So DH and I like to be nosy at what’s on the housing market.

We keep coming across huge houses like the one linked, massive mansions, pools, 1bedrooms etc, fully furnished, available to RENT for £30,000 a month!

WHO is renting these properties??!!

I assumed they would be marketed for film and tenor something. But no! They are marketed as family homes…with underground parking for ten cars??!!

If you are that wealthy that you can afford £50k for a deposit and £30k per month, surely you’d just buy your own place?!

Don't worry they'll never go to heaven😇

Sparklesocks · 04/07/2021 00:34

I guess renting enormous and elaborate properties makes sense if you’re super mega rich. You don’t have to be tied down and can hop all over the world, and it’s not like you need property as an asset to secure your retirement or as inheritance for your children. You can get a new home in the same way we might buy a new top or new bedsheets. Probs easier to manage if you’re on a tax dodge too Wink

My years of experience of renting involved hard IKEA sofas, squabbling with the landlords about wear and tear vs deposit deductions, using command strips to avoid nail holes/Blu tack marks, battling to get a fallout for plumbers/electricians etc - very different vibe Grin

NoYOUbekind · 04/07/2021 00:42

Round our way, those rents are paid by Russians and Arabs whose children attend the super pricey, super prestigious private school. And they're only lived in for the short breaks where it's not quite worth jet lagging the DCs to take them home or to another country. In Covid, nannies came over, self-isolated then had the DCs at 'home'.

It's another world, innit?

FlyingBattie · 04/07/2021 00:53

Blimey how different the world would be if these people donated just 10% of what they have in their accounts to charity!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 04/07/2021 00:55

The house is hideous.

Maggiesfarm · 04/07/2021 01:00

Extremely wealthy people often don't buy properties, they don't need to though they could. It's easier to rent, they do not have the responsibility of maintenance - don't even have to think about it - and can pick up and leave when they feel like it.

It happens a lot in London, in places like Knightsbridge and Holland Park. They are often rented by fabulously rich people from overseas.

They probably do if not more than that. Being so rich does not equate to being stingy.

I think it looks fine but I do wonder what sort of family needs ten bedrooms, plus all the other rooms, even if they employ live-in staff. I know some people have big families and entertain many vistiors but still.
FlyingBattie · 04/07/2021 01:05

This one is almost 300K a month!

Of course not- and I didn't mean to imply they were all scrooges! I just find it so hard to wrap my head around having that kind of money... although it would be lovely to try it for a year or so!

Lockdownbear · 04/07/2021 01:20

Companies who want

Lockdownbear · 04/07/2021 01:23

Sorry hit post too soon.
Companies who want people to move around every year or two.

But makes sense for footballers too. The coat of stamp duty, estate agents fees, and legal fees to buy and sell property is crazy that its not worth buying for less than 7years.

CarrieMoonbeams · 04/07/2021 02:03

Wow, that house is something else isn’t it?!

One of the best parts of my day is when I play "hide and seek" with my dogs. The potential hiding places in my house are limited, but even so, my dogs are squeaking with excitement scampering around until they find me behind the bedroom curtains or the bathroom door or whatever - imagine the fun we could have in that house, they'd be worn out looking for me!

safariboot · 04/07/2021 02:26

Super high paid jobs are sometimes jobs that require you to go anywhere in the world you're wanted.

And I suppose that in that kind of market you won't get the shit from landlords that the rest of us are subjected to, because if a landlord to the super-rich tried that they'd soon get no tenants.

1forAll74 · 04/07/2021 03:07

A lot of millionaire celebrities just rent houses, You read that they live in millions of pounds houses, but they just rent. as some of them move on and go off and change their job locations often.. Like footballers etc.

Love that they tell you where the nearest tube stop is Grin. Horribly dark that place. You'd expect some natural light for over quarter of a million quid a month.

nanny2012nanny · 04/07/2021 03:21

Someone with bad taste the decor is vile

PrimeraVez · 04/07/2021 03:44

I live in the Middle East and know a lot of local families that would rent a property like that for a few months over the summer when they decamp to the Uk.

Confusedandshaken · 04/07/2021 03:56

I just googled stamp duty on a 3m property. It's £361,000. That's without any other buying costs or eventually, selling costs. So if you want a mahoosive house and know you won't be staying in an area for very long it probably is cost effective to rent somewhere rather than buy it.

Tossblanket · 04/07/2021 04:18

I don't think anyone would be stupid to pay that for a rental.

Some people have such astronomical wealth even that monthly payment is chump change.

It's just the way it is no matter how obscene it may be.

Picture 19 reminds me of playing The Sims when the house catches fire and the people sit there oblivious Grin

AprilAzpilicueta · 04/07/2021 04:36

A friend of mine rents one very similar. They're staying there while they renovate their forever home, which is even bigger. He's a CEO.
Their next door neighbour (down the road a bit as the grounds are huge) is a very senior transition manager from Switzerland managing the restructure of a large company for a couple of years so she brought her family with her, their house is part of the package I believe!

Arsebucket · 04/07/2021 06:15

I really wish I was rich.

My plans for today include scrubbing mould from the corners of the ceilings in my rented shitpit.

I’m so over this now.

LakieLady · 04/07/2021 06:41

It really is true that money doesn't buy taste, isn't it? The inside of that house is so vile that I wouldn't live there for free unless I was allowed to change it.

The "home cinema" practically gave me a migraine, all that purple and shiny velvet.

itsaccrualworld · 04/07/2021 06:42

Anyone noticed that the plans exclude the void and 'locked room'?

For £30k a month plus fees plus two lots of council tax, I want exclusive access to the whole damn property, thank you!
