Seriously? £86 for family entry?

This is for a visit to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park for 2 adults and 2 children.

I mean, who can afford £86 on tickets? That’s before you’ve factored in petrol, extortionate icecreams / coffees and no doubt a huge gift shop that you are forced to exit through with kids.

We are professionals on decent enough wages - we’re not rolling in it but we are doing ok. But that is truly beyond our reach for a single day out!

I’m thinking too of all the lower income families that I work with every day as a primary school teacher, for whom this couldn’t even be a consideration. Yorkshire children who don’t have a hope in hell of ever going to Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

AIBU to think that it’s really too much?

@Helloandhelloagain I am a fellow stain on society too- we can cause utter chaos in YWP if we ever go, end up on show in the tiger enclosure 😂

its more than fair!!

@EmeraldShamrock

The snobbery is cringeworthy.
Not sure who this is aimed at (unless it is general) but I am only joking - I'm the furthest thing from a snob and definitely don't belong on Mumsnet never mind in YWP judging by their prices Grin

Me too and a realist. Grin

The snobbery??? I live on the South Coast and am more than happy to go t'up North. Everything is so much cheaper for some reason.

SD1978 · 11/07/2021 02:58

We are in Australia, and the prices over here are even more bloody ridiculous. I agree that many families are priced out of the ability to go places, and I don't think it's fair. Children's experiences are curtailed with this. I wish there was a scheme whereby parents on a certain income gain entry for a more reasonable price, to ensure we try to decrease the gap there is between kids that can and can't go to see things.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 11/07/2021 04:46

Can I just say I would happily pay £50 or even £90 NOT to ride on a zipwire?

These places are missing a trick....

🤣

@Minniem2020

Edinburgh Zoo is really expensive and I've seen more animals in my back garden than I did the last time I went there.
Gosh who are you? Joe exotic? Or do you just have a lot of pigeons and snails? Because, you know, that's not really the same 😆
Drovememad · 12/07/2021 08:27

Our local farm is £22 for four hours! Anyone over 2 pays.

I think yours sounds better value.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/07/2021 08:29

On the back of this thread, I've booked to go to YWP alone. Without children, as my pre summer holidays treat. It was either that or shopping.

We do have season tickets though.

(If you think the tickets are expensive, don't look at the Experiences or Ranger school...)

@CupOfTPlease

We looked at Paultons Park and those prices have snot up.

DS would be free but it would be £80+ for me and DP to walk around Peppa Pig world!

To be fair, Paulton’s Park is a lot more than Peppa Pig World. PPW is less than 1/6 of what’s available. The whole park is a full day out and is immaculate and beautiful. There are lots of rides for all ages but also things like playparks and water parks which offer a chance for you to catch your breath. There are lovely lawns and picnic areas. You can bring your own food and their food isn’t so expensive. It’s not ‘corporate’- there’s no McDonald’s or anything like that, and there’s no feeling that they’re trying to scalp every penny from you. We used to have season tickets when my kids were little and they were worth every penny. It’s a proper ‘family’ theme park suitable for families with kids up to about 10 but also somewhere you can go with grandparents and be confident that everyone will have a nice time. I’d take a day there over a day at Disneyland any time.
