or in your private parking space?

You point it out to them that they are parking on your private space and they mumble a sorry and walk off without moving their car...

I have blocked them in. AIBU?

I used to have a driveway at the end of the lane that everyone used to turn around when visiting the neighbours. Had to put gates up in the end

I would empty my bin on it.

Near my workplace there are flats with a private parking area, some of my colleagues park there when they can't get any closer to work. The spaces lie empty all day & actually when I walk past (I park further down the road) it's never full. I would be interested to know if this is actually illegal? The spaces aren't numbered or anything but it does say residents parking only. I always thought it was a bit cheeky to park there. Funnily enough the street I did used to park in the residents have now put cones all down the road so I can't park there either (not facing on or outside anyone's house- it's behind the flats of this private car park & is just a little side street but now fully blocked by cones) so I'm much further away but I'm always conscious people don't want my car near their house all day. I literally have no option there is nowhere else to park whatsoever.

@SirenSays . It is perfectly legal for someone to park in a marked disabled space on the road outside your house . Other blue badge holders can use it but also non blue badge holders can too . It is a courtesy only to leave it for your mother

The title of your post is a bit misleading as they haven’t parked on your drive. It’s still wrong to park in your designated space but I think in answer to “what would you do?” If I answer honestly I think I’d kick myself for not being more assertive and privately fume for the rest of the day. To all the people advocating blocking them in, putting jam or birdseed on the car, getting drunk so you can’t move it?? Seriously? you’d go out of your way to set your self up for major confrontation/retaliation?Confused

@threatmatrix

I would empty my bin on it.
That would be very sensible, you’d have to pick all the rubbish up after they’d driven off to the car wash. There really is some absolute batshit being posted on this thread.

Banana 🍌 in the exhaust.

I'd definitely block them in! It's a shame they managed to maneuver their way out.

I've been tempted to buy an extra car at times for this purpose Grin

NarcissaMalfoysManicure · 30/06/2021 13:29

My drive? They'd be told a) politely and then b) firmly to move and if they didn't, I would block them in with my car - can't 30-point-turn your way out of a straight driveway.

Private spaces are tricky and if you get someone pigheaded, it's unfortunate.

All the people claiming they would definitely smear things on the car are brilliant role models for their kids Hmm and telling porkies

Do you think illegally blocking someone from accessing the public highway is any better “role model” behaviour then? Weird line to draw.
BringBackThinEyebrows · 30/06/2021 17:55

@SmallPrawnEnergy

Is it illegal to block a car in your drive? I just read this article on cars parked on driveways without permission that said the following:

As long as you don't cause an obstruction to the road or damage the offending car, there's no reason you can't get a little bit of revenge (if not justice) by positioning your own car or other property to block them in – because there's no way you can be done for trespassing on your own property.

And:

If someone has parked on your driveway and you were to block them in, be careful not to cause an obstruction to the public highway as this is a criminal offence. If you do, the owner of the vehicle could call the police on you.

I interpreted that as you cannot obstruct the road, but obstructing a vehicle and preventing them from leaving your driveway is absolutely fine.

Only house with a drive down a narrow lane near a popular woodland, I keep a tin of black treacle in the cupboard just for such occasions. You park on my drive, your car gets the whole tin of it on roof, windows and bonnet.

Yorkshiretolondon · 30/06/2021 18:51

Paint a PRIVATE on the floor of your space CF I’d be furious

Barmychick · 01/07/2021 12:43

Had something similar yrs ago . Very aggressive blocke effed at me(I'm disabled so he thought he could)? l went inside got a large knife & gave him 10 seconds to move it &stop threatening me or he'd need New tyres. He scampered.

Barmychick · 01/07/2021 13:03

Scarpered!😂

There was a great thread on here some years ago now where a parking space was the discussion and I think it was a neighbour who kept parking in the OP's space. Eventually the OP got someone to park exceptionally close to both sides of the offending vehicle (so close you couldn't open the door or get in through the window) and left the car there for about a week meaning the offending vehicle couldn't be moved at all. The owner of the offending vehicle had to get taxis and public transport for the duration.
All they had to do was move their car when the OP asked. They didn't and then the OP unleashed the dragons!
I think that's how it went down.
