To ask how to find out who sent me this?

sparkleshines · 24/06/2021 13:41

300 GBP pair of headphones arrive from Amazon.

Not from our account, Amazon will not tell us who.

We can't accept gifts without knowing who sent it due to job. What do we do? How do we find out who sent it?

Address on there is ours, but spelt wrong and half of it is in French. It all feels very dodgy.

Just to add:

No birthdays or anything that we would get a gift for.

Amazon said we could say names and they would say if it was them, said everyone we know and Amazon confirmed none of them have sent it.

Why would your work contacts / clients / suppliers know your home address?

Just keep them. 🤷‍♀️

sparkleshines · 24/06/2021 13:44

@tallduckandhandsome It's not our full address, just name and general area we live in. So, it's something a colleague/client could have guessed.

ApplesandBananas21 · 24/06/2021 13:45

If it's your home address it's got nothing to do with work?

BIWI · 24/06/2021 13:45

Sounds like a scam to me

tubbycustardtummyache · 24/06/2021 13:45

It’s probably a brushing scam. There are warnings about it on Amazon’s website. It’s something to do with 3rd party sellers getting fake reviews but I don’t fully understand how it works

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 24/06/2021 13:46

Could it be a scam of some sort? I thought some companies sent things out at random to get good reviews?

BIWI · 24/06/2021 13:46

@sparkleshines

see here

HollowTalk · 24/06/2021 13:46

I would like it if this happened to me! Presumably if it is a friend or family member then they'll be in touch to see if you liked them. I know it's frustrating but hey, enjoy them!

ThePlantsitter · 24/06/2021 13:46

You should contact the department at work that's responsible for the 'no gifts from strangers' rule and see what they say. I can think of a few jobs where this might be worrying.

RitaTheGreeter · 24/06/2021 13:48

Yes, a scam: conversation.which.co.uk/money/amazon-prime-brushing-scam-explained/

Then no one can prove it was work related.

Maybe declare it to HR and say Amazon won’t say who has sent it so you’re assuming it was non-work related.

And if someone work related sent you a gift, they would want you to know it was from them.

I get gifts from suppliers, they chase me up if I don’t thank them after a week.

I agree it's probably a brushing scam. I'm not entirely sure of the point of them though!

sparkleshines · 24/06/2021 13:49

Thanks so much. They are from a very reputable brand and very expensive though, would this be something a scammer would send for free?

Interesting.

Are the headphones you got gaming ones OP?

sparkleshines · 24/06/2021 13:51

@tallduckandhandsome No, they're by Bose.

OP posts:
tallduckandhandsome · 24/06/2021 13:53

Hmm I doubt Bose would lower themselves to scam people and leave 5* reviews.

I say enjoy them OP.

theemmadilemma · 24/06/2021 14:18

It's not that scam. The items sent in those scams are usual incredibly low value items such as sticker packs and foam toys or something.

theemmadilemma · 24/06/2021 14:19

*item actually sent. Not item intended to be reviewed mind...

starfishmummy · 24/06/2021 14:27

Must read more carefully.
I thought The OP had received 300 pairs of headphones BlushGrin

Me too Blush

Are they the sort you'd use with your computer? The best case is that your workplace's IT team have sent them out for remote working. The worst case (depending on your job) is that they have malware or some listening technology on them that will interact with your computer and access confidential information.

Amdone123 · 24/06/2021 14:36

It is a scam, but like a pp, I don't understand how it works either. It is called brushing ; I did research it, am of reasonable intelligence, but I still don't get it.
During Lockdown, we received numerous items. Right address, wrong name. Amazon delivery man wouldn't take any back, so stuck with them.
Googled the name, she lived relatively close (but not an address easily mixed up), so we took items to hers ( Lockdown boredom). After second visit, politely asked her to sort. And still they came. Amazon said keep them, so we opened them ( Lockdown boredom again).
We now have various items ranging from a child's bike to an I- pad. We want nor need either.
Thank god it's stopped ( fingers crossed).

theemmadilemma · 24/06/2021 14:51

No one is sending out Bose headphones as a scam. I mean if they are, sign me up. Hmm

Amdone123 · 24/06/2021 15:02

@theemmadilemma, I know, it's mad. There was a poster not long ago saying her elderly parent had received jewellery. And was told to keep it. It's weird.
