To think a lot of people are completely stupid?

Someone posted a photo on a Facebook group of a Fabulosa product that is mean to keep artificial lawn clean and smelling nice. Said product is rammed full of toxic chemicals that are harmful to humans, animals and the environment. Hundreds of comments of people praising the product, tagging their mates in it. Lots of people going to be buying it, damaging the environment, probably harming their cats and dogs in the process. So bloody stupid. This cleaning craze of fabulosa and zeflora is beyond stupid.

Saw another post where people where complaining about paper straws and posting links of where others could purchase plastic straws. I mean, sure, I preferred plastic straws. They didn't go soggy and disintegrate half way through a drink but really, it's a small sacrifice to make. It's stupid and selfish.

Spoke to several people recently, ages varying between 20s and late 50s. None of them aware of who the suffragettes were.

So AIBU to think that so many people really are just stupid?

The artificial grass cleaner I sell ( the leading brand) does say to not let it enter drains and sounds worse than fabulosa for toxicity

But of course I’m the stupid one for spending my Saturday Eve looking at SAfety Data Sheets aren’t I!!?

Eggshausted · 19/06/2021 22:26

Some of the responses to the OP are hysterical! This thread is a total virtue signalling fest. Congratulations to all of you who don’t use straws, artificial turf, or balloons. Bonus points if you have any of The suffragettes albums. Why do care what random people on an Internet forum think of you? :-)

OverByYer · 19/06/2021 22:27

Why are suffragettes cleaning fake lawns with Fabulosa?!

I hate fake grass in gardens , just why?

Billandben444 · 19/06/2021 22:29

Well, I'm still waiting for the rhino, the gorilla and the elephant I adopted off a TV ad to arrive - I've even enlarged the cupboard under the stairs to accommodate them. Guess I'm in the stupid camp too.

BeHappyAndSmile · 19/06/2021 22:30

@Bluebird2021

So hold on…..those fabulosa data sheets are no different than for any other household cleaner! Cif, febreeze, flash all the household favourites….they are just the same and we ALL know cleaning products should be used with caution
You're correct there. But there are much less harmful cleaners. Method is a good one for ease of use but natural cleaning is possible too. Just because they are all harmful doesn't mean that it's fine. It's not using with caution that's the issue here, it's the danger to the environment. Harmful to aquatic life, on fairy washing up liquid. You know, that product that goes down our drains daily. Fabric softener that comes with a warning not to use on baby clothes because it increases flammability. Small changes help the environment massively and saying "no different to any other household favourite" is incredibly ignorant.

Are you surprised, come on now, Boris had to tell everyone how to wash their hands correctly, of course we are all stupid 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sparklingbrook · 19/06/2021 22:35

If you have a dog and it has a wee on the fake grass what happens then?

londonrach · 19/06/2021 22:39

I miss plastic straws...the paper ones are awful. Think they need to rethink them. Not the metal ones that hurt you but bamboo or similar...missing point I know but the paper straws are terrible

HibouMilou · 19/06/2021 22:42

Never heard of Zoflora. What is it? Am I stupid?
Ps. I know I could google it but would get adverts popping up on Mumsnet!

Oh you have a vested interest in this. That makes sense. You've got a business to run and I totally get that you'll be a bit defensive about the products you sell but please look into more environmentally friendly products you could potentially sell. Not just for the planet but for your own health too, the increase in cancer etc is starting to be linked to these issues and it's in everyone's best interest to be mindful with regards to chemicals.

(Also I realise I've quoted you a lot, I don't mean to but you've mentioned things I feel strongly about. Apologies if it seems like I'm targeting or anything, I'm definitely not meaning to just quote you Smile)

Sparklingbrook · 19/06/2021 22:44

'I'm just going out to clean the grass' Confused I'll stick with nature and the lawnmower. Grin

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 19/06/2021 22:49

Technically not polite but “dumb” people make you appear “smarter.”

