To think it can’t be this hard to find Mascarpone?!

Help please!
I’ve looked in Sainsbury’s and Waitrose in both cheese and cream sections and no joy. There’s never any staff to ask!
Any suggestions please to help my craving!!

I can get mascarpone in all those supermarkets locally. Weird Sainsbury’s and Waitrose don’t have it. In a tub next to ricotta and mozzarella usually.

Jumpingintosummer · 06/07/2021 21:31

M&S near the feta and ricotta.
They also sell pudding rice.

rosalindwi · 06/07/2021 21:37

What exactly is it?

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 06/07/2021 21:39

Lidl’s is lovely (I’ve got a couple in the freezer in case the Tiramisu cravings hit lol). Better than Sainsbury’s.

So interested to see this thread - I'm in Ireland and can't find it anywhere for the last 2 weeks!

Usually available in various brands in all the supermarkets. I didn't realise it was a wider issue.

idontlikealdi · 06/07/2021 21:54

I couldn't get it in Waitrose or tesco when I looked at the weekend.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 06/07/2021 21:58

Cress. I’ve struggled to buy cress.

rantymcrantface66 · 06/07/2021 22:02

I've killed every house plant I've ever owned but even I can grow cress in a couple of days 😆

Mummyneedsacoffee · 06/07/2021 22:03

Tesco and Aldi!!

I had some with pasta today! Delicious!

PurpleHoodie · 06/07/2021 22:05

Brexit.

SkiingIsHeaven · 06/07/2021 22:06

We normally get it from Aldi or Tesco

WaltzingToWalsingham · 06/07/2021 22:10

@ShowOfHands in my local Sainsburys, the pudding rice is hidden in the Home Baking aisle (ie not with the other types of rice). Look for the tinned rice pudding and jellies, and you will probably see pudding rice very close by, along with things like tapioca, rice flour and trifle sponges.

WaltzingToWalsingham · 06/07/2021 22:16

@JayAlfredPrufrock Cress seeds are your friend here. Take some dampened cotton wool or kitchen towel, place it in a clean bowl, and scatter cress seeds thinly over it. Put the bowl in a sandwich bag (or cover with cling film) so it doesn't dry out too quickly. Leave in a bright room, and in a few days you'll have a miniature cress meadow. If you repeat this process every few days, you'll always have a new meadow to harvest when you've finished the last one.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 06/07/2021 22:24

Lol. Used to do that at school. I really should start again.

DreamingOfTheSouthOfFrance · 06/07/2021 23:25

@ShowOfHands pudding rice in our co-op (Yorkshire) in boxes near pudding stuff like custard.

Emmelina · 07/07/2021 00:10

I bought some in Sainsbury’s last weekend. They only had one type so we had to search a bit!

ineedaholidaynow · 07/07/2021 00:14

@fussychica that’s what we use mascarpone for. Can get it in our Waitrose

ichundich · 07/07/2021 04:45

@ShowOfHands

I've tried every Tesco, Morrisons, Aldi and Sainsbury in a 30 mile radius. No pudding rice. Which aisle are you finding it on?
You can use risotto rice instead.
mateysmum · 07/07/2021 09:54

@ShowofHands

In our Tesco, the pudding rice is hidden on the bottom shelf in the aisle with the tinned fruit/custard/meringues/pastry cases etc.

3scape · 07/07/2021 09:56

Tesco have it again but there was a supply issue recently.

sueelleker · 07/07/2021 10:33

Did you check with the continental cheeses? It's usually with the ricotta and mozzarella.

LindaEllen · 07/07/2021 10:40

In my Tesco, it's not actually in the cheese aisle with the rest of the cheese, it's on the end of an aisle - maybe check what's at the end. Also have a look online, if it says they stock it for home delivery you're probably just missing it.
