I don’t spend money every day; admittedly when I’m at my office for work it’s harder not to but i probably have at least 3 or so days a weeks where I don’t spend money

Matilda1981 · 13/06/2021 19:34

I should think I spend money every day!

TentTalk · 13/06/2021 19:36

Depends what you mean. As in on coffee or lunch or online shopping then I think it's common and "normal" in this consumerist society. I don't think it's good though. I aim to have spend free days.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 13/06/2021 19:38

What is it to you? If they can afford it and it's not coming out of your pocket, it's not your business. Live and let live.

User4544 · 13/06/2021 19:39

I don’t have a problem with it. I just assumed most people would have days where they don’t need to spend money.

What a stupid thread. You’re spending money every day whether you realise it or not through tax, bills, interest etc;

Vetyveriohohoh · 13/06/2021 19:41

Yeah most days, between buying things online, popping out for milk, a takeaway, school wanting money for something or other.... always seems to be something

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 13/06/2021 19:42

Today: pre booked farm: bought an ice cream
Tomorrow: kids drs appointment, train ticket
Tuesday; food shop
Wednesday: likely some lunch as taking the kids out
Thursday: could possibly not spend…unless I Amazon order things I need (currently filling a basket)

Etc- I could spend nothing when I was working, on Mat leave with two kids, v hard.

LawnFever · 13/06/2021 19:42

What does it matter to you if some people spend money every day, if they can afford it why not?

HeronLanyon · 13/06/2021 19:42

When I was working away from the home I spent money every day (occasionally maybe a Sunday would be spend free). I did consciously have maybe 3 days a month where I would make my own lunch and spend nothing. More of an experiment.
Since wfh I can go several days without spending anything (including online) just depends what I’m up to.

ZenNudist · 13/06/2021 19:43

I spend money every day. Utilities etc. Or activities which are prepaid then used up, or anything really.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 13/06/2021 19:46

@LawnFever

What does it matter to you if some people spend money every day, if they can afford it why not?
Why do people who clearly hate the thread topic comment
TheMethodicalMeerkat · 13/06/2021 19:50

Surely in order to say it’s a lot you’d need to first know how much they’re spending each day though? Even then what one person considers a lot another might see as perfectly normal given people’s disposable income and priorities differ hugely. And that’s before you bear in mind that if you have rent/mortgage, utilities, insurance, a loan etc you are actually spending daily even if you don’t physically go to a shop or put your card details into a site.

NoSquirrels · 13/06/2021 19:50

I’ve spent nothing today. I spent nothing yesterday. But my DH did the food shopping and there’s a few things we need to order to replace. I spent quite a bit on Friday, not all of it essential by any stretch.

When we do need to spend money it might be quite a lot in one go... or there might be a week we spend in dribs and drabs. I’m not sure ‘no spend days’ matter, rather that you’re not mindlessly spending just because. If you need what you purchase, or if you can afford it and enjoy it, it’s not usual or unusual.

IncessantNameChanger · 13/06/2021 19:52

In theory I could spend once a week doing my weekly shop, or I could buy a little every day. Overall it has no bearing on how much I spend surely? I could spend £10 a day or £70 a week. I'm still £70 down.

The reality is spend far less post pandemic as there is not many places to go any more and when you can go out it's a pita. So I would rather put on leggings and tshirt and go for a walk. Pre covid I bought some nice outfits for weekly coffee meets with mates or drinks with dh. Not any more

KentuckyCriedFricken · 13/06/2021 19:55

Everyone does things differently. There was a time when I was living in London, had no car, so I bought the fresh vegetables and whatever else was needed each day. I didn’t do a weekly food shop. It was spread over the course of the week. I may have spent less than other people over a week but it was every day rather than once a week.

16purplecolour16 · 13/06/2021 19:58

@IncessantNameChanger - agree; could spend dribs and drabs or one big spend, either way same amount leaving bank account. I spend everyday but always thought out, rarely impulsive. I have no debt and low income. In fact because I am low income, probably wiser to spend every day as I buying what I need, when I need it. Little waste.

NiceGerbil · 13/06/2021 19:59

Can you define spending money?

Most mortgages and loans etc are calculated daily I think now so that is everyday spending.

I use gas and electricity every day and DH uses a car for work.

What about depreciation? Losing money every day on resale value, wear and tear...

I assume you mean cash in the shops?

Some people don't do a weekly shop but pick up what they need as they go. I prefer that as the supermarket is near, it gets me out and I can buy what we fancy/ pick up bargains and it's always fresh...

What sort of spending OP?

readwhatiactuallysay · 13/06/2021 20:01

What does it matter to you if some people spend money every day, if they can afford it why not?

Surely most threads don't directly affect or really matter the responders, but they give an opinion, as that is what this is for.
Surely it's more crazy for people to comment on it when they find it ridiculous.

Yes I spend most days, wether that be out and about or be online at home. I have a family member who doesn't spend on shopping (for those involving taxes etc) often at all, she is a saver and doesn't need anything, so just banks everything.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/06/2021 20:06

I spend money most days, sometimes just a couple of quid. Yesterday I did a food shop. Today I paid cash for DS's hobby, paid for school dinners online and bought a takeaway coffee. Tomorrow I know I need to pick up some milk on my way home from work. Tuesday I will probably go for a coffee at a cafe after work while DS goes to a club. On Wednesday I'm going for a tattoo removal session so will pay cash for that. Thursday is DS's birthday so I'm going to rent a movie for him and get some snacks. Friday will need to do another food shop and probably buy some alcohol for the weekend. Saturday we are having a day out at the farm for DS's birthday so will buy food, etc...

On and on and on...

Elbels · 13/06/2021 20:09

Some days I spend nothing (but in the background am paying for mortgage, bills and food).

Some days I spend hundreds of pounds.

I really don't see your point.

Strugglingtodomybest · 13/06/2021 20:09

Yabu. I do a weekly food shop, so can go some days without spending anything. My mum, who is in her 70s, like to walk to Tesco's every day and pick up something for dinner. She probably spends less in a week than me, but spends every day.

MissCruellaDeVil · 13/06/2021 20:15

I spend money every day!

MintyMabel · 13/06/2021 20:16

It depends where I am. If WFH I likely don’t spend money unless I need stuff online. If I’m out and about I usually buy lunch.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 13/06/2021 20:20

I'm not on the breadline so if I need something I buy it regardless of whether I bought something the day before. Isn't that quite normal?

Each to their own, what others choose to do has no affect on me nor would I alter my life based on what they do, that would be a little unusual
