AIBU to wonder why men are such shmucks

Just been on a longish bus/ tube/ overground journey and couldn't help noticing that the vast majority of those either not wearing masks or wearing them under their chin/ over their mouth only are men.

Obviously there are exceptions to this but my non scientific poll indicates that being a mask shmuck is largely a man thing. I just don't believe that all of them have exemptions unless being a man is an automatic pass to ignore the rules.

All I got from my teenage sons was 'it is because they are shmucks' but is it just this or is there some biological imperative that makes them behave this way.

Answers welcome ....

Others are less likely to challenge you if you are a man
(generally speaking and with all other factors held equal)

Notgoingtobefatformuchlonger · 16/06/2021 13:49

@Naunet

How?!!

In every way you can think!

Humans haven't always lived in high rise flats and eating from Tesco. It took a lot of work to get us here. And a lot of the risks would have been from men.

hamstersarse · 16/06/2021 13:50

And the point is these men are taking risks against a law that they clearly don't agree with

I'm glad we are not all compliant zombies. That is not a good place to be

Ahh yes, after stopping women from being allowed to play a part. Go men 👍

vimtosogood · 16/06/2021 13:51

Men grow virtually all the food and build all the buildings, both risky industries. Roughly 100 men killed at work per year, roughly 5 women.

You including prostitutes in that stat?

Women have always played a part. Where the fuck do you think the human race has come from? It's not men shagging men is it!

vimtosogood · 16/06/2021 13:54

@Naunet email the H&SE, it's their statistics.

Oh so it was ok to stop us owning property, working in certain industries, voting etc, because we could still have babies. Phew!!!
KateMuff · 16/06/2021 13:55

Because men aren't afraid of being publicly verbally abused like women are. People tend to only bollock people who are unlikely to attack them.

Who makes and enforces the rules about safety at work? Who owns and controls the building companies which force men to work in hazardous conditions?

So no then. I wonder why…

vimtosogood · 16/06/2021 13:56

Anyway, told to wear flimsy bits of cloths on face in public. Compliance generally good, despite sunflower lanyards being available on eBay for a fiver. Second wave still happened. :Shrug:

Egeegogxmv · 16/06/2021 13:56

Women grow new humans
We do all of the most important work

hamstersarse · 16/06/2021 13:57

We absolutely do!

I CBA having a row about a mask either.

Glad these 'schmucks' will do it for me

DownToTheSeaAgain · 16/06/2021 14:00

So @vimtosogood your thesis is that men are just so bloody fab that they should ignore the law.

This explains a lot.

Without wanting to point fingers are you a man by any chance?

@Overdueanamechange

I've noticed this too. They think not wearing a mask makes them look Badass, when actually they look like an inconsiderate twat.
Its amusing because I bet most of them think superhero’s look bad ass (or watch a fuck tonne of formulated superhero bullshit) and who all literally wear a mask.

It’s the mask that makes the hero.

Toottooot · 16/06/2021 14:04

Funnily enough the majority of people I see not wearing masks are female. Fancy that.

CheeseIsATypeOfMeat · 16/06/2021 14:07

I've mostly noticed women not wearing masks. Sometimes groups of them in the shops with those green daisy lanyard things. I think it's probably equal in terms of who is and isn't wearing them.

But we could start another debate about how repressed women are and how easy and great men have it.

Not entirely sure where you got that from. Could a law ever be so unjust it would be right to disobey it? If the masks worked the second wave wouldn't have happened. It must be 30 degrees in London today. Don't women feel the cold/prefer the heat more than men? I remember the hilarious and pathetic row about AC in offices. Maybe show some empathy, which women allegedly feel more. Grin

My research was conducted on the London transport system over the last 24 hours so not at all representative of the wider Uk. Maybe the 'man as non mask wearing schmuck but proud defender of British History' is a London thing.

And that is why we need risk takers who will move away from the crowd

In this case, it forces 'the authorities' to prove that masks work.

Which shouldn't be hard, right? With all that data clearly demonstrating they work......oh wait.

DownToTheSeaAgain · 16/06/2021 14:14

@vimtosogood I too was excessively hot on the underground. I am a 50 something menopausal woman. In the main they were aged 20-40. If anyone was suffering it was me but the difference is that I read the notices that say you have to wear a mask and do what it says.

I still maintain they believe they are somehow not required to follow the rules but still not sure why.

@DownToTheSeaAgain

Maybe so. More People, more problems.

Manzanilla55 · 16/06/2021 14:16

Personally I have noticed more women not wearing masks correctly. Showing their nose whereas mouth covered.
