Clintons are selling Christmas cards already

And you can't even avoid them. They're not tucked away in a corner, they're a huge window display.

FFS it's nearly six months to Christmas, leave us alone.

And I know there'll be people who think it's great, they can get everything done well ahead, but I'm definitely not one of them. I like Christmas but I'd be happy if it didn't start until 1st December at the earliest.

AIBU?

Just don’t look at it. I think retailers will start really early this year across the board. It’s a huge source of their annual income and they took a huge hit last year. I don’t have an issue with it.

Theunamedcat · 02/07/2021 16:08

I think its so they can make sure they sell stock last year with lockdown there was a lot left over

Cheeseandlobster · 02/07/2021 16:11

It's ridiculous. I for various good reasons, don't like Christmas. I don't want it shoved in my face in July and will actively avoid any shop that does this

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/07/2021 16:13

I was just wondering what Hillary & Bill were up to

Er, you’re in their shop!

phoenixrosehere · 02/07/2021 16:17

Is it the “Christmas in July” malarkey?

CocktailOnion · 02/07/2021 16:17

I absolutely love Christmas, come December my house looks like ,Santa , the reindeer and ALL the elves have vomited Christmas all over my house. But blow me the 2nd of July is flipping stupid to start with the Xmas stock.
End of October early November is plenty early enough.

walkoflifewoohoo · 02/07/2021 16:17

Some people are buying them. They want to get prepared. It's fine, just don't look at them

Yes to buy something normal like a birthday or new baby card probably. And it's a window display so anyone who walks past will see it. Bonkers
MouldyPotato · 02/07/2021 16:31

They need to make as much money as they can so they don't go under after the disaster that was last Christmas's trading.

MouldyPotato · 02/07/2021 16:32

It is a card shop and there are no major card buying dates apart from Halloween. They probably have loooads of cards to shift.

emilyfrost · 02/07/2021 16:49

YABU. All card shops start this early, because they’re extremely popular and usually sell out too.

No I was outside walking past their huge window display.

YANBU
Are they expecting to have to close in another lockdown all the way down to Christmas from now?

Surely they don't sell more in total just because they sell earlier? It must be the same overall sales spread over a larger period. Nobody buys Christmas cards twice (unlike tins of Quality Street)

Me too! Grin
BogRollBOGOF · 02/07/2021 16:54

Christmas? Not had one of those since 2019!

Quirrelsotherface · 02/07/2021 16:57

Years ago I wouldn't have minded this at all but the older I get the more indifferent inam to Christmas. 1st December is more than early enough. All that planning for 2 measly days. It's a waste of energy.

TrickorTreacle · 02/07/2021 16:58

YANBU OP!

Sure, if you're well organised and want it over and done with, then get the cards onlne. Amazon and eBay will sell them year round.

If you're going to Clintons or Hallmark in July, then it's for a birthday card, or congratulations, good luck, new job, new house, wedding anniversary, etc. Not bloody Christmas cards!

What's next? Valentine's cards in September?

IMNOTSHOUTING · 02/07/2021 17:01

Bloody hell! (Although for some reason I forgot there was a card shop called Clintons and though Bill and Hiliary were now flogging Christmas cards so am a little disapointed).

FourTeaFallOut · 02/07/2021 17:01

Is this in all Clinton's shops? Only an utter geek would be looking at Christmas cards in July.

Did you notice if they also had Christmas wrapping in paper too? Blush

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/07/2021 17:02

Ludicrous. Winter clothes no doubt filling the shops as well. I've never got over trying to buy my young son a winter hat after he lost his during a very cold snap in January. Walked past rack after rack of shorts and t-shirts to find an assistant. She looked at me as if I had two heads when I asked where the winter hats were.

WiddlinDiddlin · 02/07/2021 17:02

Yeah, and?

I have already planned my christmas stock for the things I make, I'll be opening bookings for Christmas commissions in a week or so.

If you don't want to buy 'em in July, fine, don't.. but shops do have to start stocking stuff when folk start asking for it or they will struggle.

They would not be wasting floor space if there was no demand!

Sometimesonly · 02/07/2021 17:03

I'm in Italy. In May I received a Christmas card from a friend in the UK which had been posted mid-December. On that basis, I guess Clinton's are being realistic about how long the post takes.

No I scurried past the window as fast as I could!
