To think a lot of people are completely stupid?

Someone posted a photo on a Facebook group of a Fabulosa product that is mean to keep artificial lawn clean and smelling nice. Said product is rammed full of toxic chemicals that are harmful to humans, animals and the environment. Hundreds of comments of people praising the product, tagging their mates in it. Lots of people going to be buying it, damaging the environment, probably harming their cats and dogs in the process. So bloody stupid. This cleaning craze of fabulosa and zeflora is beyond stupid.

Saw another post where people where complaining about paper straws and posting links of where others could purchase plastic straws. I mean, sure, I preferred plastic straws. They didn't go soggy and disintegrate half way through a drink but really, it's a small sacrifice to make. It's stupid and selfish.

Spoke to several people recently, ages varying between 20s and late 50s. None of them aware of who the suffragettes were.

So AIBU to think that so many people really are just stupid?

I know a teeny bit about the suffragettes, I don’t have an artificial lawn and I don’t clean much, so I thought I was doing ok, but I don’t get the connection between them so I have clearly failed this test.

thecatsatonthewall · 19/06/2021 21:03

@SkedaddIe

Are they ignorant? Maybe. Are they stupid? No.
The two tend to go hand in hand.

Being ignorant of knowledge is one thing but the majority are not interested in finding out and learning more, they'd rather sit in front of the TV or computer.

The Brexit referendum is a lesson in why complex decisions shouldn't be given to stupid people, include Farage and Johnson in this too.

Helium balloons should just be banned

Somuddled · 19/06/2021 21:03

I'm pretty sure the Suffragettes invented zoflora so it's all good.

Rowofducks · 19/06/2021 21:04

I didn’t know who the suffragettes were for a long time as we didn’t learn about them at school and as I’d never heard of them they just weren’t on my radar. Maybe that makes me stupid I don’t know. I have since found out more about them.
I went to a very religious school too so had no sex education so had no idea about sex or anything to do with it so the local teenagers thought I was stupid as I didn’t know what they were on about half the time. (No google back then).

Recently on fb i saw someone sharing a picture of a missing child. The picture was clearly an oil painting of a Victorian child but they wouldn’t listen to anyone who pointed it out.

Or the dog who was ‘badly burned’ who clearly had a piece of ham on his face Grin

Bluebird2021 · 19/06/2021 21:07

What’s harmful a@Blaine Alex is ‘stupid’ for parroting fabulosa is anymore harmful to humans and animals than any other standard cleaner

But hey, you can’t argue with stupid

CaptainThe95thRifles · 19/06/2021 21:09

I'm often astounded by how little people seem to know about history - even fairly significant aspects of British history, let alone the rest of the world. It wouldn't concern me so much if these people had different bodies of knowledge in other fields, but often they just seem to be pig ignorant across the board.

Heneage · 19/06/2021 21:11

Thick people often take pride in their lack of interest in the world.

And information about the women's suffrage move met is widely available beyond a) school and b) Mary fucking Poppins, btw

entropynow · 19/06/2021 21:13

YANBU but witness the number of people already having a go at you for the reason why people are so stupid/ignorant. Anti-intelligence masquerading as anti-intellectualism is rife. It pays, socially, to be dim, it doesn't pay to question it.

Summerfun54321 · 19/06/2021 21:14

I agree OP. But Facebook is also stupid so if you want to be part of the intelligentsia, you need to close your account and step away from the stupidness Grin.

Twiggywinkle13 · 19/06/2021 21:16

I think a lot of it is ignorance rather than stupidity.

It infuriates me that people don’t know about suffragettes, absolutely mind blowing.

GypsyWanderer · 19/06/2021 21:21

Its like when people bang on about animal rights or saving the world and then eat animals. It’s ignorance in some ways but also cognitive dissonance.

Fleetw00d · 19/06/2021 21:25

I think the majority of the human race are stupid and I only like and can tolerate about 7 people in total.
And yes I'm in a bad mood today.

CheeseIsATypeOfMeat · 19/06/2021 21:29

How often do people drink from straws? I don't get why anyone would have straws at home? Just use your mouth!
(and yes, fucking disclaimer, I realise some people will need them for disabilities)

BeHappyAndSmile · 19/06/2021 21:30

@NigellaSeed

Wait, is zoflora stupid??
Zoflora can lead to birth defects or miscarriage apparently. I can't for the life of me remember the website you can view the health impacts and warnings on but I highly recommend looking up Michelle ohgundehin on Instagram. Her clean cleaning highlights show all of the relevant information on a lot of popular cleaning products.

Zoflora in its self is not stupid, but using it when you know the impact is. Unfortunately most don't know the impact.

Sparklingbrook · 19/06/2021 21:31

Straw users here. We have metal ones now, and every time anyone in this house has a cold drink we have ice and a straw. Sorry about that. I also carry one in my handbag.
Kdubs1981 · 19/06/2021 21:33

@0None0

No *@blaisealex*. Most people are talking about the suffregands when they think they are talking about the suffragettes, and you might well be too.
Aren't suffragands a type of bishop?! Confused
BeHappyAndSmile · 19/06/2021 21:35

@HarebrightCedarmoon

Cleaning products - a mixture of not knowing or not caring

Or just having a different opinion.

A different opinion? When the facts of the harmful nature of most cleaning products is right there for all to see (online and a lot of the time on the bottle too)? So opinion should trump facts? Fuck the world, I like the smell of zoflora so my opinion is all that matters yeah?
lazyarse123 · 19/06/2021 21:35

I went to a pub quiz with some work mates and to say they were amazed at the questions I got right was weird and quite insulting as they kept telling people how much knowledge I had compared to them. I am in no way smarter than them but I enjoy reading and looking up facts whereas they would rather watch reality tv (not that there's anything wrong with that) just not for me.
People don't seem to see the point in learning anything when you can google what you want to know.

sweatervest · 19/06/2021 21:35

i must fall into the stupid category as i wonder why the car isn't moving when i've left the handbrake on.

plus i was watching a boxing match and i thought that KO meant keeled over.
but i can ALWAYS find the remote. so not that daft

lazyarse123 · 19/06/2021 21:36

I mean it was insulting because they were shocked thati actually knew stuff.

Ostara212 · 19/06/2021 21:39

I'm thinking people who have fake lawns don't care about chemicals and wildlife.

Kdubs1981 · 19/06/2021 21:41

Gosh, there are a lot of supercilious people on this thread.

People have different knowledge that they value in different ways...

By definition 75% of the population fall into the the "average" range of intelligence or above. So.....

BeHappyAndSmile · 19/06/2021 21:41
@blaisealex what’s the harmful component of the artificial grass cleaner
I don't have the ingredient list but hopefully this shows the concern with people using it.

To think a lot of people are completely stupid?
To think a lot of people are completely stupid?
IvorHughJarrs · 19/06/2021 21:42

Most people are ignorant, stupid or both.

I live in a seaside resort where local people have had to form volunteer groups to clean up the beaches and public areas after busy days due to the amount of rubbish left behind despite the council providing more bins. That is bad enough but, what makes it even worse, is the number of plastic buckets, spades, bats, balls, etc that are also left so these people go to a local shop and buy these things just to discard them at the end of the day and leave them for others to clear up. Just like seeing all the tents abandoned after music festivals while the same people pay lip service to "saving the Earth"
