To ask how much you pay for Gas & electric combined

dopeyduck · 08/07/2021 22:17

As the title says really.

Taken back by the fact our estimated gas & electric usage and therefore recommended monthly payment actually turns out to be a quarter of what we're using.

Either the energy company have really underestimated - deliberately?! To make it seem cheap? OR something we're doing is going really very wrong!

4 bed house in the SE (if that makes any difference?)

According to our usage it's around £200 a month combined for gas and electric?

£270 a month averaged over the year. Big old house plus electric car and hot tub. In our last house (new build 4 bed) it was £80.

Both adults WFH

userxx · 08/07/2021 22:45

@dementedpixie I'm considering octopus. I take it you haven't got a smart meter if you submit the reading, is it easy to do?

bravotango · 08/07/2021 22:47

2 adults WFH in North West, £65 per month.

dementedpixie · 08/07/2021 22:50

I submit the reading on their app and then within minutes you get an up to date balance and it shows what gas and electric you have used. I think they also offer smart meters if you wanted them.

They have a referral offer where the new customer and the person referring gets £50 off their bill so if you go with them get a link from someone first

Large house in SE London. Freezing in winter. 2x adults 2 children. DH has long showers.
We were paying £300/month - crept up over past 6 months.
Checked account and are over £1000 in credit so have dropped our payments to £100/month.
May have a shortfall come winter and will need to increase payments but I’d rather in the meantime the money was in my account than in theirs.

NotMyCat · 08/07/2021 22:51

2 bed apartment, 1 person
At the minute about £30pm electric and £10pm gas so £40, usually gas goes up in winter and it comes in around £65

MrsT1983 · 08/07/2021 22:52

Ours is £160 a month average. 2 adults WFH and 2 toddlers, big 4 bed mid-terrace with 3 floors. We have a smart meter so I do track our energy use, it seems to be the smart tv’s being on all day that really pushes the electric use up I’ve noticed.

ChocolateCakeYum · 08/07/2021 22:52

Family of 3, Edwardian house, 3 beds, 3 floors. It costs £90 a month combined.

mydailymailhell · 08/07/2021 22:55

Letsplough · 08/07/2021 23:02

£92.50 a month, two bed semi, 2 adults 2 kids

chesteroo · 08/07/2021 23:03

Was averaging £125 a month on pre pay electric alone. Daughter and boyfriend moved out last month with their reptile collection and it's dropped to £50!

SeenYourArse · 08/07/2021 23:07

GoBrookeYourself · 08/07/2021 23:09

4 bed detached and about £125 a month gas and electric. We have solar panels and get about £700 a year back from this.

Smarshian · 08/07/2021 23:10

4 bed detached (new build), 2 adults, 2 kids and a cat. I WFH. £77/month

Mooloolabababy · 08/07/2021 23:10

Ooh, we've just been stung op. I was paying £145 a month for gas and electricity combined, stupidly didn't read my meter for the last 18 months (yes, very stupid) they gave me an estimate of the monthly amount we were paying based on the last reading I gave, I thought that it would even itself out between summer under usage and winter over usage. Ive just changed supplier and been landed with a £860 bill for under payment based on my meter readings Shock
So therefore I was under paying by nearly £50 per month. So my monthly payments are estimated to now be £191 per month for gas and electricity combined, which I think is crazy!!! No one I know pays that much!
We are in an old 3 bed semi, 2 adults, 2 children and no gas fires (open fire and log burner)

WaitinginVain · 08/07/2021 23:11

Old, draughty house, not possible to insulate anywhere - currently £300 per month.

Happycow · 08/07/2021 23:20

Wow, £95 a month here for 2 adults 2 young kids.... and i thought that was high!

redandwhite1 · 08/07/2021 23:21

3 bed, 2 adults 1 child £79
Water £57 (not metered)

cinders15 · 08/07/2021 23:37

3 adults started at 150 for gas and electric combined now gone up to 200 pm
North west london

FeelingVfrustrated · 08/07/2021 23:41

SW London, 2 bed,old Victorian so not the best insulation (mostly single glazed windows 😬) but £59 a month. And we only pay for what we use so if there’s any left over at the end of the month, It just adds up thankfully
