Heavy painful period at work excuse to leave?

missrleanorr · 08/06/2021 11:23

I'm in so much pain at work desperate to go home never had a period so heavy and painful. I feel bad leaving as their is only me and another girl on until the other girls come in later.

What kind of excuse can I use to go home I've only been here a couple of months so don't want it to look bad on me!

Perhaps say you have a stomach upset?

stackemhigh · 08/06/2021 11:25

Abosolutely go home.

Hope you feel better. Get some pills in you and a hot water bottle Cake Brew

QuestionableMouse · 08/06/2021 11:26

Just be honest? If not d&v is a good choice - tends not to prompt many questions.

VeganCheesePlease · 08/06/2021 11:37

Absolutely go home and rest.
Funny story to make you laugh - I was once at work in grey trousers. Period came early and a bit soaked through! To make matters worse, I had to sit down with my manager (male, lovely guy but was terrified of period talk) and explain why I had to go home. It was so embarrassing. But looking back, definitely a bit funny.

missrleanorr · 08/06/2021 11:57

My manager isn't in our office I work in the hospital so I know she's going to want me to wait for her to come down and speak to me first.

Don't know whether to be honest or just say somethings happened at home I need to dash

Be honest.

Moonshine11 · 08/06/2021 12:26

Be honest op.
There is nothing worse

Zealois · 08/06/2021 12:26

I've gone home from work with period pains a few times, I just say "I'm not feeling well, I need to go home and get some meds and rest". Nobody has ever asked further questions.

redheadwitch · 08/06/2021 12:29

If a man was bleeding heavily from an orifice with severe pain, he would not be thinking twice about whether it was reason enough to go home, or whether he had to make up a fake excuse as justification to do so.

Go home and rest, OP!

RickiTarr · 08/06/2021 12:33

If you’re in the kind of workplace where “heavy bleeding” isn’t an acceptable reason to give, I’d have no scruples about using the euphemism “migraine” or “stomach upset”.

GreenTeaBlackCoffeeAndRedWine · 08/06/2021 12:35

Be honest, especially if your manager is female. She will understand.

If you really can't be honest, say you're getting a migraine, or you have an upset stomach.

4PawsGood · 08/06/2021 12:36

Don’t say stomach upset as you’ll need to stay off for 47 hours or have some people not happy that you’re back.

MatildaTheCat · 08/06/2021 12:41

@GreenTeaBlackCoffeeAndRedWine I’m guessing you don’t work in a hospital? Honestly they are the worst for treating staff badly when they are unwell.

I’d agree about being honest if possible but be absolutely clear you are going home because otherwise they’ll quite likely tell you to take some paracetamol and do your best. Male manager is more likely to be sympathetic in my experience due to embarrassment.

Hope you feel better soon OP.

Pinkypink · 08/06/2021 12:44

I'd say migraine

fashionablefennel · 08/06/2021 12:49

Unfortunately many work places won't look too kindly at someone taking a day off or 2 every month.

Wrotten · 08/06/2021 12:57

I once had to leave work for the same reason. Told my male boss. Don't even worry about it.

XXXBigBouncyBlondesXXX · 08/06/2021 13:23

I can’t imagine it’ll be received very well by your manager

missrleanorr · 08/06/2021 13:48

I had to come up with an excuse I know she would of said to take some paracetamol and see how I go and I can't be bothered. She's not a very nice manager.

Home now feeling slightly guilty but ah well Blush

@ if she's not a very nice manager then stuff her! Don't lose sleep over it and never feel guilty for taking time off when needed. Ignore the 'heroes' who try to downplay woman's issues and would have soldiered on( women can be the worst for this) No medals for staying in work when sick and nobody cares about the 'ever so brave ones' except themselves.

Have you already tried painkillers and basics like heat? I as a manager would expect you to manage the pain if you are able to do so. If you've tried those and it is still too painful for you to feel you can work then yes you should go home.

WettyHainthrop · 08/06/2021 15:11

Was this really about period pain?

BashfulClam · 08/06/2021 15:16

I did it once. I had a really awful period, painkillers weren’t cutting it. I went home bc and K at un bed with a hit water bottle.

You don't sound like you are talking about an adult here.

RunningFromInsanity · 08/06/2021 15:25

You couldn’t be bothered to try painkillers to kill your pain?

I’m thinking the period pain was just an excuse to skip work becaue you don’t like your manager, and that doesn’t reflect well on women at all.

missrleanorr · 08/06/2021 15:33

@RunningFromInsanity why would I need to do that for? I barely see my manager she pops down every few days, very odd comment.