However lack of general knowledge regarding three random unrelated subject matters does not necessarily mean you are intellectually challenged. It is the general level of intelligence of analytical thought processing, problem solving amongst a whole host of other brain utility and functionality including creativity that provides a better measure of relative intellectual knowledge and capacity.

Lolwhat · 19/06/2021 22:49

I know exactly what group this is🤣 I even argued with the plastic straw lady, it’s bloody stupid

Bluebird2021 · 19/06/2021 22:57

@BeHappyAndSmile

Well my store is one of a large chain of 300+ so I have little clout with what we sell

We are as eco friendly as we can be and making changes constantly.

My point was (with other household cleaners being mentioned) that op was on her high horse about 2 named brands zoflora and fabulosa. Method are not any better unfortunately (I also sell them)

RedToothBrush · 19/06/2021 22:59

Best none plastic straws I've tried have been pasta straws.

It's a multipurpose cleaner made popular by Mrs Hinch. I have to admit it does smell amazing and I was suckered in for a bit but after having my little one and looking into it a bit after cleaning made him cough I'm shocked they're allowed to sell a lot of this stuff. It can cause allergic reactions, harm to an unborn baby and is harmful to aquatic life (to a significant degree)
To think a lot of people are completely stupid?

It wasn't actually my intention to single out those two brands. The point I was making is that it seems incredibly stupid to put any kind of toxic cleaner onto artifical grass because, 1. It's harmful to the environment and 2. It's harmful to life. So, if you're pouring toxic chemicals onto the grass that your children and pets are then going to be using, well, that doesn't seem very clever, does it. Not to mention the fact that wildlife will also be using said grass and the cleaner will also be drained into the soil underneath. It's not really the same as spraying a bit of method on a cleaning cloth and wiping your worktop with it. (Not defending Method. Have never even used method.)

Thank you for sharing that link, I used method as an example because it was the one I assumed was better and after looking at the ingredients my (not very knowledgeable about these things) mind thought it was safe so I really appreciate that.

I totally get what you mean about those two brands being dragged down, almost every cleaner sold is as bad as the other but people tend to focus on particular ones. I've been guilty of that on this thread with zoflora because influencers peddle that shit as much as possible and I feel like people need to try and undo that as much as possible Blush.

blaisealex · 19/06/2021 23:15

Another headline I've just seen: 'Tilly Whitfeld, 21, who appeared on Big Brother, attempted to make herself look sunkissed using ink and a sewing needle, but soon discovered she had stabbed lead into her skin'

She apparently saw a new beauty hack on TikTok that created faux freckles. She tried it herself and bought brown tattoo ink from Amazon. She used a needle to poke 'freckles' onto her face with the ink. But the ink was full of lead! She was temporarily blinded and left scarred. I'm sorry she was hurt but honestly! What a stupid thing to do.

@blaisealex I think people who go on and on about single use plastic and yet in non-Covid times take several flights each year are ignorant- do they really not know which is worse for the environment? but actually it's silly of me to blame anyone for their individual choices when it comes to the environment.

Did you know that the term 'Carbon Footprint' was actually coined by BP (British Petroleum) in an attempt to shift public opinion from attributing blame to and demanding change from or restrictions to oil companies (which lead to 71+% greenhouse gas emissions) towards blaming individuals for small individual choices, which have a relatively miniscule impact on the environment.

Zoflora contains toxic ingredients but so do lots of the products that most people use from shampoos to stain removers to toilet cleaners- why is using any one of those particular products especially stupid?

I'm sure that most people in the UK have heard of the suffragettes. Those that haven't must have not had parents who informed them, must not have been taught about it at school and must have missed all film, TV and book references to the movement; which seems unusual but I guess it happens.

Bluebird2021 · 19/06/2021 23:19

There actually was a band called the Suffrajets, they were around in the early '00s. I think they had a documentary made about them. I saw them a couple of times and they were pretty good.

(And yes, I know who the suffragettes are.)

blueshoes · 19/06/2021 23:26

Yes, people are stupid. They work for me.

No *@blaisealex*. Most people are talking about the suffregands when they think they are talking about the suffragettes, and you might well be too.
What on earth..
