AIBU wanting a wall hung, rimless toilet?

Having a big bathroom refurb done. I really want a wall hung, rimless toilet but DH thinks that it's risky because it could fall off the wall and he's also sceptical about the rimless feature - he thinks that it will either be too powerful and splash out of the toilet bowl or be too weak and not wash properly.

Has anyone had one of these toilets installed and what are your views?

A rimless loo?!

user1473878824 · 16/06/2021 23:14

I’ve just googled them and, as ridiculous as this sounds, they look super uncomfortable.

JackieTheFart · 16/06/2021 23:16

Like this?

We have them at work, they're fine. Why would they fall off the wall? Confused They do have some design go into them and they're not exactly unusual.

PortMerrionCentre · 16/06/2021 23:16

I have a rimless toilet though not wall hung. Haven’t noticed any difference from a standard toilet. Flushes well & doesn’t splash onto the floor

pumpkinpie01 · 16/06/2021 23:16

It's a no from me , I would be constantly worried about it falling off the wall , what's the advantage of one hung on the wall ?

JackieTheFart · 16/06/2021 23:17

Actually sorry, work ones aren't rimless, that sounds like a prison toilet.

None of the links I've looked at show a proper picture of it either.

shivawn · 16/06/2021 23:18

They're easier to clean I guess but I couldn't imagine getting passionate about which toilet to buy.

JackieTheFart · 16/06/2021 23:18

@pumpkinpie01 easier to clean the floor and makes the room look larger as more literal floor you can see.

justforthisnow · 16/06/2021 23:19

They are fab, Gelert I think are the go to brand.
But I am ruined since I saw Japanese loos,
I need one in my life, makes the wall hung flush ones look medieval!

Elouera · 16/06/2021 23:20

We have one very similar to the pic posted above thread. Its not the floating effect that is the issue, but the sheer lack of being able to access the cistern! Ours is hidden within the wall. It looks great, but if you need to check or access it, its a bloody pain! Not sure I'd bother, unless the access was simply removing say 2 screws.

marshmallowhearts · 16/06/2021 23:20

I have a rimless wall-hung toilet. It supports something like 150kg of weight. I wanted wall-hung to make it easier to mop the floor. The rimless feature is so good for cleaning the bowl but I have noticed it’s more limescale-y at the bottom.

They have a steel support system within the unit which is extremely strong.
DustyMaiden · 16/06/2021 23:26

I have two, no problems. Cistern accessible from the top.

Henrysmycat · 16/06/2021 23:26

I have both wall hung and rimless in 4 bathrooms. We used an Italian brand called Flaminia. They are not stuck on the wall like that. Come on! There’s a frame hidden in the wall. It’s been 4 years and they are easy to keep clean, don’t splash and the lasted even for 20st people using them. Also it’s easier to clean underneath it and the floor always look sleek.

Yeah me neither. I don't care what bog I've got. Similarly someone in work once spent ages researching kitchen bins. I was like who gives a fuck it's just a bin?
2bazookas · 16/06/2021 23:40

We've had a couple of them. Despite appearances they aren't "hanging on the wall", they are bolted on to a concealed very robust steel frame that's fixed on the floor inside the wall.

The bowl shape and water volume flush is designed not to splash over the edge. (Remember, the water comes from the hidden cistern, not at mains pressure ).

They are great; so much easier to clean around and look really neat. I really recommend a soft-close lid.

I don’t think wall hung is a good idea due to the issues accessing the cistern but I really want a rimless loo when we redo our bathroom because I want to avoid the disgusting stuff that seems to build up under the rim Envy < not envy

Most wall hung toilets have cisterns accessed from above the unit, easily usually.
user1471528245 · 16/06/2021 23:47

I have 3, Bathroom,en-suite downstairs, zero difference to any other toilet from the usage and flush point of view, never had an issue, they have be bolted to a frame that fixes to the wall so you do need to allow for the extra cost on top of the toilet, never had any issue with them and I have some heavyweight visitors, I suspect they must be load tested at manufacture, the absolute best thing about them is you can mop the floor beneath, no scummy toilet base stuck to the floor, I really couldn’t go back to a normal toilet for that reason alone

You access the system through the flush button panel, the frames come all built up it’s only a car of connecting the cold water feed and the toilet, they even have a built in shut off valve
Shamoo · 17/06/2021 00:11

Just to add we have three wall hung toilets and they are fine, flush well, no issues. Cisterns can be accessed via the flush mechanism.

PickAChew · 17/06/2021 00:14

They look like a bugger to fix if something goes wrong.

MountainDweller · 17/06/2021 00:21

We have a wall hung one - it's a pain if anything goes wrong with the flush! Otherwise easier to clean underneath and no yucky pedestal. It's kind of egg shaped with a rounded lid which might look great (DH's idea Hmm) but useless to sit on to dry yourself! I'm not sure about rimless, have never seen one in action.

RtHonNicolaMurray · 17/06/2021 00:31

Not ridiculous at all, we gave rimless wall-hung loos in both our bathrooms! Ours is a vortex flush, powerful but not ridiculously so and certainly doesn’t splash.

They are VERY securely attached to the wall and I’ve never heard of them falling off, and I’ve had hundreds of people of all shapes and sizes use my loo over the years with no issues. Biggest bonus is no manky rim to scrub, just bleach overnight and you’re set!

Downsides are a) that they’re pricey compared to a standard toilet (SIL is a designer for a fancy bathroom company so we got at cost) and b) they’re more fiddly to fit than a standard loo, although if you’re using a proper bathroom fitter and not your very-handy OH then this probably won’t factor into your decision Smile

NiceGerbil · 17/06/2021 00:42

They scare me.

They scare my 20 stone DH even more Grin

Agree with pp look expensive to fix if things go wrong.

The plus is easier to clean I suppose.
