AIBU to never eat a banana properly in the office?

I would never just eat a banana by biting chunks from the whole fruit (which is how I would eat it at home)? I would always break a chunk off and eat it. As if taking a bite is too.... rude, suggestive?

Am I weird?

YABU: you are an overthinking weirdo for changing how you eat a banana in the office
YANBU: we all adjust how we eat bananas in case we come across like the women in the old Flake adverts

@UnwantedGain

I was eating a banana once, in my twenties. A man came over and said ‘I love watching women eat bananas’ So yanbu. There are some weird men out there.
I had to sternly ask a colleague to let me eat my banana in peace as I looked up to find that he was waggling his eyebrows and grinning suggestively at me. Like, wtf Dave, I’m eating my lunch! He was quite embarrassed afterwards and I stopped eating bananas at work.

I have just eaten a banana sitting on the side of my bed using the laptop, and one of my cats was curled up fast asleep right near me. As soon as I peeled a bit of banana skin down, my cat leapt up, and moved to the bottom of my bed. I don't know if she didn't like the banana smell,or if I was eating in incorrectly, but something upset her snoozing. I just bite little pieces off as I go along, and for some reason, I usually l

oops. I usually leave the end bit, in case it's a bit mushy, or gone brown

When i was in the army many many moons ago the troop Staff Sergeant bought a flake for all the women in the troop (so 5 out of about 30) and of course they all thought it hilarious to watch us eat them... sigh

So we got together and bought them all Creme Eggs. Grin

@Lochroy

Bananas stink and it should be socially unacceptable to eat any fruit in a public place which leaves behind a skin or core to fester.
That's pretty much all fruit, then?

No bananas (skin)
No apples or pears (core)
No peaches, nectarines, plums, damsons or greengages (stones)
No cherries (stones)
No strawberries (calyx)
No kiwi (skin for 99% of the population)
No grapes (stalk and sometimes pips)
No oranges, tangerines, satsumas, kumquats or other citrus fruit (peel and pith, plus pips)
No melon (skin and seeds)
No pomegranates or passion fruit (skins)

And everything else except for possibly raspberries, blackberries and blueberries and kiwiberries if they're available this year. I suppose if you actually mean that people should buy the little plastic pots with the plastic forks for fruit consumption outside the home, that would suffice to meet your needs, but then you've got yet more single use plastic all sticky in the bin.

If it was me I'd specifically try to do it while holding eye contact with people to make them uncomfortable.

One of the major benefits of wfh is never having to be in the vicinity of someone eating a banana 🤮

YANBU - a guy once offered me £10 to watch me eat a cream cake. I declined (but only because I didn't like the look of the cake)

HerbalEssences · 10/07/2021 18:22

Who cares what men think! They would still eat a banana normally. It is when women stop eating bananas normally, that it then becomes an issue. If everyone just are their bananas normally, no one would question it. How do you eat a hotdog in a bun? Or an ice cream....? The men who think silly things, will do so regardless - don't let it affect your life!

pontiouspilates · 10/07/2021 18:23

I also break mine up in public, but had never thought about why!

Sympathies with OP here.As part of the research as a freelancer for an article on the monastic life I went to interview an order of Benedictine monks. My train was late so I arrived in the middle of supper and was ushered through a silent but full refectory to sit at the high table next to the abbot. On my plate lay an unsheathed banana. I wimped out and sliced it up!
