Garden supper this evening. Would it be reasonable to suggest that guests might leave the table for the football?

We have a ten people arriving for supper this evening. We plan to eat on the terrace, with a 7pm start to catch the last of any sunshine. Clearly if they arrive at 7.15, have drinks and warm spiced nuts/olives then sit down to a starter of crab, we’re not going to be serving the entree until well past 8pm.

I don’t know two of the couples. My guess would be that three, maybe four, of the men would want to see the match. I don’t think most of the women would be particularly interested.

My problem is I wasn’t aware there was a football match this evening and I rather suspect some guests will want to see it.

Do we;

  • open the doors so people can pop in and out?
  • suggest those that wish cut their food at table and then eat of their knees with a fork whilst watching the television?
  • suggest we watch together later?
  • not mention to football and hope nobody else does?
  • arrange regular update messages from someone who is watching?

If a match is at 8pm, what time will it finish? Should we defer eating until after the match but add in more substantial canapés?

@LemonRoses

I can’t see they would be, but not an issue as they’d not be upset if they saw themselves.
Out of interest Why do you think none of them would be on mumsnet?!

And yet you are prolific (yes I searched your name!)

Scaredycat87 · 04/07/2021 10:14

And I was meaning what they could find out about you!!

I fear your plans will either be covid none compliant with multiple households entering your house

The idea you are going to be having a nice garden meal in the sunshine doesn't look great given the weather.

I suggest you just cancel the whole damn thing and have done with it, that way everyone gets to watch the footy, no one gets wet and you all stay within the restrictions.

Have a fun evening.

I don't think she needs to worry about Covid restrictions, she clearly lives in 1952

Why would I worry about people knowing about me? They do in real life and nothing much changes in this virtual world.

The dark side troll hunters (on another site) only excitement is finding ridiculous ‘facts’ to try and pull apart. I like to help where I can.

Ah sorry, I took it to mean last night. Does it matter? I am who I am.

PhilSwagielka Denmark you say? I love Copenhagen. Tivoli at night is just lovely. We had a very funny conference dinner there a few years ago, with Fawlty Towers type waiters and some really sweet youngsters called Alphabeat playing music outside.

Maybe Smørrebrød to start. It really might have to be hot dogs too.

Your call op re what you want people to know
And you’ve been backward about being forward on previous mumsnet threads! Also revealed a fair fee personal details for example your 28 year old go daughter may not not people knowing she likes making frozen biscuits, Disney films and dressing up. Nothing wrong with that of course- but she might not be happy with others knowing

LemonRoses · 04/07/2021 11:05

Scaredycat87. She’s fine. I’m drying off before we go to hers for lunch. We get on well. We’ll probably laugh about this thread.
Why would she be bothered with people knowing she likes Disney? It’s hardly telling the world she’s got tertiary syphilis , is it? She wouldn’t give two figs.

We believe that a 28 year old gp should have no problem with others knowing she likes dressing up, singing, dancing, glee and making frozen biscuits

But… we are all different. Hence we being very careful about what I post on FB for example about my children ie nothing!!

I was just pointing it out op

Scaredycat87 · 04/07/2021 11:10

Oh goodness
Now you’ve revealed a medical condition

Fgs zip your mouth op

Scaredycat87 · 04/07/2021 11:11

There are rumours that a few of the guests had crabs.
