedroom terraced house, two adults and one baby. I have electricity only so no gas, and I pay £70 a month.

Conchitastrawberry · 09/07/2021 11:01

Large 5 bed house. 3 room annexe. 4 people £300 per month gas and electric. Its massively depends on what you are using. We have 2 fish ponds, 2 aquariums, a hot tub that stays on all year round etc.

Wambamincorrectlyinstalledfan · 09/07/2021 11:06

You should be getting quarterly bills unless you opted for six monthly or yearly?
Unit price will be on your bill to be honest unit price isn’t massively different between suppliers. Most suppliers also have the option to add a reading online and check if you’re in credit or debit

You can move supplier but will need to pay the debt first.

We had this, estimated £70 a month which I think was to draw us in , then quickly changed it to £140 a month. Reality is more like £120 a month as we were in credit of £160 after 12 months. 4 bed semi with 5 people (but 3 kids spend 40% of their time at their dads).

notacooldad · 09/07/2021 11:12

Combined payment of £87 per month and we are currently in credit.
2 adults who wfh last year plus young adult son and another that comes here 3 mornings a week for a shower!

Appletreehat · 09/07/2021 11:30

£98 per month

Baker90 · 09/07/2021 12:01

SE 3 bed. 2 adults, tween and toddler. 170 a month but clearing debt from underestimation on their part. So should be £135.

Fuckitfuckit · 09/07/2021 12:11

3 bed semi, with solar panels, using £180pm gas and electric.
Or had been, I'm trying to get our usage down to about £120 pm.
