To think face cream/ sun cream shouldn't sting eyes if direct contact isn't made?

Yet Lidl and Aldi brands sting like hell...i don't have this issue with L'oreal. I can only assume that these cheaper brands run more causing irritation. In tears due to factor 50 lidl sun cream. It's not ok.

Pretty much all sunscreen does this to me. Powder sunscreen is the answer.

MustDust · 08/06/2021 15:45

I'm trying to find the holy grail between doesn't sting and doesn't stain, nivea doesn't hurt but turns whites yellow and the no stain oils are terrible for burning my eyes.

Serpenta · 08/06/2021 15:46

The only time this has happened to me is when I tried Astral. Made my eyes unbearably itchy.

malificent7 · 08/06/2021 15:47

I should have learned my lesson by now!

Im struggling today with an Estee Lauder spf 15 tinted moisturiser 😭. I also have an Elemis one that does the same. Ive never heard of a powder sunscreen, can you tell us a bit more please?

doadeer · 08/06/2021 15:53

I wear factor 50 every day and I also am quite a hot person, when I first started doing this it did make my eyes sting but it doesn't seem to now... Maybe just got used to it? I start day with a dedicated face cream but when I'm out I just stick my son's kids factor 50 on.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 08/06/2021 15:59

Yeah it’s annoying! I bought a fabulous BB cream that makes my skin look amazing. But it has spf in it and about half an hour later my eyes are streaming Sad. So frustrating.

malificent7 · 08/06/2021 16:00

I just bought a kids suncream in the hope its less stingy ...while we are at it i just want to moan about the fact that hardly any moisteriser has factor 50 although sun is a major cause of aging.. If u are reading this beauty companies...please take note!
Factor 50 , non itchy, non staining creme under 20 quid.

I use the Nivea factor 50 especially for face and have never had any eye issues.

stackemhigh · 08/06/2021 16:26

I bought the Nivea Sun Kids Sensitive Fragrance Free 50+ SPF roll on from Home Bargains from £2.99. I have sensitive, rosacea prone skin and as long as I don't rub it in my eyes there is no stinging at all.

I've seen Boots does a similarly priced one as well so will try that too.

MissChanandlerBong90 · 08/06/2021 16:30

I find that using mineral, rather than chemical, sunscreen helps with this. Chemical sunscreens make my eyes stream but mineral doesn’t.

it depends on whether you are allergic to Oxybenzone . check out whether your cream/suncream has it. Plenty dont

Mumdiva99 · 08/06/2021 16:40

Oh goodness I spent all last week with stingy watery eyes because I had used sunscreen on my face. So following this thread with interest.....

I thought powder sunscreen might be the answer until i read it shouldn't be your primary form of skin defence - just for touch ups during the day.

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/06/2021 16:41

A big hat, shade and sunglasses are my primary defence!

stackemhigh · 08/06/2021 17:10

@MrsTerryPratchett you're just throwing shade now...literally Wink

MummytoCSJH · 08/06/2021 17:23

I use the Malibu spf 50 face cream and don't have any problems, it's really cheap in savers/pound shop too!

LuaDipa · 08/06/2021 17:27

It’s not just the cheap brands. Ultrasun, Lancaster and Lancôme facial spf factor 50 all make my eyes water. I always just assumed that I had sensitive eyes tbh.

Blossomandbee · 08/06/2021 17:34

Most face products sting my eyes these days or make them red, puffy and watery. I'm currently using a cheap Nivea sensitive face cream with spf in, it's the only moisturiser I can use. Malibu sunscreens are good, as recommended upthread

Ionacat · 08/06/2021 17:46

I use La Roche Posey factor 50 ultralight invisible fluid on my face and that doesn’t sting my eyes. I’ve tried lots and nothing has worked until that.

PawsQueen · 08/06/2021 17:48

It's really common with sunscreen
I have three that don't sting... these two pictured and the fenty one

There's no pain like sunscreen running into the eyes! The more you wipe/rub, the worse it seems to get also until you can properly take it off... and even then it doesn't always

Sciurus83 · 08/06/2021 18:10

I get this too, it's not just price related I've had issues with more expensive products too. I get on really well with La Roche Posay fluid, the thankfully now released much cheaper garnier version (owned by same company, I can't tell them apart), and ultrasun. I think they don't put factor 50 in moisturizer because the amount you would need to use (and also reapply regularly) would be a lot more than the normal user would apply so wouldn't actually reach the factor 50. Spf in moisturizer is only really meant to be a nice extra, rather than the actual line of defence. The newer ones eg that garnier one in PawsCream post have skincare ingredients eg hyaluronic acid in as well so you can use in place of a moisturizer IYSWIM

Yubaba · 08/06/2021 18:17

I use the Biore watery essence spf 50 from Japan, and it doesn’t sting. It’s not white like normal creams it’s more like a gel.
