Overhanging/blocking my driveway

Replica99 · 07/06/2021 18:54

So I wanted to go somewhere, only to find a car overhanging my driveway enough that I cant take my car out. Whats worse, this car usually does this once a week or so for around 10 minutes.

I havent said anything before, as I havent needed to take my car out at the same time before. Today I did, so when the driver came back to her car I told her not to block my drive, as obviously she shouldnt be parking over a dropped kerb.

But the worst thing is, theres always space behind her car. So she can park and reverse it, and not block my drive. But instead she is just lazy and/or in a rush to pick up her child.

Her response - Im going now / im only picking someone up.

How would you all have reacted and/or should I have handled it any different?

What sort of person thinks its okay to overhand someone elses driveway? Especially when there is loads of space to park without doing so. Makes me angry.

Next time, and there will be a next time, tell her it doesn't matter what she was just going to do. She shouldn't park over a dropped kerb and point at the free space, adding "Don't be so bloody lazy"

Something like

"I don't care what you are just doing or that you are leaving now. I have been waiting, yet again, for you to come back and move your car from across my drive. Don't be so bloody lazy"

Yea, maybe I made the mistake of being too polite....but i figure id try being polite first......

Our neighbours are in their 80s and a care worker for someone else usualy parks over their drive. One morning they both came out with a roll of removals cling film and wrapped it round her car, they put little notes in every now and then, reminding her that they had asked her politely not to block them in.

When they had finished they sprayed the car with water, which apparently makes it nigh on impossible to find a loose end. She was there for about 3 hours. her employer was really not impressed, especialy as my neighbours had photographs of about 9 previous occasions, and their notes.

I learned one thing, don't piss off active older people. They know far too much about the joys of silly acts of revenge Smile

That covers it"

Complain to the School/Nursery as well, they do remind parents not to block drives. Take a note/photo of her car and numberplate blocking your drive.

I dont she is picking her up from school. Maybe tuition, or something extracurricular, or from the childs father.

It’s very poor on her part. I think the only thing you should perhaps have done differently is not let it go when it didn’t matter to you for that incident.

Jellybeans’ response is good.

I am howling at this!!! Your neighbours are my heroes!!
jellybeansforbreakfast · 07/06/2021 19:13

They bloody are! I've never been quite so impressed and scared at the same time - I usually park to one side of their drive!!

They are a lovely couple and just don't give a monkey's about being normal and polite, though they are naughty rather than nasty, iyswim - their daughter finds it all a bit embarrassing Grin

thereisonlyoneofme · 07/06/2021 19:38

Well I was literally 2" parked over someones driveway and the bloke went ballistic, swearing and cursing. Has form for this apparently.

Unicornflakegirl · 07/06/2021 19:40

Here in Spain if your car is blocked in you get in and hold the horn down until the guilty party arrives, then give them abuse in front of onlookers who have stopped to see the drama unfold.

If you see her there again I would have a word and watch to see what house she is going into and knock every time.

mamamalt · 07/06/2021 19:45

YANBU. My neighbours over hang my drive by about half a car, every..bloody..day.
It makes it difficult for me to get in and out which makes me really cross. I just would never do it to someone so can't understand how they think it's fine?!

Aprilwasverywet · 07/06/2021 19:47

Sit in your car with your hand in the horn until she returns...
If people come out they will see why. She will have the walk of shame to her car..

Theres a difference between 2 inches and 3 feet / blocking a car from leaving. Also where were you parked when this happened?

NiceTwin · 07/06/2021 19:56

When somebody blocked my car, I pulled my car forward, close enough to their driver's door that they had to knock on and ask me to move.
Sadly, they were a ripe old age and didn't give two fucks that my poor horse didn't get her breakfast until late that day.

dogsandfish · 07/06/2021 20:16

My neighbour and her parents do this to me. it drives me mad. especially as there is space outside their own drive so I just don't understand the need of why they do it? I've come to the conclusion they must have low self esteem and it makes them feel some sort of power. I wouldn't dream of purposely blocking someone in.

KindChick · 07/06/2021 20:29

I am raging on your behalf. Totally unacceptable. Can you put something there that prevents any parking at all.

They are amazing! 😂

I am stocking on cling film just in case!

stackemhigh · 07/06/2021 20:59

Park on your drive!

stackemhigh · 07/06/2021 21:00

Park on your dropped kerb I mean sorry.

notthemum · 07/06/2021 21:02

@jellybeans . That is fab. I loved it.
All power to the pensioners. 😅🤣😂

Extensive horn use goes a long way sometimes.
