To ask if anyone has a quick sun stroke remedy?

I am on holiday and have felt nauseous all night. Today feels like I have the worst hangover of my life. I am really nauseous, have had diarrhoea and just feel so dreadful.

I can only assume it’s from being in the sun yesterday. I was careful, wasn’t out too long and wore sun cream, but think I must have maybe not drank enough.

We are meant to be going out today so I will have a disappointed 2 and 4 year old if I can’t go, but at the minute my nausea is terrible if I stand up or try to move.

I’ve kept down a banana and a slice of toast and had some orange squash. Anything else I can do to help feel better quickly?

far as i know, only cure for heatstroke is shade, rest and plenty of water.

4PawsGood · 17/06/2021 10:06

You might have a tummy bug though.

Excilente · 17/06/2021 10:07

i dont think it causes diarrhea though.. so i think you have a bug rather than heat stroke/exhaustion.

MaloInAnAppleTree · 17/06/2021 10:07

Flat full sugar coke always a good shout.

DownUdderer · 17/06/2021 10:08

Heat stroke can be quite serious. It shouldn't just be ignored.

Aquamarine1029 · 17/06/2021 10:09

I think you have a bug or food poisoning.

QueenAdreena · 17/06/2021 10:09

Sunstroke can definitely cause diarrhoea.

LakeShoreD · 17/06/2021 10:09

By the sounds of you have a bug, not sunstroke. That said, rehydration stuff like Pedialyte (can’t remember what the British equivalent is called) is good for stomach bugs and heat stroke so I’d send someone in your group to the pharmacy for some.

Mrsjayy · 17/06/2021 10:10

Tepid water salted crackers/crisps and rest is what I was advised when I had sunstroke in Florida I had a "turn" in the bathroom and a woman who was a nurse helped me. Hope you feel better soon.

CaptainBarbossa · 17/06/2021 10:12

Coca Cola, dioralyte, lots of water and a day or two inside or in the shade

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 17/06/2021 10:16

That doesn’t sound like sunstroke but a bug. Poor you. Stay in bed and hope you get better soon.

A pint of coconut water drunk slowly.

I have definitely had diarrhoea with sunstroke.

I second the electrolytes suggestion. Is there a kids club the kids could go in for a bit?

Santastealer · 17/06/2021 10:22

That’s everyone. It could be a bug, the 2 year old was sick in the night and has been back in bed asleep all morning so it’s very possible we both have a bug.

I’m so upset as we have been looking forward to this holiday for ages and it’s only 3 days so we are missing so much of it. Feel really bad for my 4 year old who is currently sat watching tv all morning as I don’t feel well enough for my DH to leave me alone in the house at the minute.

No, it’s just a holiday cottage in the UK.

2 year old is also unwell, was sick once in the night and is now back in bed napping.

Can you not sleep with the two year old for a few hours?
Unfair for the four year old to miss a day or two just sat in front of the tv can he not take her out for a couple of hours?pick up so Imodium plus and rehydration drinks on the way back?
Hope you feel better soon.

kittie01 · 17/06/2021 11:52

Let your hubby take the four year old and you and the little one rest up. Why spoil everyone’s time. Plenty of fluids and rest

The 2 year old is now awake and I don’t feel well enough to look after her on my own.

He is going to put her in the pushchair and take them all for a walk to the arcade after lunch. (Probably where we picked up the bugs as I would imagine those 2p’s are gross!).

I had sunstroke once whilst on holiday in Florida!

I had to spend the entire day shut up in my air conditioned hotel room watching crappy tv and drinking lots of fluids.

Felt better the next day though.

Thanks. I’m not sure it is sunstroke now as I have really bad stomach pains and diarrhoea so think it is more likely to be a bug. I don’t feel hot at all.

I’ve got a bottle of Lucazade and some polos which is helping a little.

Oh no hope you and toddler recover soon, hopefully a 24 hour thing.

Santastealer · 17/06/2021 12:50

Thank you.

DH is now also feeling queasy (although that may be as a result of looking after the 2 and 4 year old for a few hours this morning!)

motogogo · 17/06/2021 13:07

That's a bug! It's also a covid symptom, can you get a test?

Silversun83 · 17/06/2021 13:42

It's probably not a good idea to take the two-year-old out considering they're likely still contagious...

Hope you all feel better soon.

a8mint · 17/06/2021 14:38

If your DH is also coming down sick now, it does sound mote like abug. But Diarrhoea is definitely a symptom of too much sun. Plenty of rehydration fluids needed whatever it is
