Without being seriously unwell

Very difficult to burn through and consume a stone of your own bodily tissues in that time!

bellabride · 03/07/2021 15:09

I'm a long time target member of Slimming World, and I've known a fair number of new members lose 11 or 12 pounds in their first week: I think it's been when someone has a large amount to lose, and when their diet has previously been very unhealthy.

fluffythedragonslayer · 03/07/2021 15:14

There was someone in my slimming world group who lost 13lb in their first week. She was very very overweight. She would consistently lose 5-8lb a week after that

Hilda40 · 03/07/2021 15:16

I lost 22lb in 17 days walking the John Muir trail in California carrying all my rather spartan food. I was only slightly over weight to start with.

Pikachusbutt · 03/07/2021 15:16

If you have a lot to lose and do VLCD, then it's totally possible. It' all water and goes back on the second you smell solid food again. But it is possible.

BadLad · 03/07/2021 15:19

To lose a stone in a week you'd have to deficit 7000 calories a day

A quick Google suggests that running a marathon burns about 2600.

So if your daily food is 1800, you have to give that up, and run two marathons a day.

There you go. A diet of water only and two marathons a day.

Acrasia · 03/07/2021 15:34

Not impossible for the first week of a diet, especially if you go from a lot of processed food to everything prepared from scratch. Or if you cut out certain foods that you might have a slight intolerance to. But it’s mainly water and it certainly won’t be anywhere near stone every week.

SecretWitch · 03/07/2021 15:47

I lost 15 lbs in a month but I was very ill with diverticulitis and a UTI.

burnoutbabe · 03/07/2021 15:53

some of the people on BIGGEST LOSER USA show lose that.

they are very overweight and not only do very low cal diets, they also do a ton of exercise every day on their "fat camp"

I have gained and lost 5-6 pounds very quickly after say a cruise holiday when you have over eaten so really that's just water and food working its way through you (gross!)

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 03/07/2021 15:57

When I was 172Kg, I lost 18Ib in my first week of dieting. Obviously that wasn’t a regular occurrence but it definitely happens if you start that big

Merryoldgoat · 03/07/2021 16:00

Entirely possible if you are very fat. I have done it in the past and felt fine and lost more but more slowly.

Then I put it all back on.

You won’t lose that amount unless you’re very fat to start with.

TracysMom · 03/07/2021 16:00

I've done it! Keto diet though so most of it was water.

TheGoogleMum · 03/07/2021 16:06

I've I've it happen in slimming world groups. Usually the first week of dieting and someone very overweight, they don't tend to keep the pace up! It probably isn't too bad as a one off for someone very overweight (think 8+ stone to lose to be healthy weight!)

Bythemillpond · 03/07/2021 16:06

I lost 12lbs on one day a few days after I gave birth. I think it was all water weight as I sat on the loo and peed for minutes at a time.
Ended up losing 3.5 stone in 10 days. All water weight.

Neuts346 · 03/07/2021 16:08

I think it’s impossible. I lost 10lb in 10 days with covid, and was barely eating or drinking anything.

ThunderBitch · 03/07/2021 16:10

Yes, it's possible. I once lost 19 pounds in ten days. But I had a LOT to lose.

diamondpony80 · 03/07/2021 16:10

I lose 14lbs any time I do a 7 day water fast and always feel great after it. Probably only about half of that is fat though so I usually put on about 5-7lbs again when I resume eating.

They also did things like water loading before the first weigh in, and later on if they had immunity that week.
SinkGirl · 03/07/2021 16:15

I lost 7lb in five days a few years ago - so if you can find someone with norovirus and lick them, you might be able to manage it

AprilAzpilicueta · 03/07/2021 16:15

I've seen it happen at Slimming World but it was week one and the man was morbidly obese and aiming for a 12 stone loss, he lost 16lb in 7 days.
I'm not sure it's particularly sustainable though.

MovingtoOz1Day · 03/07/2021 16:17

I lost 16lbs on my first week with WW, I'm aware it was mostly water, but it didn't go back on. In fact I lost another 9 stones over the course of the next 2 years. Been 6 years at my goal weight now

FlatteredFool · 03/07/2021 16:23

Is it an ad for amoebic dysentery? That would probably do the trick.

Olny · 03/07/2021 16:26

It's possible, I did it. Whether it's sensible or not is a whole different thing.

Eviethyme · 03/07/2021 16:43

I lost 11 lbs in one week whilst on slimming world a while ago so that's nearly a stone..

I'm now 110 lbs down and 60 to go

Dobbyafreeelf · 03/07/2021 16:56

I lost just over a stone a couple of months ago when I have bad D&V for about a week. But I ate pretty much nothing bad a few dry crackers all week. I put 3lbs back on afterwards and my overall weight loss slowed for over a month after. So it's evened out to 1-2lbs a week over time of that makes sense?
