To say you're all wrong about Aldi?

Just that really, I've nipped into Aldi in the past for the odd loaf and picked up a few bits. DP and I discussed and decided to do the 'big' shop there last week.

It's been a disaster, to start with I couldn't find fruit or veg with more than a couple of days shelf life on them and everything I've substituted so far has been either underwhelming or disgusting (1/4 pounders filled with gristle) 🤮 with a couple of exceptions (salmon Wellington, sliced ham) the bread was mouldy the next day and still had 2 days on the use by. The nappies are just awful.

I spent £219 on Friday last week and I've since been out and spent another 150 and will likely need more before the next "big shop" on Friday.

@coulditbecominghome

I shop at Lidl, Aldi, M&S & Sainsburys & get my preferred bits from each store. Don't like Tesco's & Waitrose is overrated in my opinion.
Agree. As I said earlier, Tesco is shit IMO, overpriced, average quality products, and with rude and disinterested staff.

Waitrose is the most overrated of them all. Shithole with average products and high prices. I don't understand why any intelligent person with a grain of common sense would do their main shopping there.

Sunshinegirl82 · 04/07/2021 20:56

I think Aldi is great! I prefer a fair bit of their stuff to Sainsbury's. I always buy the premium meat etc and at my local store the veg always lasts the week.

I think it does vary by store, particularly with fresh stuff.

Perhaps it's just not for you op!

@comebacksunshines

I see more threads about Aldi along these lines than I do posters singing it's praises. LIDL and other supermarkets don't seem to generate these kind of threads. Wonder why that is. Also, odd to decide to do a big shop (£219) there after your bad experiences with popping in for bread , which is always mouldy. I wouldn't make a big purchase from a business, if I had received poor quality before.
I know right. Funny isn't it? It's almost like there's a bunch of people from other supermarkets, (who are jealous of Aldi and their success,) who have been paid to slate Aldi and say how crap they are.

The huge success they have, and the fact they have stolen many of the bigger supermarkets customers, would suggest different. Wink

The threads started here, saying how utterly shit Aldi are, are very damning, and as you say, they come in on a fairly regular basis.

Not doing much good though, are they, as Aldi go from strength to strength, and all the attempts to derail their success have failed miserably.

And as you say, moaning about how shit they are, and how they (supposedly) always have mouldy bread and the like, and then spending the amount of money in there in one shop (that most people would spend in there in a MONTH,) just doesn't add up.

Crankley · 04/07/2021 20:57

I think these shops are brilliant if you enjoy shopping in a jumble sale but they have never appealed to me.

coulditbecominghome · 04/07/2021 21:01

@FlaminEckVera tell us what you really think 😆

SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/07/2021 21:07

It's literally just because they are cheap and shout about it. That's it. They have few nice things and that's it.
People do care about price above anything in most cases. Great marketing, gotta give them that.
Still doesn't make their spinach last longer than you can say "that's gonna be nice in omelette tomorrow".
Nope

MaMelon · 04/07/2021 21:07

Absolutely agree FlaminEckVera

@MaMelon

Absolutely agree FlaminEckVera
Thank you. Smile
Rabbitheadlights · 04/07/2021 21:09

@FlaminEckVera ... What ever you've had, I want some? Clearly you are on a one woman crusade to promote Aldi which is fine, but had you read the thread properly you would see that the points you make are an utter nonsense. I have already greed that maybe it varies by store but that doesn't take away from my poor experience.

I had been into Aldi previously for bread and bits and all was great. I then decided to do a big shop and that's where the problems arose. Never did I say or would I that I bought mouldy bread and then decided to go back for more .... A ludicrous notion!!!!

@MaMelon

Absolutely agree FlaminEckVera
Thank you MaMelon.

I posted too soon. I wanted to add also, that it's utter bollocks that people only shop there coz it's cheap and 'they shout about that fact.' What a load of nonsense.

If they were shit people would not keep going, and they would not have stolen so many customers from other supermarkets...

A few people on here seem determined to berate them, and run them down.

Very odd. I wonder what their hidden agenda is. Wink

As I say, it's not working though, as Aldi have never been so popular! Grin

Rabbitheadlights · 04/07/2021 21:12

@FlaminEckVera I'd be Blush too. Hmm

And YOU are a one woman crusade to bash Aldi, and slate them.

HTH.

Rabbitheadlights · 04/07/2021 21:14

@Vera are you on commission???

@Rabbitheadlights

I mean starting an entire thread purely to slag off Aldi, is a bit pathetic, and a bit odd. What's your hidden agenda?

Why don't you like your (odd) views being challenged?

Becoming odder by the minute.

Rabbitheadlights · 04/07/2021 21:16

@FlaminEckVera because I said in ONE store, in ONE town I had a bad experience? .. aye ok ...

Meanwhile you are singing it's praises based on how many visits to different stores? So your experience is relevant to the whole of Aldi as a brand, yet mine isn't?

OP posts:
FlaminEckVera · 04/07/2021 21:16

@Rabbitheadlights If they are so crap, why spend £219 in there?

As I said. ODD.

Nothing adds up here, except you have a hidden agenda to bash Aldi.

ODDDDD!!

FlaminEckVera · 04/07/2021 21:17

I'm done anyway, Made my point Smile

Rabbitheadlights · 04/07/2021 21:18

@FlaminEckVera ... Seriously? What are you on???????

OP posts:
SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/07/2021 21:18

😂😂😂
People will eat so much crap you wouldn't believe. Look at takeaways. Which do the best business. Look what's in gheir patties... Meanwhile ones making it from meat only, no offal and not getting them frozen are getting "the other ones has it for two quid! Why is yours 6?" Question should be "how is burger costing just 2 quid👀"

It is majorily about the price. Whether in restaurants (ping foods), shops or anywhere else.

MaMelon · 04/07/2021 21:19

I wanted to add also, that it's utter bollocks that people only shop there coz it's cheap and 'they shout about that fact.' What a load of nonsense

Yep, the comments about jumble sales and only shopping there because you can’t afford to shop anywhere else are very strange.

Our household income is such that we can shop where we want, but I refuse to pay more for the same. DH prefers Lidl, I prefer Aldi, and we both like M&S and Sainsbury’s, so we shop in all four as the notion takes us. Our friends are similar in terms of how and where they shop and none of us would waste our money on fruit and veg or bread that went off after a day.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/07/2021 21:19
@Vera are you on commission???
😂 is this what they are making the grads do?

Rabbitheadlights · 04/07/2021 21:19

I spent 219 because I had no idea how crap it was, it was the first time I had done a full shop there, which you would know if you had read the thread properly

OP posts:
coulditbecominghome · 04/07/2021 21:20

What supermarket rivals Lidl's pain au chocolat? I think they are better than Gails.
