To hang my washing out at night

Bbq1 · 29/06/2021 18:47

My morning routine is always busy and I never seem to have time to hang the washing out which is a nuisance especially during the hot weather. Aibu to start hanging my washing out before dark with the idea being that the next evening it will be dry?

I didn't when living in an area with significant dewfall overnight, and occasional night rain.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 30/06/2021 00:28

🙄

this has been done to death: it will get darked on, spider willies, bat wee & ghosts

aren't you an adult? decide it for yourself ffs

CharlotteRose90 · 30/06/2021 00:36

Do it. I wish I could but I have scummy neighbours at the back of me and to the side thay like having bonfires every night . Wouldn’t be able to stand the smell of smoke filled clothes.

avamiah · 30/06/2021 00:42

I always do but the weather has been terrible so I decided to bring it in and re wash it all and put the drier on.lol
Yes it’s totally ridiculous but so was England beating Germany earlier( sorry I couldn’t resist that).🤣

Puddington · 30/06/2021 01:18

Having not seen where this actually originated and only read people quoting it, I actually always thought that "darked on" meant a spider shitting on your clothes Blush

motleymop · 30/06/2021 01:27

Ah well, this has genuinely raised a laugh while I'm on my 50th wake up already tonight with my baby. Darked on!!!

avamiah · 30/06/2021 01:29

Hi
I’m lost here😕🙃
“darked on”?
I’m being serious I’ve never heard this before.

Lovelydovey · 30/06/2021 01:33

DH doesn’t like me doing it. He declares it unhygienic but can’t explain why, so I carry on doing it.

Furries · 30/06/2021 01:48

If you knew the darked-on comments would come, not much point in asking the question! You’re obviously well versed in the do’s and don’ts of washing outside at night.

Aside from that, I don’t see the point in the UK of doing this. It’s not warm enough generally to do so. Either pick a day that’s dry and hang washing out, or hang it on a clothes horse in the house on a crap day.

Mosaic123 · 30/06/2021 10:53

If you get some few on them and then they dry it gets the creases out!

Mosaic123 · 30/06/2021 10:53

Dew not few!

vodkaredbullgirl · 30/06/2021 10:54

spiders

MegaClutterSlut · 30/06/2021 11:05

I find if I leave it out over night there's normally quite a few 🕷 lurking in the washing, maybe thats just mine 🤔

Londontown12 · 30/06/2021 11:09

I do it !! It’s more productive for me whilst that’s on the line I have another load washing through the night !!

Theoldwoman · 30/06/2021 11:26

Of course it's ok. Do what you want. Why do you even need to ask a bunch of strangers.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/06/2021 11:44

It's one of those things that makes perfect sense but people feel funny about because it's unconventional.

I would if I didn't have time in the morning, crack on I say. That's my general approach to life. Do what suits you and sod what anyone else thinks when it doesn't affect them.

justjuggling · 30/06/2021 23:59

I always do it if the weather forecast is good for the next morning.

tallduckandhandsome · 01/07/2021 00:02

But the evening / night makes the clothes damp and they smell funny.

Clothes always brought in by 6pm here, earlier in the winter.

BoatyMcBoatMom · 01/07/2021 00:03

I do if the weather is forecast to be good

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 01/07/2021 00:03

I can't leave things that should be inside outside over night. I feel really guilty like I'm hurting their feelings. I left the pram base out the other week and it rained during the night. I felt so guilty in the morning like it was sitting out there like and abandoned puppy all night, but I'm weird. You crack on.

Notwavingbutdrowing3 · 01/07/2021 00:16

Nooooo OP yabu - don't do it! Washing goes out on the line by 3pm to bring in before night - or it gets DARKED on!! That's spiders 🕷 seeking refuge in your clothes and evening n'morning dew damp coldness that clothes won't shake easily,

I leant my lesson and also over the years have read multiple MN threads Grin to teach me this important life lesson !

If I leave it out overnight it takes at least an extra 8 hours to dry off next day - unless midsummer balmy weather which is rare in England- and it all needs a spider & bug thorough check.

So I put it on radiator as a pile and out next morning if laundry finishes near teatime and if it can't go in drier after a late wash.

Or I leave it in machine and do quick rinse next morning to put it outside fresh then.

moofolk · 01/07/2021 00:25

Mine's often out overnight.

It gets darked on and no doubt spider willies all over it.

It gets nearly dry and then rained on and left out.

'It'll be dry any day now' is a stock phrase.

I've had a blanket out there for three days.

It probably gives the neighbour a nervous twitch.

I don't care.

It’s a topic that’s made an appearance quite a few times here. Same comments.

Oh no 😱

lilmishap · 01/07/2021 00:44

@DanielODonkey

You'll get dark on it.
It's too fucking late for me to be roaring with laughter the way I just did you absolute shit. Grin
