Chased by a tractor

Charmtaste · 09/06/2021 01:00

Today I took my kids out for a walk. We went to a local park that is massive but deserted during the day. A tractor with a lawn cutter on the back was mowing the main field so we stuck to the playground. The tractor came right up to the playground and made my kids scream it was so close. I took them to adjacent fields to get away. The tractor followed. We were walking around the edge of a football pitch and the tractor kept coming straight for us to the point that I had to push the pram behind a tree. He was not mowing in straight lines and wherever we went on the footpath he came straight at us. I left the path and went to an adjoining basketball court and he came straight at us there even though the football pitch wasn’t fully mowed. It was such an odd and frightening experience. No matter where I walked he aimed at us. Eventually I parked my kids behind a tree and started filming him. At that point he stopped.
Aibu to report this to the council? Even typing it makes me sound paranoid but it was terrifying.

@BackBeatTheWordisOnTheStreet the fact we were trying to get away from him and one of my kids was crying made it obvious that we were not enjoying his attentions.

That sounds very frightening and the man driving the tractor sounds like a psycho. Definitely report to the council and/or police.

Tal45 · 09/06/2021 09:14

What a dick. Report it to the council.

UhtredRagnarson · 09/06/2021 09:17

Please report to both the police and the council OP.

ikeepseeingit · 09/06/2021 09:34

Report to the council AND the police. Driving a tractor at someone is very dangerous behaviour. I once rang the police when I saw a car driving at some teenagers in the park, they had helicopters out and a lot of police came. They will take you seriously, tell them you managed to get a video of some of it too.

mam0918 · 09/06/2021 09:36

wouldnt you be able to tell he had been swerving all over to chase you? (random patterns cut in the grass)

Take photos of that and report it, at minimum if he was as erratic as you say they will assume he was drunk at work.

stackemhigh · 09/06/2021 09:39

You should have called the police as it was happening or soon after.

Not sure why have you have left it so long?

Ozanj · 09/06/2021 09:41

Are you absolutely sure he was chasing you and not just following the path people (including you) normally take in the park? The council doesn’t cut all the grass in large parks just the most commonly used bits so it’s possible there were overlaps. Plus many people in these types of jobs (including road sweepers) lose themselves in it and don’t realise how aggressively they’re driving - def report it but don’t use this as a reason not to go back.

randomkey123 · 09/06/2021 09:41

He'll either be a council worker or a contractor so yes do report it.

That must have been terrifying.

billy1966 · 09/06/2021 09:48

What if ye had fallen as ye ran away.

This is both a police matter and a council one.

Extremely threatening.

stackemhigh · 09/06/2021 09:50

@billy1966 are ye now using medieval English? Wink

Charmtaste · 09/06/2021 09:56

@Ozanj I thought this could be the case at first but his driving was so erratic and he had no reason to cross the path and follow us onto the basketball court.

giletrouge · 09/06/2021 09:57

Please report OP. This is a man who has lost the plot and could cause serious harm to the next woman he decides to intimidate.
I'm so glad you and your children are safe. You must have been terrified. Take care of yourselves. Flowers

PinkLilyPinkRose · 09/06/2021 10:12

What a horrible bastard. I’ve read a link on here before to one of those incel groups about men following solitary women down the street, just to feel the power of being able to frighten them whilst doing something that could be portrayed a ‘not a crime.’ The linked post had a man describing the experience and recommending it to other loser men. This sounds like the same idea. The sick bastard will have enjoyed frightening a woman and her children.

Report it. I hope it is taken seriously.

notthemum · 09/06/2021 10:16

@Stackemhigh.
The OP was terrified. As she said she was also sleep deprived. It is not always possible to think of the best form of action at that time.
Earlier this morning she has obviously given this some thought and wanting a bit of clarification and support she came on here. Most people were horrified and gave that support reinforcing that she was quite right and should report the incident.
You however with the tone of your text appear to be almost chastising her for not acting immediately.
Where was the need to be so rude ?

Pinkbrush · 09/06/2021 10:19

Please tell the police before he ends up harming someone. Sorry you went through that.

JonahofArk · 09/06/2021 10:20

Honestly if you've got some footage that can identify him I'd go to the police.

🤣I like a good old ye...being an old woman👍

The quicker you report to the police the more chance they have of catching the man.

Sorry if my posts don’t have enough unicorn emojis and xxxx to suit you.

Alonelonelyloner · 09/06/2021 10:22

Have you reported it yet OP? You should. I would also put it on a local social media page just to reemphasise the point.
Your kids will have been extra scared because you were and they rely on you to be their safe space. This malicious idiot damaged this. Make sure the Council know and tell them you will be taking it to the police (even if you in the end don't).

stackemhigh · 09/06/2021 10:22

🤣I like a good old ye...being an old woman👍

I love it 😀

notthemum · 09/06/2021 10:23

Op, this is horrendous. Please report. It is highly possible that this arsehole has done this before and will continue to do it for as long as he gets away with it.
You are definitely NBU to report him to police and the council.
Please ask what action if any they will take and stress to them how frightened the children were and how intimidated you felt. Best wishes. 💐💐

Topseyt · 09/06/2021 10:25

How terrifying! Yes, report to both the local council and to the police. This morning. Supply them with your video so that they can make efforts to identify him.

I am glad none of you were hurt.

Taikoo · 09/06/2021 10:26
@Taikoo

Wow what a very rude response are you always an arse? If you read my comment the tone was very polite and I just asked for clarification as it's difficult to picture and a very strange and unusual thing to happen.
Oh, for heaven's sake.
The contrarians are out in force today.

Ughmaybenot · 09/06/2021 10:28

How utterly, utterly bizarre and terrifying for you. Absolutely report this!
