to not get an induction hob?

I need to get a new hob. I want gas. Everyone is telling me I need induction, mostly because "it's easy to clean". I have tried cooking on induction a few times on a few different cookers and have hated it every time. I am a keen (and to be truthful - a very good cook). My cooking is pretty instinctive - and I certainly don't want to program a cooker to decide what temperature to cook a steak at! I want a hob for cooking - not for cleaning so...please tell me why IABU...

My mum got induction because it’s easy to clean. I hate it, I’d always stick with gas

I hate them. I don't like the lack of...umm...'feel'. With gas you can see and sense what's going on. It's a much more direct experience.

I don't think that's a Luddite thing. I think it's an inbuilt thing - the feedback loop of interacting with the world.

Then again, I think that a mouse is much easier to use than a touchpad...

You need to go with what you like, I've had both and personally I much prefer induction hobs not for the cleaning as let's face it it's not hard to keep a gas hob clean but for safety (5 girls so important for me) and its responsiveness, its a finger movement and the temperature instantly changes.

It's one of tbe things in life that paying more brings a better item if you do go for induction don't go for tbe cheaper ones.

I have had both.
I like gas for the level of control and yes, it is better for cooking.
I like induction because it heats fast, cools fast, and yes, it's easy to clean.
Why not have both - two ring induction, and two ring has, side by side?

My induction job doesn't need programming. You just turn it on and then go up and down the heat settings as required.
