AIBU to get a tattoo?

blaisealex · 06/07/2021 17:12

It would be my first ever tattoo. And on the basis England win the Euros.

Something like,

"IT'S COMING HOME
EURO 2020".

Something along those lines. AIBU?

@cardibach This english woman hears you. When I lived in Cardiff City centre it was always the English football fans.

Spaceprincess · 06/07/2021 21:48

Ooh get it on your arse!
Perfect ice breaker at parties!

TiddyAndFletch · 06/07/2021 21:52

Personally, I would never do anything irrevocable to my body. Or at least, not irrevocable without pain and expense.

Suppose (for the sake of argument) one of the present England team was later convicted of a terrible crime, and the England 2021 team became something unmentionable?

goddessofmischief · 06/07/2021 22:29

On your forehead. In capital letters. You've clearly thought this through very carefully over a long period of time. Go big or go home. Maybe they will too Grin

PhilSwagielka · 06/07/2021 22:49

Any Italians/Danes on here reading this thread?

PhilSwagielka · 06/07/2021 22:50

@cardibach

Well, it won’t make sense, will it? Assuming by ‘it’s coming home’ you are referring to the cup, if they w8n it will have come home. Though that whole idea is ridiculous anyway and not what the song was about… Nobody IBU to get a tattoo, but everyone IBU to get a tattoo with so little thought or of something which will date so fast. If you want a tattoo, get one. If it’s conditional on what happens when a few millionaires kick a bag of air about then you don’t actually want one.
Exactly! That song has the line 'football's coming home' because Euro '96, for which Three Lions was written, took place in England. That's all it is. That was the Euro '96 slogan.
HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 06/07/2021 22:52

YANBU. Get it on your chest, then you can skid on your knees with your shirt over your head, screaming it's coming home.

EdgeOfACoin · 06/07/2021 22:59

I think it had a double meaning. Euro '96 took place in England and after 30 years of hurt, the trophy would come home.

Anyway, OP, if you're over 18, you're free to get whatever tattoo you like. But if it's a decision you need to ask strangers on Mumsnet about, I'd think it through very carefully...

ViciousJackdaw · 07/07/2021 00:19

I don't think your suggestion really captures the essence of the beautiful game. How about a portrait of Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling, shirtless in celebration? Add a St George flag underneath and be sure to have any text done in a thick Olde English font.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 07/07/2021 00:25

Euro's 2020? I thought it was the world Cup finals!!

How about a tattoo that says 'canapés on the terrace, crab and warm nuts'

Saoirse82 · 07/07/2021 00:27

I have 7 tattoos and 4 of them I hate so I wouldn't recommend ever getting one and the only reason I don't hate the other 3 is because they are always hidden. I think inevitably most people regret theirs. If you're going ahead with it just get it somewhere where its not on show much.

DannyNedelko · 07/07/2021 00:42

'It came home’?

GenericUsername404 · 07/07/2021 00:46

Wouldn’t “it’s come home” make more sense if you’re not planning to get it done until after they win? Even if you were to get it before wouldn’t have to change it after they won?

CirqueDeMorgue · 07/07/2021 00:47

Yanbu but only if you get it on your butt.

Palavah · 07/07/2021 00:56

I wouldn't get one at all if they didn't win.

Huh, Gloryhunter.

where should I get it done?

Monster Ink in Clacton.

dayslikethese1 · 07/07/2021 01:05

Is this a joke post? I can't tell Grin

HollaHolla · 07/07/2021 01:10

Tribe tattoos in Edinburgh. They’d love to do that one for you.
CorianderBee · 07/07/2021 01:11

As someone with one tattoo. Don't get one.

  1. that's a stupid fucking tattoo
  2. at least wait until we win
  3. it really really hurts
CorianderBee · 07/07/2021 01:12

Why2020? It didn't come home in 2020?

Benvolio · 07/07/2021 01:13

Just don't. I nursed ancient old sailors, and if their WW2 tats seemed irrelevant and sad to people who didn't know what they meant 60 years on, imagine how your flash in the pan football nonsense will seem.

MrsEricBana · 07/07/2021 01:21

Directly on your brain. Might prick some sense into you then
🤣🤣

Years ago dd was given a teddy with the particular year embroidered on its foot. This dated poor teddy. Teddy is now ddog's "girlfriend". Just saying...

BritWifeInUSA · 07/07/2021 04:35

YANBU to get a tattoo but really have a good think about what you want on your Jody for the rest of your life.

Why “it’s coming home”? Did it ever leave home? Hasn’t England always had football?

BlaBlaSmthSmth · 07/07/2021 07:03

@HopeYourHighHorseBucks

YANBU. Get it on your chest, then you can skid on your knees with your shirt over your head, screaming it's coming home.
This is my favourite suggestion 😁
blaisealex · 07/07/2021 22:45
