One take on Hancock might be about the relatively swift announcement from Sajid Javid about lockdown ending on time and no return, irrespective of how Delta variant progresses in the UK.
It seems the powers that be were unimpressed that June lockdown ending was postponed with Hancock's insistence and it was best to get him out of the way without the risk of him resigning for a COVID lockdown disagreement reason hence the method of his political execution.
No evidence beyond an informal steer by public servant insiders who are not political insiders.[/quote]
Good argument here that Johnson was put into a position by Cummings where he couldn't sack Hancock.
But the public would find it more difficult to adjust to life after the 19th June led by a Health Minister who had done all the messaging to stay home and stay safe now saying 'oh everything is fine now' despite rising cases.
You only have to look at the Covid section of mn to see there there are a lot of people struggling to comprehend that risk has altered and isn't what it was some month ago and thats having an impact on behaviour to an extent which is possibly no longer justified by the data.
Thus a new Health Secretary marks a clean slate and tone.
I'm not sure I buy into it completely, but the knives were definitely out for Hancock and he was actively targetted out of the job.
I also think that, in fairness, its possibly what was needed. (And actually I think Hancock has performed ok at Health in spite of challenges and opposition from elsewhere in Cabinet and beyond all things considered).
