I think this is shocking! How can you believe the reviews on Amazon if they've all been bought in this manner? AIBU to contact Trading Standards (or whoever) about this? Can't believe they actually do this.

I wish someone would offer me that I buy off them all the time

SchrodingersImmigrant · 08/06/2021 16:02

Shocking😂
No. It's pretty common, but man! I only had tenners offered.

As with all reviews anywhere, they have to be taken with a pinch of salt. I honestly don't think TS would do anything

TakeYourFinalPosition · 08/06/2021 16:02

Is it from Amazon, or a marketplace seller on Amazon? I’m pretty sure it’s against Amazon’s terms - I’d guess it’s a seller; and complain to Amazon too.

FleetwoodRaincoat · 08/06/2021 16:02

Yes, but don't you see my point? If all the 5 star reviews on there are bought, then you'll end up buying crap, which you thought was good because of the reviews. I think this is dishonest.

Nobody has offered me money - why not?

Leftphalange · 08/06/2021 16:06

I have never been offered one of these and I buy all the time, wish I was!

But yes I see what you mean. I imagine it is a seller so you could report to amazon

RaspberryCoulis · 08/06/2021 16:07

Agree this isn't "Amazon". It's a third party cheeky fucker advertising through Amazon.

DorisFlies · 08/06/2021 16:08

I had one of these- just ignored it and vowed never to use them again!

I left a one star review saying I’d received one of these. It didn’t get past the review police the first time so I worded it differently and it got through.
I agree with you.

MissConductUS · 08/06/2021 16:11

Amazon actively looks for and removes reviews that it thinks have been solicited.

Report it to them.

Nice one
CovidCorvid · 08/06/2021 16:15

I've had similar approaches - always from marketplace sellers. I view all reviews with a pinch of salt due to this.

But then I've also had m&s and Joules decline to put negative reviews of mine of particular products up for "not meeting standards". So m&s I said a particular top the material was very thin and flimsy. Joules I said about some wellibobs leaking. It's not like I was slandering them! So I think they're all manipulating reviews.

Journeynotdestination · 08/06/2021 16:17

I had this for a jaw toner I bought, which was awful & potentially dangerous. I sent it back & wrote a review saying they’d offered me a £25 gift card for a positive review and Amazon refused to post the review!!! I think they know about it & take a cut! I was appalled.

LFQuery · 08/06/2021 16:19

I must have spent about £10 million on Amazon in the last 10 years. Never been offered bribes. I can’t decide if I am relieved or disappointed.

stackemhigh · 08/06/2021 16:20

Wow are you one of those verified/trusted reviewers?

I never leave reviews and buy very little from them so doubt I'd get offered this.

TotorosCatBus · 08/06/2021 16:22

Are you sure of from Amazon and not a seller on Amazon?

It's well known that you can pay people to write positive reviews.

Faranth · 08/06/2021 16:23

I had a 10 quid one for some screen protectors. The things only cost 7 quid Confused

cupsofcoffee · 08/06/2021 16:24

Online reviews can't be trusted anyway.

Pretty much every single website "vets" reviews and won't publish anything too negative.

I tried a free trial of "BusterBox" for my dog - he ended up quite sick from one of the items in there, and when I complained and got nowhere, I posted a review which summarily got deleted for "going against community standards" Hmm

AllOptionsAreOnTheTable · 08/06/2021 16:25

I've been offered money off vouchers by Amazon marketplace sellers. Always turned them down.

M&S are so sly with their reviews. I don't think they have ever published any of my - reasonable - negative reviews. And then we have Purple Bricks who insist that every negative review is taken down on the premise of the reviewer having to prove that they were a client of PB. I'm sure most people don't bother digging out the proof and sending it off, so the negative reviews remain deleted.

Afraid I take every review with a pinch of salt these days.

readytosell · 08/06/2021 16:25

I've had a couple of these.

To be fair the products I bought I would have left five start reviews anyway.

Shrug. I'm a capitalist, baby.

MightNeedABiggerGlass · 08/06/2021 17:27

I got £2.50 in exchange for reviewing something I'd bought, no mention of how many stars I had to give.

But it's dishonest, so yeah they should complain Most people can't afford to lose money Hmm back at you
