He won't be toast for this - Tories do what they like these days. Several of the cabinet have broken the ministerial codes quite badly and remain in post.

The other question is, why is a professional lobbyist being employed by the government? Surely that's a massive conflict of interest and shouldn't actually be allowed.

Haven't read the whole thread but here's my take.
Hancock was massively over promoted.
He couldn't cope with the pandemic and made many mistakes.
Boris wanted to sack him but BJ doesn't like to sack people as it gives others ammunition.
Boris decided to keep MH and use him as the eventual fall guy.
The pandemic has gone on much longer than BJ expected and he has been stuck with MH.
Cummings publicly revealed the fall guy plans so BJ now even more stuck.
Photos of MH leaked to force him to resign for personal reasons.
BJ no longer stuck.

There are 2 spouses and a number of children involved in this mess. It is them I feel sorry for.

It's the cronyism and the disregard for transparency which is the issue here. Not the sex.

The affair was conducted on work time and she was given taxpayer money for a role that people questioned because she was also a lobbyist and was given high level access. It stinks. But this is also very convenient for the Prime Minister who can force him to resign or sack him over this but not over the handling of covid. It seems like Hancock’s affair was common knowledge in Whitehall, so why only now is it coming out?
