Would you put a 6 month old in a paddling pool?

DS is 6 months, he can sit unaided. We have a baby pool but it says for ages 1 up. Would you put a 6 month old in it? We'd obviously supervise him

Yes of course, I would get in with him or kneel by the edge

Griefmonster · 12/06/2021 14:14

Only if I was holding them or in with them.

Einszwei · 12/06/2021 14:14

Yes...no different to a bath.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 12/06/2021 14:14

Yes whilst either DH or I were holding them.

KM38 · 12/06/2021 14:15

@Margilse Our 7 month old has been in his a few times already this summer and his says 2years+ 😊 We’ve kept it shallow, he’s obviously fully supervised at all times (one of us sits right next to the pool), and I’ve filled it with warm water and kept it in the shade 😊 he absolutely loves it!

VettiyaIruken · 12/06/2021 14:15

Yes, as long as I was in there too.

RaspberryThief · 12/06/2021 14:15

Assuming you're there and watching him like a hawk to make sure he doesn't slip underneath the water, isn't in the beating sun etc, I don't see how it's any different to putting him in the bath.

Crowsaregreat · 12/06/2021 14:15

I would, but at that age you can also use a baby bath or any other container! We used one of those underbed storage tubs, easier to supervise and you don't have to inflate anything!

bloodywhitecat · 12/06/2021 14:16

Yes I have (supervised at all times of course) and in warm water not cold.

whatswithtodaytoday · 12/06/2021 14:17

Definitely! Not with freezing cold water from the tap though, I found mine got cold very quickly at that age - either leave it in the sun to warm up or put a bucket of warm in as well.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/06/2021 14:18

He will soon let you know if es cold!

itsgettingwierd · 12/06/2021 14:51

Yeah I would - well I did!

Use to use warm water and bubbles, place in shade and sit right next door to ds.

We actually lived abroad so we did it from younger. We used a paddling pool and put ds in it inside a washing basket 🤣 (but he could sit up with very little support from 4 months and alone from 5)

Pinkblueberry · 12/06/2021 14:53

Of course. No different to a bath surely - if they don’t like it because it’s too cold they’ll quickly let you know.

surreygirl1987 · 12/06/2021 15:22

Absolutely! Just make sure he is watched like a hawk.

BetterThanKleenex · 12/06/2021 15:27

Yep, you could sit in with him or by the side of the pool so you can watch him. My nephew is almost 7 months and loves the pool, even if there's barely enough water to cover the bottom.

InnaBun · 12/06/2021 15:32

As long as you are sat right next to him and not on your phone, 100% supervisor, like he's in the bath.

Cocomarine · 12/06/2021 15:50

Why wouldn’t you?

User52739 · 12/06/2021 15:55

Yes, I do it all the time. I just keep a hand on him the whole time.

FrumpyBetty · 12/06/2021 16:06

Yes I would. Stick a rubber ring on him too.

SleepyPartyTime · 12/06/2021 16:08

Of Course, but I'd stay right by him the whole time.

HectorGloop · 12/06/2021 16:09

Agree with pp's, it doesn't have to be a paddling pool. If you've got a big plastic crate, you can use that. Less water, no inflating. I used a Really Useful Box when mine were little.

TheGumption · 12/06/2021 16:09

I don't understand why it would be an issue?

ChocolateCakeYum · 12/06/2021 16:10

Absolutely.

As long as he’s fully supervised he’ll be fine.

Staffy1 · 12/06/2021 16:19

If you are supervising properly it's fine.

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 12/06/2021 16:50

Yes definitely as long as I was close enough to catch him immediately if he fell backwards
