or in your private parking space?

You point it out to them that they are parking on your private space and they mumble a sorry and walk off without moving their car...

I have blocked them in. AIBU?

My friend lives in a city centre with a private parking spot behind her house. The spot is marked as belonging to her house. She came home one day and there was a car parked in there. She knocked at the neighbours but nobody knew who the car belonged to. She could have blocked it in but she has a new and relatively expensive car and the one in her spot was an old banger.
She was worried they may have just tried to nudge her car out of the way. So bloody frustrating though as she had to park on a meter and pay!!!!!

PurpleWaterBlue · 28/06/2021 16:57

"Excuse me"

"Where do you think you're going?"

"I just told you that is MY private parking"

"Move it"

"NOW"

Firmness is required here I think.

I do have less sensible options that the cheeky fucker definitely would not like but I don't think they'd be super popular amongst the civilised of Mumsnet, so best to stick with sensible firmness I think.

I know land rovers are a big no no on here but they are wonderful for pulling vehicles out of the way when they block access to your land. If you know someone with the capability, have it moved to a more appropriate place.

Shade17 · 28/06/2021 16:58

I would've said, "Move your car or I'm getting it clamped."

And they would’ve replied “good luck with that”

Kitfish · 28/06/2021 16:58

People sometime park on my private driveway outside my house, meaning I have no-where to park my car. It drives me mad. I'm 30 seconds walk from a post office and my drive is the nearest parking point. Fact that it's MY PRIVATE DRIVE OUTSIDE MY HOUSE seems to pass them by. I can't understand why people would be so rude. YANBU.

PegasusReturns · 28/06/2021 16:58

Was it a parking space or a drive.

Obviously parking on either is wrong but the idea of someone pulling into a drive feels so much more outrageous.

Kitfish · 28/06/2021 17:01

I came home once to find an Asda delivery van parked on my private drive. When I told him to move (because it was my drive) he called me a silly bitch and insulted my car. People can be very selfish and rude.

Kitfish · 28/06/2021 17:02

It was my private drive outside my house. There are double yellows on the road so street parking is not possible.

Blossomtoes · 28/06/2021 17:06

I’d be grateful for the miracle as I don’t have a drive or parking space.

GreyhoundG1rl · 28/06/2021 17:07

How did they get out?!

KitKat1985 · 28/06/2021 17:09

Annoying that they got out. Angry

MangoBiscuit · 28/06/2021 17:10

Have previously blocked in someone who did this, CF. Not even a shared private carpark, literally on my driveway.
Current house has a gate, so now I'd give them 5 minutes to move, then I'd close the gate, and lock it.

IheartJKR · 28/06/2021 17:12

Ahhh a parking thread. Welcome back!!

What joy Grin

I hope you complained him! Shock
SilverGlitterBaubles · 28/06/2021 17:13

People are really strange. We have had a car parked outside our house for a month now. Reported to the police/ council as abandoned they are not interested as long as taxed and insured, technically it's legally parked although not roadworthy and just annoying for those that live here. Neighbours managed to track down the owner but they were very aloof and have no intention of moving it for the near future 🤯

Please tell me you took a photo including his registration and reported it to Asda?

What a CF!

feelingfree17 · 28/06/2021 17:14

Are you sure they haven’t used the Just Park App and got the wrong drive?

itsgettingwierd · 28/06/2021 17:14

I've also blocked them in.

I even added a little bit extra by when they then rang my door to ask me to me it (hours later!) I responded politely with a smile

"Sure. I'm just finishing the dinner and I'll be out in about 20 minutes"

And shut the door in their face.

HideousKinky · 28/06/2021 17:16

We live next to a church and whenever there's a funeral or wedding we get CFs who think they can park in our drive

FlippertyFlip80 · 28/06/2021 17:16

They must have had to do a 30 point turn to get out.

The person was in no doubt they parked in a private space because I told them. There are 10 spaces behind houses and 4 signs up all around saying private parking.

That just didn't give a sh#t!

As they walked off I was too dumbstruck to realise they were actually intending to remain in their car.

It's a very sad world when there are so many people that don't give a damn about anyone but themselves.

motogogo · 28/06/2021 17:17

I've had several people move this month alone, only one got grumpy (private car park for around 15 cars with a covenant against camper cans and commercial vehicles). Private tow company will remove anything unauthorised!

ARealTrip · 28/06/2021 17:17

Annoying they managed to get out, but entitles little shit that you told them it was probate and they just left it there! Bold as brass.

VerticalHorizon · 28/06/2021 17:17

You can't clamp them. It's illegal (if you're in the UK).
Blocking them in questionable.

FlippertyFlip80 · 28/06/2021 17:17

I mean too dumbstruck to realise they intended to keep their car there. They went to a house in another street but I didn't see which house.

allihaveleft · 28/06/2021 17:20

I'm trying to picture your house, their car, where else they could have parked, and the house they disappeared into, I think I need a diagram, please Grin
