To hate summer Saturday nights

I’m always on my own, stuck at home listening to my arsehole neighbours while the rest of the world seems to be in a pub garden having fun. I’m really sick of it - at least in the winter you can cosy up with nice good and Strictly but in summer it feels wrong sitting at home alone.

Haven't you got any friends who you could go with?

NcagainNC · 12/06/2021 09:57

Yanbu. I feel exactly the same

MegBusset · 12/06/2021 09:59

I'd go out for a long walk, drive to the coast, go to the cinema?

Herewegoagainok · 12/06/2021 09:59

I know what you mean op! I thought similar with last bank hol. I don't really want to get blotto just because the next day is a bank hol monday but then I feel left out when my Sunday is still very sunday-ish Grin

sausageisassausagedoes · 12/06/2021 10:00

Why can't you go out?

seashells11 · 12/06/2021 10:00

I often feel the same. I feel like I'm missing out on life and imagine everyone else doing exciting things. They won't be though.

TheQueef · 12/06/2021 10:01

I get this feeling sometimes.
Like I ought to be doing the weekend.

I've been waiting on a book so that's the next two weekends sorted.
Need a couple of podcast for standby though.

Do you like being out Martini?

NeedNewKnees · 12/06/2021 10:02

I love sitting outside in the garden in the evening with a cold glass of wine. Sometimes the bird song, sometimes reading, sometimes on the phone chatting with my Dad.

RockstarMartini · 12/06/2021 10:08

I’d love to be out but I’m single and haven’t got that many friends locally - trying to rectify that but not easy with COVID 🙄

Sometimes I’m happy just pottering in my garden or enjoying a good book (if arsehole neighbours don’t ruin the peace) but sometimes I really miss getting dressed up a bit and having some fun

I think the constant highlight reel of social media tricks us into fomo.

I know what you mean about the whole getting ready and out out. It's fallen off a cliff with covid and now I wonder if I ever did like it!

sausageisassausagedoes · 12/06/2021 10:24

Would you be up to going out by yourself? I'm single and absolutely love going to a nice restaurant on a Saturday night, book in hand. No one judges or cares and it's so much more fun than that trapped at home feeling, which I totally get, believe me!

newnortherner111 · 12/06/2021 10:41

The issue seems to me to be your neighbours. Can you do anything to make them less painful?

Ugzbugz · 12/06/2021 10:56

I hate the hot days in the UK as its although you have to be out all day and night doing something outisde! I don't have a garden, still restrictions so can't just pop to the pub or whatever and just makes me feel shit. I had SAD in summer Confused

But all this social media is really one hour of the day and probably most people are dealing with over hot, fed up kids and can't sleep etc, roll on autumn

RockstarMartini · 12/06/2021 10:58

I’d feel a bit pathetic going to a restaurant on my own on a Saturday night - fair play to anyone who does though, aware that’s my issue.

I live in a terrace so my neighbours are very in my face, one side i barely know they’re there but the others have noisy dogs, a constant stream of visitors, loud arguments and are just generally gobby and selfish. I don’t think I can really do anything about it though, technically they’re not doing anything wrong but I wish they knew how much it affects my life and could show a bit of consideration.

I'm single and love going out on my own. Coffee shop, bistro, cinema, or even just sitting in the city centre outside Starbucks with a book or my current work in progress (writer).

I lost all my friends during my divorce and I have no intention of trying to make more, so it's just me and my DC for the long haul now.

Rabbitheadlights · 12/06/2021 12:25

I don't know what the answer is but I feel similar DP is a chef so weekends are pretty lonely affairs all year round really :(

motherrunner · 12/06/2021 12:29

I love being on my own! Get yourself some good headphones and sit out in your garden and ignore your noisy neighbours. I would also go out if you want, just book a table for one! I am married and have DC but I still life to go out on my own.

newnortherner111 · 12/06/2021 12:42

If you think the dogs are noisy because of neglect then contact the RSPCA. If you think they are taking banned drugs then the police. Though I suspect neither apply.

WinterSunglasses · 12/06/2021 12:52

Cinema is the best option for a solo outing if you're not keen on dining out alone. Make it your film night for the week, take some nice snacks. No one is looking at you or can see you're alone once the lights go down.

RockstarMartini · 12/06/2021 14:42

I don’t think the neighbours are doing anything illegal - well I’ve a bit of smelt weed but nothing else. The dogs don’t seem neglected just badly trained and yelled at a lot.

I don’t suppose I’d mind so much if I wasn’t there by myself night after night. I could try the cinema or whatever but really I’d just like some company.

I hear you. I've recently ditched my two closest female 'friends' after realising (Covid has helped) that they are not friends at all and haven't been for a very long time. All very mean girls. So phone doesn't go as much at all now however it's brought a weird sense of calm and nervous excitement about what the future holds.

Anyway, my other friends are either partnered up, have kids or drifted away etc and my lovely younger newish flatmate has got herself a man so isn't around at weekends which leaves me with only own company on a sunny Saturday. I feel a bit of a sad sack looking at groups/couples going to the park etc. I'm single/no kids.

If I was abroad I'd have no problem taking myself out to a restaurant solo however I just wouldn't do it here.

CookPassBabtridge · 12/06/2021 14:58

Could you go on a dating app and meet up with someone? On bumble for example you can just meet as friends.

Getafuckinggripman · 12/06/2021 15:08

Go to a pub or restaurant on your own and take your phone so you have something to look at. Then, buy a bottle of wine on your way home, sit in your garden with some earphones on and get pissed watching YouTube videos x
