I have had x4 PT sessions, completed a weekend of hiking for miles and miles in the mountains and eaten like a saint for two weeks, and the scales have not budged once!

How can this be?

Feeling deflated right now.

What have you been eating?

roobicoobi · 14/06/2021 00:23

Have you taken any measurements?

roobicoobi · 14/06/2021 00:24

Posted too soon...

The scales is not the only place you can find a result.

youOKhunn · 14/06/2021 00:54

Increased muscle and decrease fat? Do you feel better? Did you measure first? The scale isn't the best indicator unfortunately

LoveFall · 14/06/2021 00:54

You have probably converted some of that fat you want to lose to muscle, which is denser and thus tends to weigh more per volume.

Keep it up, you will see results if you are eating fewer calories than you need to maintain.

GNCQ · 14/06/2021 00:56

That's not a very long time!
One weekend of walking etc.... You need to be a bit more patient, you will get results, you will but it's about lifestyle change rather than a quick fix.

GetFitOrDieTrying · 14/06/2021 01:21

Thank you. I didn't take measurements. I feel fitter, it's been two weeks, but I honestly expected it to show on the scales.

In terms of what ive been eating, I'm on Slimming world but have made sure I'm eating plenty of fruit, veg, protein etc. Not using all my syns and have cut out sugar and bread.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 14/06/2021 02:26

if youre eating a lot of fruit you may be surprised how much sugar youre actually eating still, it can be loaded with it and more calorific than you realise.

AGirlsGotToDo · 14/06/2021 03:12

Is there a history of Hypothyroidism in your family?

Personally I would expect results in two weeks in terms of weight loss.

roobicoobi · 14/06/2021 07:08

I would advise a week of counting the calories you are eating whilst following SW. it can be an eye opener. Also, don't be disheartened by no scale change, it's not the best way to measure fat loss, only weight loss. You may have lost fat but are retaining a bit of fluid because you have just added in exercise- all very normal.

CorianderBee · 14/06/2021 12:38

It's only been two weeks not too months. I know it's defeating but it's not long enough to make much difference unless you're very big

AFS1 · 14/06/2021 14:38

Make sure you’re drinking loads. I find that I only lose weight if I’m drinking pints of water every day, particularly when it’s hot weather.

Paq · 14/06/2021 15:32

Are you actually overweight?

Are your scales reliable?

VeganCheesePlease · 14/06/2021 21:36

To echo PP, you haven't stated if you're overweight atm as that can play a part. Do you have weight to lose or are you just trying to get fitter?
I find that my body responds very well to running so that's the exercise I've stuck to, being good for keeping in shape but also good for head too.
What is your diet like? I have found intermittent fasting is what I respond to best. I have a body type that does lose weight quite easily, but I gain it easily too so it's like a double edged sword lol.

PurpleDaisies · 14/06/2021 21:40

How much do you have to lose? It’s slower as you’re closer to your ideal weight.

Palavah · 14/06/2021 21:41

Why are you bothered about what the scales say? If they had shown you'd lost 10kg but you felt less fit and less toned would that please you?

When i reduced my body fat by 30% i only lost 1kg.

AnnaSW1 · 14/06/2021 21:49

90% of weight loss training is done with your knife and fork.

ceeveebee · 14/06/2021 21:57

Is your period due? I usually put about 2-3 lbs on every month when my cycle starts.

GetFitOrDieTrying · 15/06/2021 01:19

Thank you for all your replies!

So yes, I am overweight (15 stone at 5ft 4)

I've done Slimming World before without exercise and lost weight really quick for the first few weeks. This time I'm training, doing cardio and weights.

I use My Fitness Pal to track calories and I'm averaging 1100 per day. I have cut out refined carbs, reduced sugar intake drastically, fill up on veg more than fruit but obviously still have it. I've had no alcohol etc. I don't eat meat - so not sure if I'm missing a trick somewhere!?

OP posts:
GetFitOrDieTrying · 15/06/2021 01:25

Sorry, dont know how to reply individually.

I'm not due my period, no, and there is no family history of thyroid problems.

I am on sertraline if that makes a difference?

I feel fitter and I guess that's the main thing. But going for weekly weigh ins knowing the consultant will ask me what I want to do different for the week ahead is frustrating, as I am eating well and exercising!

OP posts:
Petersmommy · 15/06/2021 04:53

You're body thinks it's starving and has gone into starvation mode. You are not eating near enough calories to sustain that kind of exercise. j

sansucre · 15/06/2021 05:31

Two weeks is nothing! And it is great you are feeling fitter.

Keep doing what you're doing and up your protein, drink more water and use your clothes to guide you.

If there are no changes after three months of what you're doing, then it is time for a re-think, but, so long as you are eating properly, then there will be a change - weight loss is 80% diet, 20% exercise. Maybe add in some heavy weight lifting as this will build muscle which will burn body fat.

Good luck and keep up the good work Smile

roobicoobi · 15/06/2021 06:57

You are not eating enough.

roobicoobi · 15/06/2021 06:58

Ah, the shame element. Stop going. It's a bizarre cult.

tropicalwaterdiver · 15/06/2021 07:11

Exclude fruits and add more protein and healthy fat for couple of weeks and see if any difference.
